Accessible via phone at (503) 256-3828 or mobile at +1 503-256-3828, Happy Dragon has been serving the Portland area since relocating to 82nd Avenue in 2018, having previously operated in Independence since 2013. This family-run establishment prides itself on its culinary offerings and a strong commitment to guest experience.

The environment at Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant is consistently described as a "classic Chinese restaurant" with a bright and inviting ambiance. Patrons highlight the "brightly lit" interior and "beautiful brocade covers on all of the chairs," which contribute to a traditional and somewhat formal yet comfortable dining atmosphere. The restaurant also features a "banquet hall with Lazy Susans," making it an ideal venue for larger gatherings, celebrations, and family dinners. This setting allows for a communal dining experience, typical of authentic Chinese traditions. The fact that it is a family-run establishment often translates into a warm and attentive atmosphere, where the owners "care a lot about their guests experience." This dedication to hospitality enhances the overall dining environment, creating a sense of welcome and personal attention that might not be found in larger, more impersonal establishments. The focus is clearly on providing a pleasant and authentic culinary journey for diners.

The services at Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant are centered on delivering high-quality food with attentive and personalized care. As a family-run establishment, there's an inherent dedication to ensuring guests have a positive experience, with "food and service" being the "main focus." The wait staff is attentive, and orders are generally served efficiently, indicating a well-managed front-of-house operation. The restaurant provides a comprehensive menu of Cantonese and Szechuan-style dishes, catering to various tastes. A notable service feature is the staff's ability to guide customers through the menu, especially regarding the daily specials. For instance, customers are advised to "use translate apps to read the special board" if they don't read Chinese, implying that the specials are often written in Chinese, appealing to a more authentic audience but also demonstrating the restaurant's willingness to assist all patrons. Beyond dine-in, Happy Dragon also offers take-out services, providing convenience for those who prefer to enjoy their meals at home. Their extensive menu, including appetizers, soups, various meat and seafood dishes, noodles, and rice, showcases a full-service approach to Chinese dining.

Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant boasts several key features that contribute to its positive reputation. A paramount feature is the quality and authenticity of its cuisine. Customers consistently praise the food for being "very well prepared" and "tasted great." A standout dish, frequently highlighted, is the "Great Peking duck." This dish is served in "2 courses: the crispy skin w/ steamed buns then duck stir fry w/ lettuce wraps," indicating a traditional and elaborate preparation that impresses diners. This multi-course presentation elevates the Peking duck beyond a mere entree, making it a culinary experience in itself. Other dishes like the "Chinese broccoli and pork lo mein" are described as "well made sides," further emphasizing the kitchen's capability across its menu. The restaurant offers a wide variety of items, including Pepper Steak, Chicken & Broccoli, Fried Dumplings, Sesame Shrimp, Lemon Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, and various noodle dishes like Lo Mein and Chow Fun. The presence of specialty items such as "Jelly Fish," "Roasted Squab," "Chicken Feet," and "Live Crab & Lobster" on the menu caters to a more adventurous palate and those seeking a truly authentic Chinese dining experience. The availability of a "crab special" also suggests seasonal or unique offerings that keep the menu dynamic and interesting. The restaurant's commitment to delivering fresh ingredients and robust flavors is evident in the positive feedback on the taste and preparation of multiple dishes, from appetizers to main courses. Furthermore, the family-run nature instills a sense of care and personal touch in the food preparation and service, making it a distinguishing feature in itself.

From a promotional perspective, Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant primarily benefits from strong positive word-of-mouth generated by satisfied customers. The enthusiastic reviews, such as "Everything was very well prepared, everything tasted great" and "I will definitely be back soon," serve as powerful organic endorsements. The specific commendation for their "Great Peking duck" acts as a major draw, attracting customers specifically seeking this specialty dish. The mention of it being a "family run restaurant" that "care a lot about their guests experience" is an inherent promotional message that resonates with customers looking for a more personal and welcoming dining experience. While no explicit discount promotions or loyalty programs are detailed in the provided reviews, the focus on "food and service is the main focus here" implies that the quality of the dining experience itself is the primary promotional tool. The restaurant's long history since 2013 (and 2018 at its current location) also contributes to its established reputation within the community. The presence of a "special board" with unique Chinese dishes, even if requiring a translation app, subtly promotes a sense of authenticity and discovery for adventurous diners. The banquet hall with Lazy Susans is a clear promotional feature for group events and celebrations, positioning Happy Dragon as a suitable venue for larger gatherings. The comprehensive menu, available for online ordering through various platforms like Fantuan, Caviar, and DoorDash, extends its promotional reach to a wider audience seeking convenient delivery or pickup options. Ultimately, Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant's most compelling promotional aspect is its consistent delivery of flavorful, well-prepared Chinese cuisine, particularly its acclaimed Peking duck, combined with the warm and attentive service characteristic of a dedicated family-run establishment.

I was here for a friend's birthday, I got to taste at least eight dishes. Everything was very well prepared, everything tasted great. This is a family run restaurant, and they care a lot about their guests experience. The atmosphere is a classic Chinese restaurant, brightly lit with beautiful brocade covers on all of the chairs. The food and service is the main focus here, and I will definitely be back soon.

Great Peking duck. It comes with 2 courses: the crispy skin w/ steamed buns then duck stir fry w/ lettuce wraps. Both are fantastic. The Chinese broccoli and pork lo mein were both well made sides. We want to go back and try the crab special. P.s. If you don't read Chinese, use translate apps to read the special board.

Good place to stop by for Chinese food, ordered the duck and was a tasty and tender, chicken feet was good, while calamari had too much flour. Overall if you’re looking for Chinese food, good place to try.

Food, excellent, Service excellent, atmosphere austere - but that's okay. We randomly chose to eat at Happy Dragon Chinese Restaurant. This is a truly asian restaurant - the waiter wrote out the order in Chinese. The specials on the board were in Chinese. I Google Translated the specials. Not my cup of tea, but they were indeed delicacies I am sure. The menu was very large, but we stuck to the tried and true American Chinese dishes. The Pot Stickers were fresh and homemade. I think the noodle dish is Cashew Nut Chicken. The one with walnuts is Honey Walnut Shrimp. DELICIOUS! The walnuts were whole, large, fresh and crunchy. The dish tasted clean and fresh. I highly recommend it. The place is unassuming on 82nd, but I would recommend it to any true asian fan.

Happy Dragon provided us with a nice, old-school dining experience that took me back to my childhood. A friend had discovered this place on a lunch hour exploration, and suggested it for a family style dinner destination. Each of the four of us chose an entree, (Mandarin Beef, Sautéed Green Beans, Kung Pao Chicken, and a black fungus, snow pea and yam veggie plate) and we piled on the unsurprising extras of an appetizer combo, a huge shared bowl of hot and sour soup, and rice. Service was super-quick - my friend had arrived first, and put in the order for the appetizer combo before we arrived. By the time we were putting in the order for everything else, the appetizers were arriving, and everything else began showing up before we finished the appetizers.
