Nestled in the heart of San Francisco at 901 Taraval Street, Guilin Rice Noodles House stands as a dedicated Chinese restaurant specializing in the distinctive flavors of Guilin cuisine. As a prominent establishment within the 'Chinese Restaurant' category, it offers a range of services and goods centered around providing an authentic taste of China to the local community. With a phone number of (415) 681-2988 and a mobile contact of +1 415-681-2988, Guilin Rice Noodles House is accessible to those craving a genuine Chinese culinary experience.
Based on feedback from patrons, the environment of Guilin Rice Noodles House appears to be one that can get quite busy, particularly during peak hours. One reviewer noted a significant waitlist on a Sunday afternoon, suggesting its popularity among locals. While specific details about the interior ambiance are not provided, the restaurant's focus seems to be on delivering its specialized cuisine efficiently, catering to both dine-in and takeout customers.
The primary service offered by Guilin Rice Noodles House is the preparation and sale of authentic Guilin-style rice noodles and a selection of other Chinese dishes. Customer reviews highlight the availability of takeout service, which is a convenient option for those preferring to enjoy their meals at home. However, it's worth noting that even for takeout orders, a wait time of 20-30 minutes was reported during a busy period. This indicates that the food is likely prepared fresh, contributing to its authenticity.
The standout feature of Guilin Rice Noodles House is undoubtedly its namesake dish: Guilin Rice Noodles. One enthusiastic reviewer explicitly mentioned it as their "go-to" for this particular style of noodle, indicating a level of specialization and expertise in its preparation. They further elaborated that the "dry version travels better" for takeout and commendably includes "a small side of soup." This suggests that the restaurant pays attention to the nuances of different preparations and how they hold up for off-site consumption. The same reviewer praised the flavor profile as "very flavorful" and the noodle texture as "just right," describing it as "a bit chewy and bouncy," which are desirable characteristics of authentic rice noodles.
Beyond their specialty, Guilin Rice Noodles House offers other dishes, though the reception appears to be more varied. The Hot and Sour Noodle Soup received a positive mention for its "generous portion" and "authentically hot and sour" flavor, suggesting that they do well with this classic Chinese soup. In contrast, the Cucumber Salad with Minced Garlic was described as "bland" with an unsatisfactory sauce, and the Marinated Combination Plate was noted to be "quite dry." These contrasting reviews indicate that while their specialty rice noodles and certain other dishes might be well-received, consistency across the entire menu could be an area for potential improvement.
It's important to consider the pricing aspect, as one reviewer commented that it is "a bit expensive for a simple dish but that's the price you pay for living in the bay area." This suggests that while the quality of certain dishes, particularly the Guilin Rice Noodles, might justify the cost for some, potential customers should be aware that the pricing reflects the general cost of living in San Francisco.
In summary, Guilin Rice Noodles House on Taraval Street in San Francisco offers a specific culinary focus on Guilin-style rice noodles, which appear to be a popular and well-regarded item among its clientele. The restaurant provides both dine-in and takeout services, though it can get busy, leading to potential wait times. As with any dining experience, personal preferences play a crucial role, but for those specifically seeking the taste of Guilin in San Francisco, this restaurant provides a focused culinary destination.
Potential promotional information is not explicitly available in the provided reviews. However, based on the consistent positive feedback regarding their Guilin Rice Noodles, a potential promotion could focus on this signature dish, perhaps offering a special combination deal or highlighting its unique preparation methods. Customer Reviews
The parking around the area is limited. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, and the waitlist was incredibly long. We ended up ordering takeout, but still had to wait 20-30 minutes. We ordered the Cucumber Salad with Minced Garlic, House Special GRN, Hot and Sour Noodle Soup, and Marinated Combination Plate. Unfortunately, the cucumber salad was bland, and the sauce was not good either. Similarly, the combination plate was quite dry. On a positive note, the Hot and Sour Noodle Soup had a generous portion, and the flavor was authentically hot and sour. I didn't try other items from the menu, but based on what I ordered, I would say the food was decent, though not outstanding.
This is our go-to for guilin style rice noodles. We get takeout here at least once a month. The dry version travels better and comes with a small side of soup. Everything is very flavorful and the noodle texture is just right it's a bit chewy and bouncy. It is a bit expensive for a simple dish but that's the price you pay for living in the bay area.
Had the pancake scallions and Guilin rice noodles with fermented bamboo shoots. The pancakes were hearty and thick and the rice noodles were very flavorful! The fermented beans and bamboo in particular were very flavorful and the pork rinds were not too heavy
Delicious noodles, efficient service, warm ambiance. Appreciate having two options for hot sauce. The braised pork belly was tasty and tender. The golden crispy pork was AMAZING.
chill no frills spot, ordered in my mother tongue, got a thick serving of rice noodles with dry sauce (could use more sauce imo). opens late-ish.
