About Great Wall of China South

Great Wall of China South is a Chinese restaurant located at 6666 Carmel Rd in Charlotte, North Carolina (zip code 28226). Operating within the "Chinese Restaurant" category, it aims to provide a range of Chinese-style dishes to the local community. The restaurant can be contacted by phone at (704) 542-5409 or via their mobile number at +1 704-542-5409.

Based on the limited customer reviews available, experiences at Great Wall of China South appear to be varied, with positive remarks about the dine-in ambiance and certain dishes, but significant negative feedback regarding takeout quality and customer service in response to complaints. Potential customers should consider these differing perspectives when deciding whether to patronize this establishment.

One reviewer who dined in at the restaurant had a largely positive experience. They specifically praised the service as "A+," indicating a high level of attentiveness and satisfaction with the staff. A unique feature of the restaurant that this reviewer enjoyed was the presence of a saltwater tank in the dining room, suggesting an interesting and potentially pleasant visual element contributing to the ambiance. For their appetizer, they ordered the Crab Rangoon but did not recommend it, implying a dissatisfaction with this particular dish. However, their entree, the Great Wall Crispy Shrimp, received high praise. They noted that the broccoli was fresh, crisp, and perfectly cooked in a brown sauce. The shrimp were described as "huge" and offering "great value," with a sweet flavor and a glaze. This positive dine-in experience led the reviewer to express their intention to return, planning to dine in again with a friend and try their Mai Tais, suggesting that the restaurant may also have a bar service.

In contrast, another reviewer had a very negative experience with a takeout order. This customer called to complain about their order but found the manager to be unhelpful. As a result, they stated they would never eat at the restaurant again, declaring it their "first and last time." The specific issues with their order included Crab Rangoons that were burnt, and duck and dumplings that tasted "old and disgusting," rendering the entire meal inedible. This highly negative experience led the reviewer to advise others not to waste their money at Great Wall of China South.

These two reviews present a stark contrast in customer experiences. The positive review highlights good service, a pleasant dining environment with a unique saltwater tank, and a satisfying entree. However, the negative review points to significant problems with the quality of takeout food and unhelpful management when issues were raised. This discrepancy suggests potential inconsistencies in food preparation quality between dine-in and takeout orders, as well as variability in customer service, particularly in handling complaints.

For local users in Charlotte, NC, considering Great Wall of China South, the presence of a saltwater tank in the dining room could be an appealing feature for those who appreciate a unique and visually interesting atmosphere while dining. The positive feedback regarding the Great Wall Crispy Shrimp suggests that certain signature dishes might be of high quality. Additionally, the "A+" service reported by one diner indicates the potential for a pleasant and attentive dine-in experience, possibly complemented by a bar offering drinks like Mai Tais.

However, potential customers should also be aware of the significant negative feedback concerning the takeout food quality, specifically burnt appetizers and old-tasting main dishes. The report of unhelpful management when addressing complaints is also a serious consideration for overall customer satisfaction. Individuals planning to order takeout might want to exercise caution based on this feedback.

As a Chinese restaurant, Great Wall of China South likely offers a broad menu of popular Chinese-American dishes, including appetizers like Crab Rangoon, various poultry, beef, pork, and seafood entrees, as well as rice and noodle dishes. The mention of specific dishes like Great Wall Crispy Shrimp and the intention to order Mai Tais suggest a diverse menu and potentially a bar with alcoholic beverages.

The environment of Great Wall of China South, at least in the dining area, seems to be enhanced by the presence of a saltwater tank, which could create a relaxing and visually engaging backdrop for diners. The service appears to be capable of being excellent, as noted by one reviewer. However, the experience with the manager regarding a complaint about a takeout order indicates a potential issue in their customer service approach.

In conclusion, Great Wall of China South in Charlotte, NC, offers a mixed bag of experiences based on the limited recent reviews. Dine-in customers may appreciate the attentive service and unique ambiance, along with certain well-prepared dishes like the Great Wall Crispy Shrimp. However, there are significant concerns regarding the quality of takeout food and the responsiveness of management to customer complaints. Local residents considering this restaurant should weigh these factors based on their dining preferences and whether they plan to dine in or order takeout.

Service was A+. I loved the saltwater tank they have in the dining room. For an appetizer, I got the Crab Rangoon, and I don’t recommended them. For an entree I got the Great Wall Crispy Shrimp. The broccoli was fresh/crisp and cooked perfect in a brown sauce. Huge shrimp, great value. The shrimp was very sweet and had a glaze on them. I will be back next time but to dine in with a friend and get a few Mai Tais.

Ordered take out. Called to complain. The manager was no help at all. I will never eat here again. This was my first and last time. My crab Rangoons were Burt. The duck and the dumplings tasted old and disgusting. I couldn’t eat anything. Don’t waste your money.

#2 Updated 10/7/2024. We had the Kung Pao Chicken. It was delicious! Prices are excellent and the service is wonderful. Friendly people. This restaurant is very popular for good reason. Very reasonably priced chinese food. We had the General Chicken. It was delicious. I also got a glass of red wine for $8. Always good service here and friendly people. Will go again.

Came here multiple times and got the Duck, Lanzhou beef noodles, and Duck & BBQ combo. Really amazing if you’re into authentic Chinese food! The Duck is really good with chili oil and rice. Would highly recommend!

Was invited by a friend to come to this restaurant. The service was good and fast. They checked on us often. The food was ok. Crab ragoons were over fried, but they did replace them. General chicken was pretty good.
