About Happy Dragon

Happy Dragon is a Chinese restaurant located at 1671 I-35 Ste 311 in New Braunfels, Texas, primarily catering to takeout orders. According to one review, if you're looking for Chinese takeout, their sweet and sour chicken is described as a crispy delight with a tangy sauce, and the cashew chicken is noted for its flavor and texture contrast with tender chicken and crunchy cashews. This reviewer mentioned that the dishes are made fresh, flavorful, and ready for takeout, making it a convenient option for meals on the go.

However, another recent customer had an overwhelmingly negative experience. While they praised a young male staff member at the register for being exceptionally sweet and polite, their feedback on the food was extremely critical. They described the food as "absolutely horrible and disgusting," "dried and old," and "not fresh NOT AUTHENTIC." Specific dishes mentioned negatively include the wontons, which were described as cold and likely frozen, and both the orange chicken and sesame chicken, which were so dried out that only fried crumbles covered in sauce remained with very little actual chicken. The beef and broccoli were said to have the taste and consistency of rubber, and the lemongrass chicken reportedly consisted mainly of chopped onion with sparse pieces of chicken. This reviewer considered it one of the worst meals they had ever had and the worst restaurant in New Braunfels, strongly advising others not to waste their money.

In summary, Happy Dragon seems to offer convenient takeout service, and some dishes like the sweet and sour chicken and cashew chicken have been positively reviewed for freshness and flavor. However, there are also significant concerns raised by another customer regarding the poor quality, freshness, and authenticity of several other dishes. The only consistently positive aspect mentioned across both reviews is the friendliness of at least one staff member. Potential customers should weigh these contrasting opinions when considering Happy Dragon for their Chinese takeout needs.

If you're on the hunt for takeout that hits all the right notes, look no further than Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant. Their sweet and sour chicken is a crispy delight, perfectly fried to achieve that satisfying crunch with every bite, while the tangy sauce adds just the right amount of zing. And let’s not forget the cashew chicken—it's bursting with flavor, featuring tender chicken pieces and crunchy cashews that create a delightful texture contrast. Every dish is made fresh, flavorful, and ready to take home, making it a great place to get some great meals to go.

The only positive thing I can say about this place is that the red headed young man who worked the register was one of the sweetest guys I’ve ever met. Other than that the food was absolutely horrible and disgusting. Dried and old. Not fresh NOT AUTHENTIC. Garlic chicken was the only thing that was barely mediocre but even that did not taste right or authentic. Calling this place “Chinese” is some sort of twisted joke. The wontons were cold and definitely come frozen from a box. Even Panda Express is better and we all know Panda Express is not real Chinese. I am extremely disappointed and annoyed. They tried to replace the orange chicken and sesame chicken that was so dried and old that all we had on the plate was the fried crumbles covered in sauce there was 3 pieces of chicken that was actually chicken. The beef and broccoli tasted and had the consistency of rubber. The lemon grass chicken had an entire onion chopped up with thin small pieces of chicken. This was one of the worst meals I’ve had in my 26 years of living. Worst restaurant in New Braunfels. Do not waste your money this is not good at all. The only thing I will say is that the young man was so polite, sweet and kind he was the only good thing that came out of this experience I hope he makes it far. But this place has 0 stars from me.

We drive 15 miles one way past other Chinese restaurants just to come here. Better than any of our local options. The food and the service are great, the staff is friendly and welcoming, eager to make recommendations or answer questions. They have cable service, but the seating area is smaller and somewhat utilitarian, I think it's mostly a takeout place, but we always eat there. If I could give the food more than five stars I would, it's the best Chinese food I've seen in the area.

First time eating here in a while. Portion size got smaller while prices went up. The food itself tastes fine. Got the smallest egg roll I've ever been served. Staff also refused to sub lo mein noodles for fried rice on my dinner order despite their menu explicitly saying "All menu items may be customized to your specification."
