About Green Olive Diner restaurant

Green Olive Diner restaurant is located at 443 S Broad St in Meriden, CT. While categorized as a Chinese Restaurant on the platform, customer reviews suggest it operates more like a traditional diner, serving breakfast and potentially other meals.

Recent feedback from customers presents a mixed view of the dining experience. One reviewer described their visit as mediocre, noting that the waitress was not enthusiastic and offered no recommendations. The food was reported to be lukewarm and unremarkable, and the bathroom was found to be dirty. Despite these negative aspects, the reviewer observed that the menu was a large pamphlet and speculated that the diner might be a local favorite.

Another significant concern raised by a customer relates to an unexpected charge during a breakfast order. This review details an $8.00 upcharge for four eggs, which was not mentioned on the menu. While the server informed the customer about a sourdough upcharge, the egg surcharge was only indicated by a small note pinned up at the front of the restaurant, which was easily overlooked until after receiving the bill. The total bill for two breakfast meals (two eggs, home fries, toast, and coffee each) came to $45.00. The customer, who also works in the restaurant industry, felt that this upcharge was excessive and should have been communicated more clearly to patrons, either with a larger sign or by the servers themselves.

Based on these reviews, potential customers might expect standard diner fare. However, it is advisable to inquire about any potential upcharges, especially for basic items like eggs, before ordering. The environment and service appear to be inconsistent, with at least one customer finding them lacking. Beware of the 8.00 charge on 4 eggs. My friend and I went for breakfast and both got 2 eggs with home fries and toast with coffees. Nothing in the menus had said eggs were a up charge. The server did let me know about the sourdough up charge. We got the bill it was it 45.00. We asked about the 8.00 up charge and the server said there was a sign at the front. We paid the bill. As I was walking out there was the smallest note pinned up about the egg up charge. I get it but 8.00 is a bit much. You should also make a bigger sign or better yet let your customers know that. I never leave reviews. I work at the restaurant and personally I’d let my people know. Not cool.

This place is beyond amazing the food was so heartwarming and delicious I was able to finally see my better half eat a Calzone for the first time in many years Celiac disease is not easy to deal with and let alone eating out is so scary for someone with celiac but this place has the most amazing Gluten Free menu I’ve seen so far in any restaurant. I believe our waitress was named Sue she was so informative. Thank you for the great food and service. You guys made life long customer of us. Excited to try the lasagna for dinner tonight.

I had an extremely disappointing experience today. After being seated, we were not approached by any staff members to offer coffee or drinks. We waited for approximately 15 minutes, only to observe an employee sitting down, using their cell phone. The most frustrating part occurred as we were leaving; my brother said “thank you”, and the server responded with "you're welcome," completely unaware that we had not received any service. I have visited this location previously without any issues, but this experience was unacceptable. It is clear that the new staff members require retraining or should consider other employment options.

Prime Rib was a good size and delicious served with a big baked potato and perfect broccoli. I would return for the prime rib special again! Stuffed shrimp had lots of seafood stuffing and tasty. No melted butter tho. French onion soup was ok..not hot enough but flavorful. It was much busier than I thought it would be so that was encouraging.
