About Han Dynasty - Old City

Han Dynasty - Old City, located at 110 Chestnut St, Philadelphia, PA 19106, USA, is a Chinese restaurant specializing in Sichuan cuisine. You can reach them at (215) 922-1888 or +1 215-922-1888.

This Old City location is considered the "mother ship" of the Han Dynasty restaurants, with other outposts including those in NYC. Customers familiar with other locations may find similarities and differences in the dishes and overall atmosphere. The restaurant is known for its flavorful and often spicy dishes.

A popular feature is their happy hour menu, which runs until 6:30 PM and offers discounted items. Customers have specifically enjoyed the fried chicken dumplings and spicy pork belly from the happy hour menu. The restaurant seems to attract a local crowd.

Popular dishes include the dan dan noodles (noted to be very spicy), shredded duck, and fresh pea greens, all of which have been described as delicious. However, it's worth noting that the spice level is a significant aspect of many dishes here.

For first-time diners, it is advisable to be aware of several aspects of the dining experience, including the spice levels, the family-style meal presentation, the generally non-customizable menu, and the availability of cold dishes. While some customers have praised the hosts and food runners, one review mentioned a negative experience with a waiter who did not provide adequate explanations for new customers.

Feedback on specific dishes is mixed. While some found the pork belly to be good (though served cold) and the garlic sauce chicken to be really good, the chicken dumplings were described as flavorless, and the dry pepper wings as having potential but being too salty. One customer also reported a forgotten soup order.

In summary, Han Dynasty - Old City offers a taste of authentic Sichuan cuisine with a focus on bold and often spicy flavors. The happy hour is a notable draw, but new customers should be prepared for the dining style and be proactive in seeking information about the menu and spice levels.

We are big fans of the NYC outposts of Han Dynasty so it was fun to visit the mother ship. Food was delicious as always, staff was young and fun, but dishes and vibe were different too. We loved the happy hour menu which goes to 6:30. It encouraged us to try fried chicken dumplings and spicy pork belly which were delicious. Seemed like a lot of locals in there having fun. Then we had the dan Dan noodles (spicy!!!), shredded duck and a plate of fresh peas greens, two favorites. All yummy!

Who can enjoy a very spicy and salty meal with a spicy and salty attitude? Anyone dining here for the first time needs to be prepped on many things: spice level, family style meals, not customizable menu, cold dishes etc… but unfortunately we got the worst waiter who put the expectation on new customers to know and understand everything without explanation. The hosts and bartender were very nice. The food runner was professional. The waiter was openly expressing a strong attitude. Chicken dumplings flavorless. Dan Dan Noodles, you either love em or hate em. Pork Belly, cold but really good. Dry Pepper Wings, have potential but too salty. Garlic Sauce Chicken, really good. I also ordered a soup but i guess it was forgotten.

Place is a little dark but food is super great. Portions are huge and staff is nice. Although my 2nd time here they took 45 min to serve. I Feel they actually forgot our orders because all other tables finished and we were still waiting.

Stopped by here for a late lunch with the family. It was close to our hotel (walking distance). We went during a time when it wasn't busy. We were welcomed by a staff member who seated us right away. Those who took our order and brought out the food were friendly and efficient. Overall, the food was good. The scallion pancakes were a little on the smaller size. The shrimp for the honey walnut dish was not what we had initially expected -- it was breaded, similar to that of Chinese chicken fingers -- but still good. The shrimp lo mein had an added taste which I was trying to identify. It reminded me of pork or some kind of meat -- but again, still good. The place was nice, spacious with high ceilings, and has a huge bar. It reminded me of a bar/lounge back in NYC, but it was a little dim. Overall, it was a decent place to get some Chinese food in the area. Also, I believe they will be moving locations soon.

Han dynasty is always a delight! It was so sad that the old spot is gone! But so glad their food taste has not changed! Our server was very friendly! For starters: The Szechuan fries and Dan noodles are the highlight😍! Definitely the best combo to start with! The fish hot sauce is a MUST!🤌🏼 P.S THEY ARE NOT BYOB ANYMORE😭😭😭
