About Green Island Restaurant

Welcome to Green Island Restaurant, a distinguished Chinese eatery nestled in the heart of San Francisco's vibrant Richmond District. Situated at 4012 Geary Blvd, near the intersection with 4th Avenue, Green Island Restaurant offers a diverse menu of authentic Chinese cuisine, promising a delightful culinary journey for local residents and visitors alike. As a prominent establishment in the Chinese Restaurant category, Green Island is dedicated to providing a wide array of dishes and services that cater to a variety of tastes and preferences.

Based on feedback from local patrons, Green Island Restaurant has garnered a reputation for its exceptional food quality. Many reviewers specifically highlight the excellence of their dishes, with the clay pot selections receiving particular praise. These flavorful and comforting clay pot creations are a must-try for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Chinese culinary tradition. The attentive and prompt service also stands out as a positive aspect of the dining experience at Green Island, ensuring that your needs are well taken care of throughout your meal.

The menu at Green Island Restaurant appears to offer a range of classic Chinese dishes. While specific details on the full menu are not provided, customer reviews offer glimpses into some of their offerings. The Winter Melon Soup, while considered decent, was suggested to benefit from a bit more seasoning to enhance its flavors. The Ginger Chicken, unfortunately, experienced a preparation error with the addition of gravy, which deviated from the customer's expectation. However, the quality of the chicken itself was noted to be satisfactory. In contrast, the Beef Chow Fun received high praise, with reviewers commending the tenderness of the beef and the overall deliciousness of the dish. The Fried Pork Spareribs were described as a satisfactory choice. Another dish that faced preparation issues was the Seafood Tofu Clay Pot, which was not prepared according to the order, resulting in a less than ideal taste experience. Lastly, the Pea Sprouts in ginger garlic were appreciated for their taste, although some found the sprouts to be slightly chewy.

While the food at Green Island Restaurant seems to be a major draw, some aspects of the overall dining experience have received mixed feedback. One recurring concern mentioned by a patron relates to the front door. The reviewer noted that the door frequently gets blown open by the wind due to potentially faulty hydraulic hinges. Additionally, some patrons reportedly disregard the "PULL/PUSH" signs, opening the door inward and exacerbating the issue of it being left ajar. This resulted in a less comfortable dining environment for those seated near the entrance, especially on windy days. The reviewer suggested that diners might want to consider visiting on calmer days or requesting a table further away from the front.

Another point of feedback concerns the customer service provided by the wait staff. One reviewer mentioned that while the owner of the restaurant is very nice, the wait staff could benefit from additional customer service training. This suggests that while the food and perhaps the management are commendable, there might be inconsistencies in the service provided by the broader team. Addressing this aspect could significantly enhance the overall customer satisfaction at Green Island Restaurant.

Despite these noted issues, the positive remarks regarding the food, particularly the clay pot dishes, strongly suggest that Green Island Restaurant offers a worthwhile culinary experience. The location on Geary Boulevard in the Richmond District makes it easily accessible for local residents. The food is EXCELLENT. Definitely come here for the food. Especially the clay pot dishes. Service was also attentive and prompt. However, our experience was knocked down several notches due to the front door that was constantly either being blown open by the wind (they need to fix the hydraulic hinges to keep the door closed properly) or by patrons who ignored the "PULL/PUSH" signs on either side of the door and kept opening the door inward which further aided the wind pushing the door open. If you eat here (which I highly suggest you do, as the food is delicious), I suggest you do so on a day that is not windy or sit at a table not near the entrance.

Located on Geary Blvd near 4th Avenue in the Richmond District San Francisco. The owner is very nice. Unfortunately the wait staff could use some customer service training. What we ordered: 1.) Winter Melon Soup not bad could use a bit more seasoning. 2.) Ginger Chicken. The waitress messed this up by putting a Gravy over the chicken which is not what we wanted. Tasted ok chicken was right… 3.) Beef Chow Fun this was very good beef was tender. 4.) Fried pork spareribs this was not bad. 5.) Seafood Tofu Clay Pot again this was not prepared the way it was ordered. So did not great tasting. 6.) Pea spouts in ginger garlic. The taste was good but the sprouts were chewy.

I take my 76 year old mother and 51 years old mentally disabled sister here. They enjoy the claypot rice here very much. A true hidden gem. If you are Toishan and looking for a good place to get delicious food, look no further. We ordered spareribs clay pot rice chicken and Chinese sausage clay pot rice and they served complimentary lotus root and peanut soup. My mom taught me her Claypot etiquette: as soon as the pot arrives, mix the rice and remember to scoop and mix everything from the bottom of the pot including mixing the crunchy rice with rest and last, serve into a bowl

DO NOT EVER EAT HERE! They have WORMS in their food! So GROSS! And they had the audacity to argue back and say they were only going to refund the noodle plate. NEVER COMING BACK HERE AGAIN!
