About Great Wall Express
Great Wall Express is a Chinese restaurant located at 2000 McMillan Ave in North Charleston, South Carolina. Serving the local community, Great Wall Express appears to primarily cater to takeout orders, although dine-in service might also be available. They can be contacted at (843) 554-8822 or their mobile number +1 843-554-8822 for placing orders or making inquiries.
The recent customer feedback for Great Wall Express presents a mixed perspective, with positive remarks regarding certain aspects of the service and environment, but significant concerns raised about the quality of the food and hygiene. Potential customers should consider both the positive and negative points when deciding whether to patronize this establishment.
One reviewer noted "really good customer service" and also commented that "the restaurant was clean." These are positive attributes that can contribute to a pleasant experience, particularly for those picking up takeout orders or dining in if that option is available. Good customer service can make interactions smooth and enjoyable, while a clean environment is essential for any food establishment to ensure customer comfort and confidence.
However, this same reviewer expressed dissatisfaction with the food itself, stating that it "didn't hit the mark though." Several specific dishes were mentioned: the rice was described as "lacking flavor," the orange chicken "wasn't crispy," and the boneless spareribs were reported to be "mostly fat." These comments indicate potential issues with the preparation and quality of key menu items. On a more positive note, the reviewer found the "crab ragoon was on point," suggesting that at least one dish met their expectations. They also mentioned that "the portion size was good," which can be an important factor for customers looking for value.
Despite the mixed experience, this reviewer indicated a willingness to "try again if I was in the area," suggesting that the positive aspects of service and cleanliness, along with the satisfactory portion sizes and the well-prepared crab ragoon, might outweigh the disappointing aspects of other dishes for a future visit, especially out of convenience.
In stark contrast, another reviewer reported a serious hygiene concern. They stated that they "saw a small roach just casually crawling around the floor behind the counter" while picking up their food. This is a significant issue that raises alarms about the overall cleanliness and pest control measures within the restaurant. The reviewer's concern that "if they got little ones it means they’re are big ones breeding there somewhere" is a valid worry associated with pest sightings in food establishments. This type of report can severely impact a potential customer's willingness to patronize the restaurant, regardless of any positive comments about service or cleanliness in other areas.
The presence of a roach, even a small one in a visible area, suggests potential underlying issues with pest management within the premises. Such sightings can lead to concerns about food safety and the overall hygiene standards maintained in the kitchen and other areas not directly visible to customers.
Given these two contrasting reviews, it is difficult to form a definitive overall picture of Great Wall Express. The positive feedback on customer service and cleanliness is encouraging, as is the report of a well-prepared crab ragoon and good portion sizes. However, the significant criticisms regarding the flavor of the rice, the lack of crispiness in the orange chicken, the excessive fat in the boneless spareribs, and, most alarmingly, the sighting of a roach, are serious concerns that cannot be ignored.
There is no information provided in these reviews about the restaurant's environment beyond the mention of cleanliness, nor are there any details about specific services offered beyond takeout (implied). Features that might distinguish Great Wall Express from other Chinese restaurants in the area are also not mentioned. Additionally, there is no information regarding any current promotional offers or specials that they might be running.
Therefore, any introduction to Great Wall Express for local users must objectively present this mixed feedback. While acknowledging the positive comments on customer service and cleanliness, it is crucial to also highlight the reported issues with the flavor and quality of certain food items and the concerning sighting of a roach.
Potential customers will need to weigh these factors based on their own priorities and risk tolerance. For those who value good service and a clean environment and are willing to try certain dishes while being aware of potential inconsistencies in food quality, Great Wall Express might be an option, especially if located conveniently. However, the reported hygiene issue is a significant deterrent that many customers will likely find unacceptable.
In conclusion, Great Wall Express in North Charleston, SC, has received feedback indicating good customer service and a clean restaurant environment. However, concerns have been raised about the flavor of the rice, the preparation of the orange chicken and boneless spareribs, and, most seriously, the sighting of a roach within the premises. While the crab ragoon and portion sizes were noted as positive, potential customers should carefully consider these mixed reviews, particularly the hygiene concern, before deciding to dine at or order from Great Wall Express.

Really good customer service and the restaurant was clean. Food didn't hit the mark though. The rice was lacking flavor, the orange chicken wasn't crispy. The boneless spareribs were mostly fat. The crab ragoon was on point. The portion size was good. I would try again if I was in the area.
Saw a small roach just casually crawling around the floor behind the counter While I was picking up my food. You know if they got little ones it means they’re are big ones breeding there somewhere.
Great Wall is my new go-to. The food is awesome, the price is the same as pretty much any takeout spot you go to. I have to say though, the Philly Cheesesteak egg rolls are my absolute favorite. I order 2-3 with every order.
Ordered the lunch special that is advertised with a soda only to find out when I got there that the lunch special no longer comes with a soda. False advertisement smh
Always get the general tso it’s always amazing perfect amount of sweet and spicy absolutely love this place
