About Great Wall

Great Wall Chinese Restaurant, situated at 1062 23rd St SW in Roanoke, VA 24015, serves the local community as a Chinese restaurant offering both takeout and dine-in options. Based on recent customer feedback, here is a detailed introduction to the environment, services, and features of Great Wall.

One customer who placed a takeout order from the Great Wall at Towers in Roanoke shared a positive initial experience. They noted that their order was taken promptly by a staff member who was described as smiling. Furthermore, the preparation of the food was reported to be quick. The customer specifically mentioned the Shrimp Lo Mein, stating that it was tasty and contained a fair amount of shrimp. The food was also noted to be very hot upon pickup, indicating freshness in terms of temperature.

However, the same review provided mixed feedback on other aspects of the meal. The yellow fried rice was described as rather bland and containing very few vegetables. On a more positive note, the egg roll was reported to be good and crunchy, suggesting a satisfying texture and flavor.

For customers choosing to dine in, the environment of Great Wall is described as plain and simple in terms of decor. The restaurant features a few tables for seating and a self-service condiment area, allowing customers to customize their meals to their preference. Interestingly, the reviewer also noted a somewhat unusual assortment of toothpaste and household goods available for sale within the premises, suggesting a dual function beyond just a restaurant.

In terms of service, the customer who dined in reported excellent and fast service. This indicates that the staff at Great Wall are attentive and efficient in serving their dine-in patrons. The combo meals offered at the restaurant were also highlighted as providing pretty good value for the money, suggesting that customers can enjoy a satisfying meal at a reasonable cost.

In contrast to the positive experiences with the Shrimp Lo Mein, egg roll, and service, another customer reported a less favorable experience with a dish called "chow sam din." This customer mentioned that the menu did not specify that the meat in the dish was breaded and fried, which suggests a potential issue with menu descriptions or a discrepancy between customer expectations and the prepared dish. Furthermore, the chow sam din was described as lacking flavor or sauce, contributing to a negative overall impression. The customer also expressed the feeling that the dish seemed reheated rather than freshly cooked, raising concerns about the preparation methods.

Considering the feedback, Great Wall appears to offer a range of services, including efficient takeout and fast dine-in service. The staff has been described as friendly and prompt. A notable feature mentioned is the availability of combo meals that are considered to be of good value. However, the decor of the restaurant is basic and functional, and there is an unusual aspect of household goods being sold on the premises.

The quality and flavor of the food seem to vary depending on the dish. The Shrimp Lo Mein received positive remarks for its taste and shrimp content, and the egg roll was praised for its texture. On the other hand, the yellow fried rice was considered bland with few vegetables, and the chow sam din was described as flavorless, potentially reheated, and not meeting the customer's expectations based on the menu description.

No specific promotional information was provided in the customer reviews. Local users interested in any special offers, discounts, or new menu items are encouraged to contact Great Wall directly at (540) 343-9708 or +1 540-343-9708 to inquire.

In summary, Great Wall Chinese Restaurant in Roanoke, VA, offers a mix of experiences for its customers. While the service is generally reported as excellent and fast, and some dishes like the Shrimp Lo Mein and egg rolls are well-received, there are concerns about the flavor and preparation of other dishes, such as the yellow fried rice and the chow sam din. The environment is described as simple, with the added peculiarity of household goods being sold. Potential customers may find value in the combo meals and the convenience of both takeout and dine-in options. However, it is advisable to consider the varying feedback on food quality when making a decision. For any current promotions or specific menu inquiries, direct contact with the restaurant is recommended.

Ordered chow sam din, never said on menu meat was breaded and fried. No flavor or sauce. Seemed reheated, not freshly cooked.

I got the chicken fried rice and the chicken is the weirdest quality, high fat content, chewy, soft, flabby, weird texture. I picked it out of the rice and the rice was not bad but also not impressive at all. The wontons were good!

It's a typical fast food Chinese take out. I have nothing to race about, also nothing to complain about. The food is fresh and made quickly. They do not have a public restroom, which is odd.

Very Disappointed! This place previously had good food, not anymore! Food was so greasy it puddled in the container, yet i squeezed out what i thought was enough oil for consumption, but no. I felt sick while eating and could not and did not want to finish eating this meal.
