About Happy Buddha

Welcome to Happy Buddha, a Chinese restaurant located at 4985 St Leonard Rd in St Leonard, Maryland. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Happy Buddha offers a variety of Chinese dishes for the community. Based on recent customer feedback, experiences appear to be somewhat varied, with some dishes receiving high praise while other aspects of the experience have been met with more moderate reactions.

One particular dish at Happy Buddha that has garnered significant positive attention is their Pan Fry Noodles. According to one enthusiastic reviewer, Happy Buddha prepares this dish "correctly," emphasizing the importance of using fresh, thin egg noodles as a base and then topping them with either meat or vegetables. This suggests that Happy Buddha pays close attention to the traditional preparation of this noodle dish, which can be a significant draw for those who appreciate authentic flavors and techniques in their Chinese cuisine. The positive mention specifically highlights the quality of the noodles and the overall execution of the dish.

However, not all initial experiences at Happy Buddha have been overwhelmingly positive. One customer's first visit was described as "just ok," resulting in a 3-star rating. This indicates that while the experience was not negative, it also did not particularly impress this diner. It's important to note that first impressions can be influenced by various factors, and subsequent experiences might differ.

Another reviewer detailed some challenges encountered during the ordering process. Communication seemed to be "difficult," leading to a moment where the customer considered canceling the order altogether due to concerns that it would not be prepared as requested. This suggests that there might be occasional communication barriers, potentially due to language differences or order-taking procedures. Despite the initial apprehension, the order was ultimately completed, and to the customer's surprise, it was "correct ... mostly." This indicates that while there might be hurdles in the ordering process, the kitchen generally manages to fulfill the requests accurately.

The same reviewer also commented on specific dishes ordered. The Crab Rangoon was described as a "cheese puff," which was not exactly what the customer was expecting. However, they were not displeased with it and indicated they would order it again. This suggests that Happy Buddha's version of Crab Rangoon might differ from the traditional recipe, perhaps focusing more on a crispy, cheesy puff rather than a filling with a significant crab component. Despite the variation, it was still deemed enjoyable.

The reviewer also ordered beef with lo mein, requesting the addition of broccoli and mushrooms and noting that an upcharge was applied for these additions. While the portion size of the overall dish was considered "generous," the customer felt that more broccoli and mushrooms should have been included, especially considering the extra cost. This feedback points to a potential area for improvement in terms of the quantity of added ingredients relative to the upcharge. The total cost of this meal for the visiting international customer was equivalent to $27 US dollars, and while the food was "decent," the reviewer expressed uncertainty about whether it was worth that price point.

Overall, the customer reviews for Happy Buddha present a mixed picture. On one hand, the Pan Fry Noodles are highly recommended, indicating a strength in preparing at least one classic Chinese dish exceptionally well. On the other hand, there are mentions of initial ordering difficulties, a non-traditional preparation of Crab Rangoon, and concerns about the value for money regarding customized dishes. The atmosphere and other aspects of the dine-in or takeout experience are not extensively detailed in these reviews.

Given the available information, Happy Buddha in St Leonard, MD, appears to be a Chinese restaurant that has the potential to deliver satisfying dishes, particularly their Pan Fry Noodles. However, customers might want to be prepared for potential communication nuances when ordering and should perhaps inquire about the specific preparation of certain dishes like the Crab Rangoon. For those considering adding extra ingredients to their meals, it might be prudent to clarify the portion sizes of these additions. As there is no information provided about current promotions or the restaurant's ambiance, local users might benefit from trying a few key dishes to form their own opinion. Of all the Chinese restaurants evaluation, one dish I always order is the Pan Fry Noodles. You have to use fresh, thin egg Noodles as a start, then top with meat or vegetables. This restaurant does it correctly !!

My first experience here was just ok - hence the 3 stars. Ordering was a bit of a process and communication seemed difficult. I had someone else order for me over the phone and listening to the exchange back and forth made me say just cancel it - it's not going to be what I'm asking for. Reluctantly, I went through with the order and to my surprise, it was correct ... mostly. The Crab Rangoon I asked for was a "cheese puff" so not exactly what I was looking for but honestly, I wasn't mad about it and I'd order it again. I also asked for beef with lo mein adding broccoli and mushrooms. The portion seemed generous but I felt more broccoli and mushrooms should have been added with consideration that I did pay an uncharge. This meal cost me $44 Australian dollars since I'm visiting from out of the country. While it was decent, I'm not sure $27 US dollars was worth it.

Ordered orange chicken combo and general chicken combo. Restaurant wasn’t busy so food was made quickly and to order. Food came hot and fresh and was delicious. Orange chicken had real orange peel in the sauce, general chicken had real peppers in sauce. Lo mein was flavorful and fresh with plenty of good veggies. Spring roll had fresh veggies inside as well. Good drink selection with lots of variety. Delicious food, friendly and fast service. We aren’t from this area but will definitely go out of our way to come again. :)

Got the beef chow fun, fried rice and orange chicken. My favorite was the chow fun. Everything was exquisitely delicious. The service was great. We'll definitely be ordering more in the future. Best Chinese we've had in Calvert county so far.

Probably the best Chinese food we found since moving to the southern MD area. My picky kids loved their choices. Chicken friend rice, garlic broccoli, wonton soup, and my meal and sweet n sour chicken.
