About Happy China

Happy China, located at 12921 Olive Blvd in St. Louis, Missouri, falls under the Chinese Restaurant category, specifically offering a Chinese buffet experience to its patrons. This format allows diners to sample a wide array of dishes, making it a potentially appealing option for those who enjoy variety or are dining with a group with diverse preferences. Based on the available customer reviews, Happy China offers a broad selection of food options, extending beyond traditional Chinese cuisine to include items like sushi and even steak.

One reviewer shared their experience visiting Happy China close to 7 pm. They noted that the food was generally "pretty good," but suspected that arriving later in the evening might have meant some dishes were not as freshly prepared as they could have been. Despite this, they acknowledged the potential of the food, stating that the flavors were "on point." This suggests that Happy China has the capacity to produce tasty dishes, but the timing of one's visit might impact the perceived freshness of certain items on the buffet. The reviewer also specifically mentioned the service, describing the staff as friendly and accommodating, which contributes positively to the overall dining experience.

A notable feature highlighted in this review is the separate pricing for seafood. Specifically, one cluster of seafood, served with a choice of corn or white rice, was priced at $15.99. This indicates that while the buffet offers a wide range of options under a single price, certain premium items like seafood may incur an additional charge. This is an important piece of information for potential customers, especially those interested in including seafood in their meal.

The same reviewer expressed their intention to return to Happy China at an earlier time, suggesting that they believe the freshness of the food would be improved during peak hours. This indicates a generally positive underlying impression of the restaurant's culinary offerings, with the caveat related to the timing of their visit.

Another customer who visited Happy China for lunch also provided a positive review, emphasizing the good variety of food available. They specifically mentioned the inclusion of sushi alongside hot dishes such as steak and chicken, showcasing the diverse culinary offerings beyond standard Chinese fare. The presence of a dessert and fruit selection further adds to the appeal of the buffet, catering to different parts of a meal. This reviewer highlighted the "all you can eat" nature of the buffet, encouraging diners to explore the options and find dishes they enjoy and to "fill up." This reinforces the core concept of a buffet, where customers can sample and eat as much as they like for a set price (with the exception of separately priced items like the aforementioned seafood).

Considering these reviews, the environment of Happy China is not explicitly detailed, but the mention of a buffet setup implies a spacious area designed to accommodate numerous food stations offering a wide variety of dishes. Buffets typically aim for functionality and ease of access to the food, often with a bustling atmosphere due to the self-service nature and the number of diners. The positive service mentioned by one reviewer suggests that despite the buffet format, staff are attentive to customer needs.

The key feature of Happy China is undoubtedly its "all you can eat" buffet format, offering a diverse selection that includes not only Chinese dishes but also sushi and American-style options like steak and chicken. The inclusion of a dessert and fruit bar further enhances the variety. The separate pricing for seafood is another notable feature that potential customers should be aware of. The positive feedback regarding the flavor of the dishes suggests that the quality of the food, when fresh, is a strong point.

Currently, no specific promotional information is mentioned in the provided reviews. As a buffet restaurant, Happy China's primary appeal is often the value proposition of being able to sample a wide range of foods for a set price. It would be beneficial for local users to check with the restaurant directly for any ongoing promotions, such as discounts for seniors, children, or special weekday or weekend rates.

In conclusion, Happy China in St. Louis, MO, offers a Chinese buffet experience with a broad selection of dishes, including sushi, hot entrees, and a dessert and fruit bar. The food is generally considered good, with flavorful dishes, although freshness might vary depending on the time of the visit. The service is reported to be friendly and accommodating. A key feature is the "all you can eat" format, with the exception of certain items like seafood, which are priced separately. For local users seeking a restaurant with a wide variety of options and an "all you can eat" experience, Happy China presents a viable choice. It may be advisable to visit during peak dining hours to ensure the freshest selection. Checking directly with the restaurant for any current promotions could also enhance the value of the dining experience.

I haven’t been to a Chinese buffet in a very long time. It was close to 7pm when we arrived. Food was pretty good, however; I think we went at the wrong time. I could tell some of the food wasn’t straight out the kitchen fresh BUT the potential was there. The flavors were on point. No complaints on the service, they were friendly and accommodating. Seafood was a separate price. One cluster came with corn or white rice for $15.99. I will definitely try this place again, at an earlier time.

The food was good. We met a friend here for lunch. There was a good variety of food from sushi 🍣 to hot dishes like steak and chicken they also have dessert and fruit to choose from. We tried a little of everything. It's all you can eat so find something you like a fill up.

Worse Chinese food I’ve ever had. The egg drop soup was orange and tasted like dirty sink water. The egg roll tasted like it was made a week ago and fried in old oil. The crispy beef was anything but crispy as it was floating in peppery sauce. They need to find a new chief. Giving it 1 star is being more than nice. Buyer beware.

Nothing wrong with the service. The atmosphere is very dark; the lighting is terrible. Food is mis-labeled; doesn't match what is in the container. Crumbs from other customers in seats or inside of the edge of booths. Bathrooms are dark, old, haven't been thoroughly cleaned in who knows when. We won't go back.

Visited this restaurant for lunch around 1:40pm on a Tuesday. The food was OK, nothing spectacular. There wasn't a large selection of dishes like most Chinese buffets I've been to. They had a small selection of sushi that everyone seemed to like as the restaurant staff could hardly keep sushi on the trays. Their cooks were on top of it though. As soon as a dish was emptied, they quickly brought out more. The waitress was nice and constantly walking around picking up empty plates and refilling drinks. Suprisingly, the chocolate and raspberry ice cream cups they had were really good. For two adult buffets and 2 ice waters, our total was $26.02. Even though the price wasn't bad and food wasn't terrible, I would not go out of my way to visit this establishment again.
