About Green Tea Restaurant 绿茶餐厅万锦

Green Tea Restaurant 绿茶餐厅 is a Chinese restaurant located in Markham, Ontario, specializing in unique dishes from Southern China, particularly the Hangzhou and Shanghai regions. The restaurant aims to provide a welcoming and elegant atmosphere for its diners, complemented by distinctive interior decoration and tableware.

According to customer reviews, the restaurant offers a selection of dishes that have been well-received. Notable mentions include the braised pork belly and abalone, praised for being very tender, tasty, and of a generous portion size, priced at $38.99. The smashed potato with sliced beef, costing $25.99, is described as tasty and potentially appealing to children. Another unique and recommended dish is the braised sliced eel, priced at $32.99, suggested for those who enjoy eel.

However, some aspects of the dining experience have received mixed feedback. One customer visiting for a Chinese New Year's Eve dinner found the signage to be inconspicuous, leading to confusion with a neighboring Japanese restaurant. This reviewer also felt that the Peking duck, priced at nearly $60, did not offer great value and found the roasted pork, supposedly a specialty, to be a bit dry. The stir-fried beef with chili peppers was also not what they expected in terms of the beef cut.

Another point to note is the reservation policy, where reservations were only accepted for groups of six or more, which may require smaller parties to arrive early. Additionally, one review mentioned that the service could be inconsistent.

Despite some mixed feedback, Green Tea Restaurant is presented as a good choice for those interested in exploring unique dishes from Southern China in an inviting setting.

On Chinese New Year’s Eve, our family of three decided to find a place to enjoy a reunion dinner. The restaurant only allowed reservations for six or up people, so with just the three of us, we had to go early. I arrived at 5 PM, and it wasn’t crowded yet. However, their sign was too inconspicuous. Our family, arriving in two batches, both mistakenly entered the Japanese restaurant next door. As soon as I walked in, they asked if I was there for the all-you-can-eat option. I was so confused! We ordered simple dishes. As for the Peking duck, I couldn’t tell the difference between that and the roast duck. For a dish that costs nearly $60, I didn’t think it was great value for money. I also ordered Stir-Fried Beef with Chili Peppers (杭椒牛柳) because a few days ago, my daughter made this dish, but the beef strips she cut didn’t seem quite right. So I decided to order an authentic version for everyone to compare. Well, turns out the beef here was cut even thicker than my daughter’s. I guess I misunderstood what this dish is supposed to be like. The roasted pork, supposedly their specialty, was also a bit dry. Overall, it was okay. When we left, it was snowing heavily outside.

We have been to green tea restaurant a couple of times, so far we are happy with the food that we ordered, especially the braised pork belly and abalone ( $38.99 very tender and tasty, big volume), smashed potato with sliced beef ( $25.99 tasty, kids would love) braised sliced eel ( $32.99 unique dish, recommended if you like eel) we love the interior decoration and tableware. The atmosphere is very welcoming and elegant. The service can be improved, not consistent. Overall, it is a good choice if you would like to try some unique dishes from Southern China, such as Hangzhou and Shanghai.

This restaurant’s name is quite well-known back in China, celebrated for its uniquely styled interior and a minimalist take on Sichuan cuisine. However, our visit to the Markham location got off to a confusing start—we couldn’t even find the entrance at first. After a few attempts and some backtracking along the corridor, we finally figured it out: the restaurant shares its space with another one, which explains the poorly marked and rather misleading signage. We ordered the Barbecue Quail, Sweet & Sour Pork, Braised Sliced Beef in Spicy Yellow Pepper Broth, and Fried Rice with BBQ Pork & Soy Sauce. Overall, the Sweet & Sour Pork was the standout—crispy, chewy, and cooked just right. But as for the rest, they fell disappointingly flat. Compared to other Sichuan or Chinese restaurants in Toronto with ratings above 4.5, these dishes were painfully mediocre. To make matters worse, the speed at which everything was served strongly suggested the use of pre-prepared dishes. Now, I have nothing against pre-prepared food—so long as it tastes good—but that simply wasn’t the case here. In the end, there’s no way I could give this place anything above a 4/5!

The food here is good. I got the combo for four that comes with a chicken soup, honey soy glazed ribs, pork, and pickled fish. We ordered another side of meatballs which were the best dish we had. Overall, the food is great. Service is a bit slow. It is recommended to make a reservation since it can be busy.

I recently dined at this fantastic restaurant and had an amazing experience. The dishes were not only visually appealing but also delicious. The creamy, fruit-filled salad was a perfect starter, balancing sweetness and tanginess. The main course dishes, including the stir-fried meat with peppers and the savory bamboo shoots and mushrooms dish, were bursting with flavor. The freshness of the ingredients and the skillful preparation made each bite a delight. Highly recommend for a wonderful dining experience! Five stars!
