Based on the limited customer reviews available, experiences at Hai Master Kitchen appear to be significantly polarized. One customer described their visit as possibly the "WORST restaurant I’ve ever been to." This reviewer expressed extreme dissatisfaction with the food, stating that everything tasted terrible and had the characteristics of being previously frozen and then microwaved, resulting in soggy, cold, and disgusting dishes that made them feel sick. They specifically mentioned that the crab Rangoon and lemon chicken caused one of their friends to feel like vomiting. Furthermore, this reviewer criticized the owner for not being receptive to feedback or inquiring about why they had barely eaten their meal. The only positive aspect mentioned was the tap water, highlighting the severity of their negative experience.
This starkly negative review contrasts sharply with another customer's experience, who found Hai Master Kitchen reminiscent of the neighborhood Chinese restaurants from their childhood. This reviewer praised the affordability of the food, noting that a combo plate costs only $10, which they considered "unheard of in OC" (Orange County). They also found the quality of the food to be surprisingly good, exceeding expectations given the price point. This suggests that Hai Master Kitchen aims to offer budget-friendly options without necessarily compromising on taste, at least according to this particular reviewer.
A significant highlight for the second reviewer was the customer service provided by Leo, who they identified as an owner and their server. They described Leo as friendly and noted his effort to make all customers in the restaurant feel welcome, a quality they found to be a "breath of fresh air" compared to the perceived lack of effort from most servers. This positive feedback suggests that Hai Master Kitchen, or at least its owner, places importance on creating a welcoming and personal customer service experience.
The second reviewer concluded by recommending Hai Master Kitchen as a takeout option, suggesting that it could become a new local favorite. This indicates that, for some customers, Hai Master Kitchen successfully provides a positive experience characterized by affordable and good-quality food, coupled with friendly service.
Considering these two highly contrasting reviews, it is difficult to ascertain a definitive overall picture of Hai Master Kitchen. One perspective paints a dire experience with extremely poor food quality and an unaccommodating owner, while the other describes an affordable restaurant with surprisingly good food and exceptional customer service. These discrepancies suggest a potential inconsistency in the restaurant's offerings or perhaps vastly different individual experiences and expectations.
Regarding the environment, neither review provides specific details about the ambiance or decor of Hai Master Kitchen. The mention of it reminding one reviewer of neighborhood Chinese restaurants from childhood might imply a casual and familiar setting, but this is speculative. The lack of information suggests that the environment might not be a primary focus or a particularly noteworthy aspect for these reviewers.
In terms of services, Hai Master Kitchen offers dine-in and likely takeout options, as one reviewer specifically recommended it for takeout. The service experience appears to be a key point of divergence in the reviews. One customer reported negative interaction with the owner, while the other praised the friendly and welcoming service provided by Leo. This suggests that the quality of service might be inconsistent or highly dependent on individual interactions.
Features of Hai Master Kitchen seem to include affordable pricing, particularly the $10 combo plate mentioned in one review. The food is described as Asian-inspired, but specific details about the menu and culinary style are limited. The positive mention of customer service by one reviewer could also be considered a key feature, suggesting a personal touch in the dining experience.
Currently, there is no promotional information available in the provided reviews. Local users would need to inquire directly with the restaurant for any special offers or discounts.
In conclusion, Hai Master Kitchen in Laguna Hills, CA, presents a complex picture based on the available customer feedback. While one reviewer experienced a severely negative meal with poor food quality and service, another found it to be an affordable option with surprisingly good food and exceptional customer service. This stark contrast suggests that potential local users should approach with caution and perhaps consider trying it for themselves to form their own opinion. The affordability and the potential for friendly service, particularly from the owner Leo, are positive aspects highlighted in one review, but the serious concerns raised in the other cannot be ignored. Without more information or a greater consensus in reviews, it is challenging to provide a definitive assessment of Hai Master Kitchen.

This is possibly the WORST restaurant I’ve ever been to. These 5 star reviews have to be a scam! Everything tastes terrible! It was obviously frozen and then microwaved. Everything was soggy, cold, disgusting. It made us feel sick. One of my friends felt like vomiting after eating the crab Rangoon and lemon chicken. The owner won’t let you get a word in, and didn’t ask why we barely ate anything or want to take it home. The best thing was the tap water. It is disgraceful to serve people food like this and expect them to pay for it.
Hai Master Kitchen reminds me of the neighborhood Chinese restaurants I went to as a kid. The food is very affordable (a combo plate is only $10 which is unheard of in OC). And the quality of food is good, much higher than you would expect at this price point. However, what made this restaurant stand out was the customer service. Leo was an owner and our server. He was friendly and made an effort to make everyone in the restaurant feel welcome. Most servers don't put in any effort. Leo clearly cared and that was a breath of fresh air. Next time you feel like ordering takeout, try Hai instead. It might just be your next favorite restaurant down the block.
The food was great, really fresh and the service was amazing. The guy working there was hilarious and the food came fast. Really positive vibes.
Update 2025* love how they upgraded the place and the menu. Food is still great and amazing. They always make sure their food is fresh and this will be the closest thing you get to being authentic. Everyone is really friendly and kind. So highly recommend 10/10 Where do I begin? My job is literally around the corner and decided to drop in for lunch. Why hasn’t this restaurant being talked about. The staff members are super kind and very friendly they are traditional. Let me start off by saying the restaurant is very clean. So hard to come by to a family owned restaurant where they are so friendly. The food is top notch the flavors of each dish is so freaking good. My partner was shocked cause he even said where did I find this hidden gem. The quality of the food is delicious tasty and my lord my stomach is watering thinking about their food. Their kung pao chicken good their mapo tofu is really yummy. They have Mongolian beef which is also super yummy. This is genuinely the best Chinese food I ever had. So hard to come by especially here in the oc. If you are ever in the area they do offer lunch specials and if you decided to eat in you should. Totally worth it. Not to mention many Chinese restaurants their food leaves you groggy when you come here your all happy and don’t have to worry about how heavy the food is it’s super light. Thanks for being so awesome go support your family local buisness
This place is 100/10, family owned business. The food was amazing, extremely flavorful and made with lots of spices and love. The ambience was inviting and comfortable. The employees were very attentive to us and would consistently check in on us while we waited for our food, they gave us egg tofu soup meanwhile we waited. Leo was extremely friendly and made lots of conversation with us and even spoke to us in Spanish! Made us feel extremely at home! Our new favorite place out here in the OC!
