About Great Wall Chinese Restaurant

Great Wall Chinese Restaurant is located at 115 Plaza Ln in Cobleskill, NY. Recent customer reviews suggest a generally negative dining experience at this establishment.

Several reviewers have commented on the dated interior of the restaurant and noted that even when dining in, food was served in plastic takeout containers with plastic cutlery from bins. One customer described the General Tso's (or Gao's) chicken and rice as bland and forgettable, stating it was still the best part of their experience.

An update from the same reviewer indicated that their dining companions agreed the food was "nasty," and they would not eat there again, with the reviewer personally feeling unwell after the meal. They recommended trying the pizza place next door instead, suggesting that dining at Great Wall would be a waste of time and money.

Another review mentioned the apparent use of thigh meat instead of breast for the chicken, resulting in a fatty and unappealing texture. This customer also questioned the presence of pork in the pork fried rice they ordered. Furthermore, another diner expressed disappointment with the pork chow mein, stating that only a quarter of the dish was chow mein (primarily onions with very few pork strips and other vegetables), while the remaining three-quarters was overcooked rice hidden underneath, creating a false impression of the amount of chow mein. They also found the egg roll to be tiny and the bag of noodles half empty, feeling they received a very small amount of tasteless food. This reviewer also noted that the restaurant windows were very dirty and stated they would not be returning.

Based on these recent reviews, it appears that customers have expressed significant dissatisfaction with the food quality, preparation, and dining experience at Great Wall Chinese Restaurant.

Even just walking in and looking around, theres a reason this place is empty. Dated everything. Plastic cutlery in bins, they served us our food in plastic takeout containers despite us dining in. General tso's / gao's chicken was bland and forgettable, same with the rice. Still somehow the best part of the experience. The gentle person behind the counter was loud but otherwise inoffensive service. Update: the two others I dined with agreed that it was nasty. Were never eating there again, and personally by the way my stomach felt halfway through the meal I may never want to ever. I havent tried the pizza house next door, but go there instead. time and money will be wasted here. Ruined my day. It appears they use thigh instead of breast for their chicken, making it fatty and unappealing. one of my group ordered pork fried rice, that made us all wonder if there was any pork at all in it.

Very disappointed. Pork chow mein, one quarter of the dish was chow mein the other 3/4 was over cooked rice. The chow mein was basically onions with pork strips and very few other vegetables. The rice was under the chow mein so it gave the appearance that there was a lot of chow mein. The egg roll was tiny and the bag of noodles was half empty. They made a huge profit and I got a very tiny amount of tasteless food. The windows were so filthy that I couldn’t see out. Not going back.

I feel like all they did was toss some chicken nuggets in some gelled sauce. Literally both my dishes looked like they were slid from a can. Egg rolls were taken from a cooler next to the soda cooler, all I have to say is never again. My advice is go next door to Price chopper and by some frozen Chinese to cook yourself

We've ate there in the past and the food was ok. This time, not so much. I ordered a pork egg roll, an order of shrimp toast, an order of teriyaki beef sticks, a quart of wonton soup and a garlic chicken lunch special with fried rice. Almost nothing was edible and $36 wasted. The egg roll was just ok. The wonton soup was so flavorless and watered down that it wasn't good. The shrimp toast was somehow way overcooked yet some of the "toast" was soggy bread that didn't sit in the oil long enough to get crispy. The beef sticks were like charred jerky with almost no sauce/flavor except for the burnt bitterness. The only thing I was ok with was the garlic chicken with rice but it was missing most of the vegetables that belong in it. Never again, lesson learned, avoid like the plague.

People hate on this place WAYYYYY too much. I've personally always loved the food, and haven't noticed any changes in quality since I've started eating here 10 or so years ago. The sesame chicken has always been delicious, and while the sauce isn't the most flavorful, it's the perfect consistency, and I find it delicious. The egg rolls have always been great, especially with duck sauce on them. The lo mein is always very yummy, and to all those who make comments about the shrimp toast, it's supposed to be greasy, and whenever I get it's it's still crispy. Last thing to address, to those who don't like the dining area inside, have you ever been to a Chinese restaurant before? This is what they look like. It's made to be a takeout place, the interior dining isn't the main attraction. Love this place, always have, always will.
