Customer reviews for Happy Buddha Cafe present significant concerns regarding the quality and safety of the food served. One reviewer expressed extreme dissatisfaction, stating, "You couldn’t pay me to go here again." They specifically criticized the lack of flavor in the Lo Mein and fried rice, describing them as having "absolutely zero flavor." Furthermore, they found the chicken to be excessively dry, so much so that it was difficult to swallow. This review strongly suggests a negative experience with the taste and texture of multiple dishes.

Adding to these concerns, another reviewer recounted a disturbing incident involving a potential foreign object found in their food. While eating Egg Foo Young, they felt something hard and upon spitting it out, discovered a "huge chunk of hardness" that resembled a "large paint chip," though its exact nature remained uncertain. This experience was understandably "extremely disturbing" for the reviewer, leading them to vow to "NEVER eat there again." Although they noted that "the service wasn’t bad," the potential food safety issue was deemed "unacceptable." The reviewer also expressed concern about potential health risks, mentioning the possibility of "lead poisoning" and their intention to consult a doctor. This review raises serious questions about food preparation and quality control at Happy Buddha Cafe.

Considering these two available reviews, local users in University Heights should be aware of the significant negative feedback regarding the food at Happy Buddha Cafe. The first review points to a lack of flavor in common dishes and issues with the texture of the chicken, suggesting potential problems with the culinary execution. The second review is even more alarming, detailing the discovery of a hard, unidentified object in the Egg Foo Young, raising serious food safety concerns.

While one reviewer briefly mentioned that "the service wasn’t bad," this positive aspect is overshadowed by the significant issues raised about the food itself. The presence of a potentially hazardous foreign object in a dish is a critical concern that should not be taken lightly. The lack of flavor in multiple dishes, as reported by another customer, also indicates a potential problem with the overall quality of the food being served.

For local users seeking a Chinese restaurant in University Heights, Happy Buddha Cafe presents a profile with considerable red flags. The negative comments are not minor criticisms but rather serious concerns about the taste, texture, and potentially the safety of the food. While the service might be adequate, the primary purpose of a restaurant is to provide enjoyable and safe food, and the available reviews suggest significant shortcomings in this area.

Given the nature of the negative feedback, particularly the report of a foreign object found in the food, potential customers should exercise extreme caution when considering Happy Buddha Cafe. The risk of encountering poorly prepared food lacking flavor or, more worryingly, food containing potentially harmful contaminants appears to be a significant factor based on these recent experiences.

In summary, the limited available reviews for Happy Buddha Cafe in University Heights paint a concerning picture. Customers have reported issues with the flavor and texture of the food, and, more alarmingly, the presence of a large, hard, unidentified object in a dish. While one reviewer found the service to be acceptable, the serious nature of the food-related complaints should be a primary consideration for local users. It would be prudent to thoroughly consider these negative experiences and perhaps seek more recent reviews or explore alternative Chinese restaurants in the area before making a decision to dine at or order from Happy Buddha Cafe.

You couldn’t pay me to go here again. Lo mein and fried rice had absolutely zero flavor. The chicken was so dry I could barely choke it down

I was taking bites of the egg foo young when I felt something hard. I spit it out and there was this huge chunk of hardness that looked like a large paint chip. However, I am not sure what it was. This was extremely disturbing and I will NEVER eat there again. It sucks because the service wasn’t bad but this is unacceptable. I don’t know if I’m at risk of lead poisoning or what but I will certainly follow up with my doctor now.

I will definitely eat here again. It was standard Chinese American food. The people were nice and service was great. I prefer to get carry out and wat at home, but there are tables if you want to stay.

Decent little take out spot! The crab rangoons had a good crab to cream cheese portion, and the shrimp pad thai had a lot of shrimp, and it was a big portion. Staff was very friendly and attentive
