About Great Wall
Located in the vibrant neighborhood of Upper Manhattan at 800 West 181st Street, Great Wall stands as a Chinese restaurant that has garnered attention, particularly among locals, for its surprisingly good quality food offered at reasonable prices. Falling under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," Great Wall primarily caters to those seeking convenient and tasty takeout options, although the positive remarks about the food suggest it might be worth considering for a quick and satisfying meal regardless of dining preference.
Based on the available customer reviews, Great Wall presents itself as a "hidden gem." This description often implies that while the restaurant might not boast a fancy ambiance or perhaps the most polished service, it more than compensates with the quality of its food. One reviewer explicitly states, "Good quality food for good price," and emphasizes that while "the place might not look good or even service," the food is "damn good" and "perfect for takeout." This candid assessment sets realistic expectations for the environment and service while strongly highlighting the primary draw: the delicious and affordable Chinese cuisine.
Another reviewer echoes this sentiment, noting that the presence of "old pictures above" is often a positive indicator of an authentic and reliable Chinese restaurant. This customer's experience upon walking in was one of discovering a "GOOD restaurant that makes great food." They further commend the kindness and attentiveness of the staff, adding to the positive impression despite the earlier reviewer's comment about the service. The enticing aroma of the food also contributed to this reviewer's favorable initial experience, solidifying Great Wall's image as a potentially overlooked treasure.
The emphasis on takeout in one of the reviews suggests that Great Wall might be particularly well-suited for those looking to enjoy Chinese food in the comfort of their own homes. This aligns with the practical needs of many urban dwellers seeking a quick and easy meal solution without compromising on taste or quality. The affordable pricing further enhances its appeal as a go-to option for regular takeout.
The positive comments about the food quality, despite any perceived shortcomings in the restaurant's aesthetics or service, indicate that Great Wall prioritizes the taste and authenticity of its dishes. This focus on the culinary aspect is often what keeps local patrons returning, as evidenced by the reviewer who declares it their "go to place for takeout." Such loyalty speaks volumes about the consistent satisfaction they derive from the food.
For those interested in trying Great Wall, they can reach the restaurant by phone at (212) 795-9373 or via their mobile number, +1 212-795-9373. Hidden gem. Good quality food for good price. The place might not look good or even service but food is damn good. Perfect for takeout . This place is my go to place for takeout.
You know a Chinese restaurant is good when they have the old pictures above. I walked in and it was like I finally found a GOOD restaurant that makes great food. They’re so kind and tentive and the food smells GOOD. This is a rare gem thats hard to find!
The presentation was nice. The amount given for the price was pretty pathetic. They put a ton of sugar in their sauce. I guess that is what they use to give their food flavor. On the positive note the service was excellent. Personally would not go here again unless really had no choice. Then again, most Chinese food joints don't taste anywhere near as good as they used to back in the days
They have the best chicken in garlic sauce and chicken with broccoli in garlic sauce. There cheese wontons is the best. The homemade iced tea is the best in town.
I like their food. I also like that they are one of the few places in the area that will give you fortune cookies when you order takeout. I know it's silly, but fortune cookies are part of the fun of ordering Chinese.
