I got 12 of their famous Zhong style dumplings ($15) and didn’t know it was a popular spot until I walked around Krog street. It had a tangy, sweet, and spicy flavor because of the sauce. I wished it had more green onion or garlic flavor, but otherwise it was pleasant to eat as a snack/appetizer. I only had an issue with the top dumplings being colder/lukewarm than the bottom ones. The service/pickup food area was chaotic though with a bunch of bags piling up and confusion with order names.
Oh man what a treat! We got to try THE Famous Dumplings at Gu’s in Krog Street Market. We got a dozen of the Pork Dumplings and they are served in a to go bowl with this sauce that’s like a mix of Soy and Chili spice that for us was the right about of heat and flavor! We can’t wait to come back and try more of their dishes like the Szechuan Chicken Po Boy
There are plenty of great places to eat in the Krog food court. HOWEVER, you’d be remiss if you didn’t get an order of Gu’s pork dumplings. Here’s the play: Get the full order (12 dumplings), as you will always finish and wish you had more. Eat from the bottom of the bowl to take full advantage of the sweet and savory sauce. Use a fork. Chopsticks = Cool Points but you gamble with ruining your outfit when the dumpling slips. Treat yourself!
Terrible value for very average Chinese-American food. We ordered the beef Dan Dan noodles, chicken dumplings, green beans, and chicken fried rice. The dumplings were more like greasy pancakes with barely any meat, and the dan dan noodles contained maybe a teaspoon of overcooked ground beef, the chicken fried rice was bland and bone dry, and the green beans were $16.50! For a pile of green beans with a dash of chili oil and soy sauce, they charged $16.50 - the same cost as the dumplings. They’re clearly taking advantage of inflation to jack up their prices, you’d get better value at your local take out spot.
Amazing! Noodles were so spicy and just the most amazing flavor. They should serve milk! The dumpling were very tasty. Probably one of the most spicy things I’ve ever eaten and I’m from south Louisiana 🤷♀️
