Welcome to Great Wall Chinese Restaurant, a local culinary find situated at 543 California Ave, Wahiawa, HI 96786, USA. You can reach us at (808) 622-1339 or our mobile number +1 808-622-1339 for inquiries or to place an order. Located approximately 35 minutes outside of Honolulu, Great Wall Chinese Restaurant is gaining recognition as a non-touristy spot offering delicious Chinese cuisine and attentive service to both locals and those willing to venture a bit off the beaten path.

Based on recent customer reviews, Great Wall Chinese Restaurant stands out for its flavorful food and exceptional service. One reviewer described it as an "unexpected find," emphasizing their preference for local, non-touristy establishments. They specifically commended their server, Annika (spelling uncertain), for being wonderful, answering all their questions, providing perfect suggestions, and being very attentive throughout their meal. This highlights the friendly and helpful service as a significant aspect of the dining experience at Great Wall Chinese Restaurant.

The food itself also received high praise. The reviewer mentioned ordering a variety of dishes, including crab rangoons and soft wontons as appetizers, both of which were presumably enjoyable. Their dining companions ordered the General Tso’s Chicken Plate and half of the Roasted Duck, which was enthusiastically received and "loved." The reviewer personally ordered the Pepper Garlic Pork Chop, which they described as "DELICIOUS!!" They also had the Hawaiian Fried Rice and made a special request for "sau-sau-an" (spelling uncertain, described as a type of Filipino vinegar garlic dipping sauce), which they found enhanced the taste of the pork chop. To conclude their meal, they enjoyed the Ube Ice Cream, which was a "delicious surprise." The only minor critique regarding the food was that the fried rice was a "little overcooked," leading to a 4-star rating for the food overall. Despite this minor issue, the reviewer expressed a strong desire to return multiple times if they were staying in the area longer, indicating a highly positive overall impression.

Another customer shared their experience of finally being able to try Great Wall Chinese Restaurant after wanting to for some time, noting that they are closed on Sundays and Mondays. This is important operational information for potential customers to be aware of. This reviewer was the only dine-in customer during their visit but observed a significant number of takeout orders being called in, suggesting that the restaurant is popular for both dine-in and takeout services. They also highlighted the attentive service of the waitress, who consistently refilled their water. For their meal, they ordered the oyster chicken and cake noodles with a side of rice. Their only complaint was that rice was not included with the main meal, implying an expectation that it typically would be. However, overall, they "enjoyed everything," praising the great flavor and the fact that the food was served "super hot." They also appreciated the hot mustard provided. The reviewer found the price to be fair for the amount of chicken and cake noodles received, recommending the restaurant and expressing their intention to bring others there in the future.

Based on these reviews, the environment of Great Wall Chinese Restaurant appears to be a local, welcoming spot where the focus is on good food and friendly service rather than perhaps elaborate décor. The fact that it's considered a "non-touristy" find suggests a more authentic and community-oriented atmosphere. While specific details about the interior or ambiance are not provided, the positive comments about the server and the general satisfaction of the diners imply a comfortable and pleasant setting.

The services offered by Great Wall Chinese Restaurant include both dine-in and takeout, as evidenced by the reviews. The attentive service mentioned by both customers indicates a focus on customer satisfaction. The willingness of the server to answer questions and provide suggestions, as well as accommodate special requests (like the Filipino dipping sauce), further highlights a commitment to good service. The restaurant's closure on Sundays and Mondays is an important piece of service-related information.

Key features of Great Wall Chinese Restaurant include its delicious and flavorful Cantonese-style dishes, such as the General Tso’s Chicken, Pepper Garlic Pork Chop, and the highly praised Roasted Duck. The unexpected find of Ube Ice Cream suggests that they might offer unique or less common dessert options. The generous portions are also a notable feature, as one reviewer mentioned having leftovers despite ordering a lot. The availability of a Filipino-style dipping sauce upon request indicates a willingness to cater to diverse tastes. The hot mustard is another mentioned condiment that seems to be appreciated by customers. The restaurant's location outside of the main tourist areas of Honolulu might be a feature for those seeking a more local dining experience.

Currently, the only implicit promotional information is the appeal of a non-touristy, local spot with delicious food and good service, which in itself can be a draw for those seeking an authentic experience. The fact that customers intend to return and bring others suggests a positive word-of-mouth reputation. No specific discounts or special offers are mentioned in the reviews. Local users interested in any promotions should contact the restaurant directly.

In conclusion, Great Wall Chinese Restaurant in Wahiawa, HI, is a local gem that offers delicious Chinese cuisine, particularly praised dishes like the Roasted Duck and Pepper Garlic Pork Chop, along with generous portions and attentive service. While it is located a bit outside of Honolulu, the positive experiences shared by customers suggest it is well worth the drive for those seeking a non-touristy and authentic dining experience. The friendly service, highlighted by a wonderful server named Annika, adds to the restaurant's appeal. Potential customers should note that the restaurant is closed on Sundays and Mondays. The Great Wall Chinese Restaurant was an unexpected find. We try to find non-touristy and local restaurants. It’s about 35 minutes from Honolulu. Annika (sp?) was a wonderful server. She answered all our questions, gave perfect suggestions and was very attentive. The food was delicious and had leftovers (we ordered a lot). We had crab rangoons & the soft won tons as appetizers. Pat ordered the General Tso’s Chicken Plate and half Roasted Duck, which he LOVED. I ordered the Pepper Garlic Pork Chop (DELICIOUS!!) and Hawaiian Fried Rice. I asked for sau-sau-an (sp? a type of Filipino vinegar garlic dipping sauce), which added to the taste of the pork. The Ube Ice Cream was a delicious surprise. The reason for the 4 stars for food is because the fried rice was a little overcooked. If we were staying longer, we would go to it a few more times. If you get a chance to go, you won’t be sorry.

I have been wanting to try this place for a while but always remember when they are closed(Sunday and Monday). Finally got the chance today. I was the only dine in customer but there were quite a few patrons who had called in orders. The waitress was attentive and kept my water filled! I got the oyster chicken and cake noodles with a side of rice. Which is probably my only complaint, the meal should have rice included. All in all I enjoyed everything. Flavor was great. The food was super hot. Loved the hot mustard. Fair price for the amount of chicken and cake noodles I received. Recommend and will bring others here for sure.

Aloha Everyone! Got a new review for you today! My husband wanted to pick up dinner from Great Wall Chinese Restaurant, so I decided to order the Orange Chicken Plate with Garlic Fried Rice. I liked it well enough, very mild tasting, no strong flavors. Normally I like a more bold taste in my food but I wasn’t feeling well the past week so mild worked better for me. The chicken pieces were popcorn size, just right, I dislike huge chunks. The Orange Chicken was a tad bit on the dry side but they had a decent amount of sauce so it ended up being ok. It didn’t seem like freshly crushed garlic was used in the Garlic Fried Rice because it did not have a strong garlic flavor at all so depending on how you like yours, it might or might not be to your taste. Same goes for the Orange Chicken. Not a strong orange flavor. On the weak side compared to other places. The French Fries were VERY IMPRESSIVE which is funny because when my husband told me they served fries here I busted out laughing. I wasn’t laughing when I ate them though! I was shocked at how super super good they were! PERFECT in fact. Wouldn’t think to order fries at a Chinese Restaurant but if you like fries, do yourself a favor and don’t pass on these! They seriously blow 95% of the competition in this area away. My Husband had the Black Pepper Chicken and an order of Fried Rice with peas and carrots. He enjoyed his meal. My mom had the Cold Ginger Chicken Plate. She said it was good. Sauce was different from the majority of places with the bright green so it depends on your taste. Very good service at this establishment. Really nice people and that always makes doing a review a pleasure. Mahalo for reading and Support Local!!! 09/20/2023 My Husband wanted Great Wall Chinese Restaurant last night for Dinner, and this time he picked the Kim Chee & SPAM fried rice. I could tell when I took the photos that he would be disappointed because honestly I didn’t see the Kim Chee. It was there apparently, you just needed to use tweezers. Order something else. My mom however, got the Large Order of Won Ton Soup and this was VERY satisfying for her. She enjoyed the vegetables along with good broth, and of course the won tons in there. There were TEN (10 pcs.) Of LARGE Won Ton!!! She was very very happy and said from now on this is where she is ordering from because she never saw such generous portions anywhere else. They also gave hot mustard too. I just ordered the fries because all day I didn’t have much of an appetite and I needed to take my meds so it was enough for me. I did however order dessert today. Deep fried Oreos for my mom and Butter Mochi for me. The Oreos got a thumbs up 👍 but I would pass on the Butter Mochi. 12/09/2023 Aloha! Tried something new on the Great Wall menu tonight. Tried their Mochiko Chicken with plain fried rice. Although I had much more flavorful ones elsewhere, I really liked the bit size pieces and it was cooked to perfection. I had my own sauce so it worked out fine. I liked the plain fried rice for its simplicity. I do not, sadly, like the peas, carrots or egg like they have in normal fried rice that most locals like. Sorry. Just me. I really liked the deep fried plain dough with honey dipping sauce 😍 very simple but made well. U can make any dessert you want from the deep fried dough if you don’t want to use their dipping sauce. Add ice cream with chocolate or caramel sauce, whipped cream with strawberries, or dunk them in coffee! I highly recommend you trying them ❤️ my husband who was nice enough to pick up our food tonight, tried their chow funn noodles with bean sprouts and char siu. He said it was good. As usual, their fries were awesome. Crispy and hot 😉. Moms enjoyed her usual won ton soup. Mahalo for reading and as always, please support local!! 😙🤙

This is an amazing Chinese Restaurant. We are very fortunate to have them in the north shore town of Wahiawa. My wife and I make this restaurant a date lunch at least once a month. The food is as good if not better than Chinatown. The flavors are exceptional, the ambience is beautiful and the staff always exceeds customer expectations! Visit Great Wall Restaurant and enjoy your experience!
