Welcome to Great Wall Express, a local Chinese restaurant conveniently located at 501 Broadway, San Diego, CA 92101, USA. As a Chinese restaurant in the bustling downtown area of San Diego, Great Wall Express aims to provide affordable and delicious Chinese cuisine to local residents and visitors. Situated on Broadway, it offers an accessible option for those seeking a quick and satisfying Chinese meal. Based on the limited information available online, specific details about the environment of Great Wall Express are not extensively described. However, as a "Express" style establishment, it is likely to offer a casual and efficient setting primarily geared towards quick service and takeout. While dine-in options might be available, the focus is typically on providing fast and convenient meals for customers on the go. The positive mention of a "very kind" owner suggests a potentially welcoming and friendly atmosphere, which can contribute positively to the overall dining experience, whether for a quick bite inside or for picking up an order.

Great Wall Express primarily offers takeout and delivery services. One satisfied customer who has been a patron for a year and a half specifically mentioned enjoying the food and the generous portions provided by the owner. This suggests that takeout orders are a popular and reliable option. However, another customer who ordered delivery for the first time had a significantly negative experience, highlighting a potential inconsistency in service quality depending on the method of ordering. This customer reported receiving their delivery at a hotel without any utensils or condiments, which severely impacted their ability to enjoy the meal. Once they managed to find utensils, they found the food to be unsatisfactory.

A notable feature of Great Wall Express, based on a positive review, is the availability of combination meals, such as "Combo C," which includes Lo Mein, sweet and sour chicken, mushroom chicken, and orange chicken. This suggests that the menu offers a variety of popular Chinese-American dishes and combination options for those wanting to sample multiple items. The customer who favored this combo described it as "so good," indicating that some dishes are well-received. However, the customer with the negative delivery experience specifically criticized the appearance of the sweet and sour chicken, stating that the "red stuff" was unlike anything they had ever seen before and found it "very disappointing." This stark contrast in feedback highlights potential inconsistencies in food preparation or quality control.

One consistent positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the affordability of the food. One long-term customer described the food as "delicious and affordable," suggesting that Great Wall Express offers good value for money. Additionally, the kindness and generosity of the owner were specifically praised, indicating a personal touch that can enhance the customer experience for those interacting directly with the owner, particularly for takeout or dine-in customers.

Currently, there is no specific promotional information available for Great Wall Express based on the provided text. Local users interested in any special offers, discounts, or new menu items are encouraged to contact the restaurant directly at (619) 238-8398 or +1 619-238-8398. For local users in San Diego seeking a Chinese restaurant in the Broadway area, Great Wall Express offers takeout and delivery services. While one long-term customer has consistently enjoyed the delicious and affordable food and praised the kind owner's generous portions, another first-time delivery customer had a very negative experience due to missing utensils and condiments, as well as unsatisfactory food quality, particularly the sweet and sour chicken. This suggests that while some aspects of Great Wall Express are well-regarded, there might be inconsistencies in service and food preparation, especially for delivery orders. Potential customers might want to consider these contrasting experiences when deciding whether to order from or visit Great Wall Express.

As a Chinese restaurant in downtown San Diego, Great Wall Express is located in a potentially high-traffic area, catering to both residents and visitors. The positive feedback regarding the owner and the affordability of the food suggests a commitment to value and customer interaction. However, the significant issues reported with a delivery order, including the lack of essential items and the poor quality of the food, raise concerns about the reliability of their delivery service. Customers planning to order delivery may want to take this feedback into account. For takeout or potential dine-in customers, the positive remarks about the food and the owner might offer a more reassuring perspective.

Local residents looking for an affordable Chinese meal in the vicinity might find Great Wall Express appealing, especially given the positive comments about the food's taste and the owner's generosity from a regular customer. However, the negative delivery experience serves as a reminder to perhaps exercise caution or provide specific instructions when placing delivery orders. For those considering takeout, the consistent positive feedback from a long-term patron could be a more reliable indicator of the expected quality. Direct interaction with the owner, as praised in one review, might also lead to a more satisfactory experience.

In conclusion, Great Wall Express, located at 501 Broadway in San Diego, CA, is a local Chinese restaurant offering takeout and delivery services. While it has received praise for its delicious and affordable food, as well as the kindness and generosity of the owner, there have also been reports of negative experiences with delivery orders, including missing items and poor food quality. Potential customers should consider these contrasting reviews when making a decision. Ordered delivery from here for the first time. Wouldn't recommend at all . Was delivered to a hotel and had no utensils or condiments. Once I finally found some utensils to use, food was not good at all. That red stuff is sweet and sour chicken! Never in my life seen it like that. Very disappointing.

Ordered Szechuan beef. There was almost no beef, so much vegetables. Very good flavor but I wanted beef. The description should say it’s so much vegetables because I was expecting beef. Separated the beef to show what I mean.

Well.... It is what it is. The service is way off. The simple fact I had to defend my stance with my drink after spending $32 on my meal was enough for me to rate this establishment 2 ⭐. The food isn't bad but it's not great either, the portions are fine but pretty small considering the competition. When my Dr. Pepper didn't taste like Dr. Pepper after only 1 sip they tried to make me purchase a new fountain drink. Which I can kinda understand.... But BECAUSE I did tip them I felt that I should be able to get the drink I'm going to drink with my meal. The lady behind the counter literally poured herself a drink from the Dr Pepper fountain tap and proclaimed "this is DEFINITELY Dr. Pepper" Ooooooookay But it doesn't taste like it to ME! Anyways.... I got my replacement Coke which is commendable but all those extras.... Meh....I didn't need.

I ordered this on Door Dash. My order arrived very quickly, but when I opened the containers, it was obvious why. I've has plenty of mediocre Chinese takeout in my life, but this was TERRIBLE. I can't trust a single person who reviewed this place and said it was good. Everything was COVERED in sauce, so the egg rolls, fired rice, everything was soggy. The beef tasted like it would definitely make me sick if I kept eating it. The teriyaki chicken was dry, bland, and had an odd color. We didn't finish the food and threw it away. I wasted $40 kn dinner, but now I know to never go here.
