About Great Wall
Great Wall Chinese Restaurant is located at 176 Flowing Springs Rd in Charles Town, West Virginia, serving the local community in the 25414 area. They can be contacted at (304) 728-0898 or their mobile number, +1 304-728-0898. Based on recent customer feedback available online, it is important for potential patrons to be aware of some significant concerns and inconsistencies that have been reported regarding this establishment.
One reviewer provided a dish-by-dish breakdown of their order, offering a mixed assessment of the food quality. They specifically recommended the chicken wings, but only when ordered by themselves, not as part of a lunch order. According to this customer, the lunch order of chicken wings comes with pork fried rice that is described as "cold, dry, and lacking in flavor." This suggests a potential issue with the preparation or quality control of their pork fried rice, particularly when served with lunch specials.
On a more positive note, this reviewer found the wonton soup to be "decent" and the egg rolls to be "pretty good." The fried scallops were also rated as "good." However, they advised against ordering the beef and broccoli, not because the beef itself was poor, but because it is served with the same problematic pork fried rice. They described the beef as "okay" but did not find the broccoli to be a highlight. Furthermore, they cautioned against ordering the wonton appetizer, stating that it consisted of "bland, hard overcooked wontons." Overall, this customer concluded that ordering from Great Wall is "definitely a hit or miss" and, based on their experience, not worth the money.
Another customer, who had been a patron of Great Wall for many years, reported a significant decline in food quality during a recent order. They described the food as "ill prepared," noting that the vegetables were cut into "huge chunks," making them difficult to eat. The Hot and Sour soup was deemed inedible due to being excessively spicy with red pepper. The rice was described as "so dry hard to eat," echoing the previous reviewer's concerns about the rice. The ribs were criticized for having "no meat on them and very little sauce." While the pepper steak was considered "eatable," it also suffered from the same issue of vegetables being cut too large, requiring the customer to cut them further before eating. This reviewer expressed disappointment and concluded that they would not order from Great Wall again, speculating that the restaurant may have changed ownership and lamenting the decline from what was once a "great restaurant."
The feedback from these recent reviews paints a concerning picture of inconsistency and a potential decline in the quality of food at Great Wall Chinese Restaurant. While some items, like the chicken wings (when ordered separately), egg rolls, and fried scallops, received positive or neutral feedback from one reviewer, significant issues were raised regarding the pork fried rice, wonton appetizer, Hot and Sour soup, ribs, and the preparation of vegetables in general. The stark contrast between a long-time customer's past positive experiences and their recent negative one further suggests a potential change in the restaurant's standards or management.
Based on the information available, it is difficult to provide a positive introduction to Great Wall Chinese Restaurant for local users. The reviews highlight significant concerns about food quality, preparation, and consistency. Potential customers should be aware of the reported issues with specific dishes, such as the cold and dry pork fried rice, bland and overcooked wonton appetizer, excessively spicy Hot and Sour soup, and poorly prepared vegetables. The inconsistency in food quality makes it challenging to recommend specific menu items with confidence, with the exception of perhaps the chicken wings when ordered outside of a lunch special.
Given the negative feedback regarding food quality and preparation, there is no basis to discuss positive aspects such as the environment, features, or promotional information for Great Wall Chinese Restaurant based on these reviews. The focus remains on the reported issues that are critical to the dining experience. Potential customers may want to exercise caution and consider these recent experiences when making decisions about where to order Chinese food in Charles Town, WV.
In conclusion, the recent online reviews for Great Wall Chinese Restaurant in Charles Town, WV, raise significant concerns about the consistency and quality of their food. Reports of poorly prepared rice, overcooked appetizers, inedible soup, and poorly handled vegetables suggest that potential customers should approach this establishment with caution. The mixed feedback on specific items and the disappointment expressed by a long-time patron indicate a potential decline in standards. Local users are advised to consider these recent experiences when choosing a Chinese restaurant in the area.

If you order food here, I would get: chicken wings NOT as a lunch order, but by themselves. The lunch order of chicken wings comes with pork fried rice that is cold, dry, and lacking in flavor. The wonton soup tasted decent. The egg rolls are pretty good. Fried scallops were good. I would not get the beef and broccoli because it comes with the same pork fried rice. The beef itself okay, but I wouldn't say high points for the broccoli. Also if you order the wonton appetizer, expect bland, hard overcooked wontons. Definitely a hit or miss for ordering. Not worth the money to me.
Have been getting food from here for years ,yesterday’s food was ill prepared, the vegetables were cut up in huge chunks, the Hot and Sour soup was so hot with red pepper was not fit to eat ,rice was so dry hard to eat. The ribs had no meat on them and very little sauce, the Pepper steak was eatable but again the vegetables were cut so large you had to cut them up before putting in your mouth same with the onions at one point the onion piece was a quarter of a small onion. Sad to say will not order from here again! I guess it has changed hands. So sad was a great restaurant at one time .
Had the tofu with mixed vegetables dish lunch special which comes with fried rice and soup. The wonton soup was very nice! Dine in available.
General tsos chicken taste WAY too ketchupy very disappointed no soy or ginger flavor really. Only 4 pieces of broccoli came with it too so I can at least freshen my palate. Fed the rest to cats in the neighborhood
This is my first time ordering here. I placed an order inside. The employees provided good service. I really liked the vegetable spring rolls and the chicken and broccoli. The sesame chicken was ok. It’s just not what I’m used to it had a reddish coloring but not bad. I miss the Chinese restaurants in northern Virginia but Id definitely eat here again and look forward to trying other dishes.
