About Great Wall

Great Wall is a Chinese Restaurant located at 3708 Nameoki Rd, Granite City, IL 62040, USA, with phone numbers (618) 876-3333 and +1 618-876-3333. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Great Wall aims to provide Chinese cuisine to the residents and visitors of Granite City.

Based on the limited information available from online customer reviews, it appears that Great Wall operates as a buffet-style restaurant. One review mentions, "...you definitely get what you’d expect from a buffet like that," suggesting a self-service format where a variety of dishes are offered for a fixed price. Buffets typically feature a wide selection of appetizers, main courses, and sometimes desserts, allowing customers to sample different items and eat at their own pace.

The same review offers a subjective opinion on the food quality, stating it was "less than OK." This suggests that at least one customer found the food to be of a basic standard, aligning with typical expectations for a buffet where volume and variety are often prioritized. However, it's important to note that this is a single opinion and may not reflect the experience of all customers.

Another significant piece of feedback concerns an alleged incident involving a service animal. According to a review, staff at Great Wall reportedly told a customer's brother that his epilepsy service dog was not allowed in the restaurant. The reviewer indicated that they complied with the request but expressed their family's intention not to return, suggesting dissatisfaction with the handling of the situation. The reviewer also raised a concern about the legality of such a request under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which generally protects the rights of individuals with disabilities to be accompanied by their service animals in public accommodations.

A separate and concerning review details a negative experience with a to-go order. The customer reported that the rice they received smelled unpleasant, described as "rank" and like it might have been reused. Upon tasting it, they found it to be slimy, leading them to spit it out immediately. This reviewer expressed serious concerns about food safety and the potential for illness, urging for a health inspection of the premises. This feedback raises significant questions about the restaurant's food handling and storage practices.

Given the limited and negative nature of the available review information, it is challenging to provide a comprehensive overview of the environment, services, and features of Great Wall. However, we can infer some aspects based on the buffet format and the issues raised in the reviews.

The environment of a buffet restaurant is typically characterized by a large dining area with stations housing the various food selections. Seating is usually arranged to accommodate a high volume of customers. Without specific positive descriptions of the ambiance or décor, it is difficult to comment on the aesthetic or comfort of the dining space at Great Wall.

In terms of services, Great Wall likely offers self-service from the buffet line, along with table service for drinks and potentially for clearing plates. The incident with the service dog suggests interaction with staff regarding seating and restaurant policies. The availability of to-go orders is also indicated by one of the reviews.

Features commonly associated with Chinese buffet restaurants include a wide variety of dishes, affordability due to the all-you-can-eat format, and the convenience of quickly selecting and eating food. However, the reported issues with food quality and the handling of the service animal raise concerns that may outweigh these typical features for potential customers.

Currently, there is no promotional information available for Great Wall based on the provided data. It is unknown if they offer any discounts, special deals, or loyalty programs.

Based solely on the provided reviews, potential local users should be aware of the reported negative experiences. The allegation regarding the denial of access to a service animal is a serious concern, potentially indicating a lack of understanding or compliance with federal law. The report of spoiled and potentially unsafe food in a to-go order is even more critical, suggesting potential issues with food safety standards.

It is important to consider that these reviews represent individual experiences and may not be representative of all customer interactions with Great Wall. However, the nature of the issues raised, particularly concerning food safety and accessibility, warrants caution. Local users may want to consider these points when deciding whether to patronize this establishment.

Without further information or positive feedback to balance these negative reports, it is difficult to recommend Great Wall based on the currently available data. Potential customers may want to seek more recent reviews or information from other sources before making a decision.

In summary, Great Wall in Granite City appears to be a Chinese buffet restaurant. Available customer feedback raises significant concerns regarding food quality, food safety, and adherence to accessibility laws. Without additional positive information or a response from the restaurant addressing these issues, local users should approach with caution.

Staff told my brother that he could not have his epilepsy service dog around in the restaurant. We didn’t make a fuss or argue, we just got our food and left quickly but our family will definitely not be returning. Pretty sure their requests were illegal according to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Food was less than OK, you definitely get what you’d expect from a buffet like that.

HEALTH INSPECTOR ASAP !!! I went to pick up an order to go , the rice didn’t smell right but I didn’t think much of it, got home and it smelled rank, like if it was reused from yesterday, took a bite and it was slimy and immediately spit it out almost gagging. Someone can and will get seriously ill!!!

The Buffett is standard fair of the American twist on Chinese food. They selection was not super huge however the criteria I go off of on the food are usually 1.) Crab Rangoon 2.) Lo Mein Noodles and 3.) Eggrolls. All three were done really really well, the rest of the food was on the same level as well. Service is what it is it is a buffet so nothing spectacular and usually do not expect it at these types of places. Price, wasn’t to bad. I have paid more for less quality elsewhere. If you enjoy Chines Buffet give it a try.

Great place to have a basic Chinese lunch or dinner. Reasonable prices for a buffet.
