If you're a resident or visitor in Salem looking for a satisfying and environmentally conscious Chinese buffet, Great Wall Buffet presents a compelling choice.

The environment at Great Wall Buffet is consistently described as welcoming and friendly. This suggests a focus on hospitality and ensuring that guests feel comfortable and valued. Another reviewer, a local who considers it one of their favorite Chinese buffets in Salem, echoes this sentiment, implying a consistently pleasant ambiance that contributes to a positive dining experience. The emphasis on a friendly and welcoming environment can significantly enhance the overall enjoyment of a buffet, where customers often interact with multiple staff members.

The service at Great Wall Buffet appears to be a strong point, with employees described as "incredibly friendly and welcoming." This suggests a customer-centric approach where staff members are attentive and create a positive interaction with diners. While the buffet format inherently involves self-service for food selection, the friendliness of the employees contributes to the overall service experience. Additionally, the availability of a made-to-order stir-fry station indicates a willingness to cater to individual preferences and provide freshly cooked options beyond the pre-prepared buffet selections. The owner's commitment to minimizing food waste, mentioned by one reviewer, also reflects a service-oriented mindset that extends beyond just serving food to encompassing responsible business practices.

The food at Great Wall Buffet is generally well-received, with one customer stating that "everything was absolutely delicious!" This high praise for the overall quality of the food suggests that Great Wall Buffet offers a satisfying culinary experience across its various dishes. While one reviewer noted that most of the food is "pretty plain" and "kind of like homestyle cooking," they also mentioned that "everything tastes good" and that they leave feeling "very satisfied." This suggests that the buffet focuses on well-prepared, comforting dishes rather than overly complex or heavily seasoned options. The availability of a stir-fry station allows customers to customize their meals with fresh ingredients cooked to order. The sushi selection is noted as being "pretty small," so those primarily seeking a wide variety of sushi might find the offerings limited. However, the focus on well-prepared and tasty Chinese dishes appears to be the main draw. One minor point of feedback was that the food is "usually not as hot as I would like it to be," which is something to be aware of for those who prefer their buffet items to be very hot. However, the reviewer also appreciated that the food is not over-salted.

As a buffet-style restaurant, the primary service model at Great Wall Buffet is all-you-can-eat. This allows diners to sample a wide variety of dishes at a fixed price. The inclusion of a stir-fry station adds a customizable element to the buffet experience, allowing customers to select their ingredients and have them cooked fresh. While the sushi selection is limited, its presence adds another dimension to the offerings. The focus on "homestyle cooking" suggests a comforting and familiar approach to Chinese cuisine. The owner's commitment to minimizing food waste is a unique feature that may appeal to environmentally conscious diners, reflecting a responsible and forward-thinking business practice.

A notable feature of Great Wall Buffet is the owner's strong commitment to minimizing food waste. One reviewer highlighted this, stating that it was "refreshing to see a business that cares about sustainability" and that the owner has "a great philosophy about not letting anything go to waste." This dedication to reducing waste is a significant positive aspect that distinguishes Great Wall Buffet and may resonate with customers who value environmental responsibility. It suggests a thoughtful approach to managing food preparation and leftovers, potentially contributing to both environmental benefits and the overall efficiency of the restaurant.

The reviews do mention that the prices at Great Wall Buffet are "a bit higher than some other options." However, one customer felt that "the quality of the food more than made up for it," indicating that the value proposition is still strong despite the slightly higher cost. This suggests that while it might not be the cheapest buffet in the area, the quality of the food and the overall experience justify the price for many customers. No specific promotional information, such as discounts, lunch specials, or senior rates, is mentioned in the provided reviews. This place was a wonderful surprise! From the moment I walked in, the employees were incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a genuinely nice atmosphere. While the prices are a bit higher than some other options, I honestly didn't mind. The quality of the food more than made up for it – everything was absolutely delicious! And I especially appreciated the owner's commitment to minimizing food waste. It's refreshing to see a business that cares about sustainability. He has a great philosophy about not letting anything go to waste, which I respect. Overall, despite the slightly higher cost, it was a fantastic experience, and I can't wait to go back!

one of my favorite Chinese buffets in Salem. Their selection of sushi sushi dishes it's pretty small you can have them make a stir fry for you that looks good. I would say that most of the food here is pretty plain. Kind of like homestyle cooking. Everything tastes good and when I leave here I feel very satisfied. The food is usually not as hot as I would like it to be but they don't over-salt things and I just enjoy eating here. It's very basic and sometimes that's what I'm just in the mood for

Overcharged for bringing a baby. I came with my family 4 adults and one 3 months old baby in a car seat. They overcharged me $6 more because I am bringing a baby in a car seat and that takes extra space. I argued with the guy on the front and offered me free sodas but I don’t drink sodas!! They didn’t let me know of this overcharged before I pay, and you pay first and then eat. They just charge you and don’t tell you anything!! Never coming back. They think they are in China where they can charge you without telling you! Be aware of your receipt in this place! Also one island was closed. It was very crowded and seafood went fast. It doesn’t have the capacity for a full house. Again, one island was closed! And you are paying for this? Customer service isn’t great either. I would recommend another buffet, like the one in Lancaster.

Went 6:30pm Monday evening - Was a somewhat limited amount of items for a hot buffet, but it was kept filled, fresh, & was hot. The raw buffet (Mongolian grill) equally limited - about a dozen items. (*Did NOT try.) Also had an equally small salad bar that looked completely untouched and slightly sad. (*Did NOT try.) The Sushi was very minimal. I had 1 Spicy & 1 Regular California roll of the 2 of each that were left- VERY chewy seaweed. Minimal desserts - usual 3 types of cakes, a couple cookies and ice cream with syrup. All-in-all, the hot buffet was pretty good. The only complaints I would have is: *The Sushi selection was WAY too minimal, and the chewiness of the seaweed made me think they had been sitting there awhile. *The staff could be more lively and ensure their station is properly supplied, while sitting playing on their phones, waiting for customers. They should acknowledge customers when they come to their station, not seem like we're bothering them.

Great Wall Buffet 2875 Commercial St SE, Salem, OR 97302 What can i say? Standard Chinese buffet is like we are accustomed to. Being there at 6pm on a friday, we were seated very quickly and served our drinks. From 6:30pm on, the customers poured in. The restaurant remained very clean and the tables were cleaned and ready for the next customers quickly. The food options were refilled every 5-15 minutes keeping the food hot and fresh. The crab 🦀 wontons were soft, not over cook crunchy. The spring rolls were good and crispy on the outside.  There were enough seafood options for those who crave buffet style Chinese food. The sweet and sour chicken 🐔 coating was perfect, no old oil taste and not greasy. We have been to Chinese buffets acrost the western states, and although our favorite and most expansive is in Tucson Az,   Great Wall delivers acceptable expectations for the area. Looking at the pricing $$. M-F is same cost, and only raising it $2 for the weekend. Look at the food 📸 photos and count how many different items on out plates.
