When considering a visit to a buffet-style restaurant, it's important to take into account the range of experiences reported by other customers. Recent reviews for Great Chow China Buffet present a somewhat mixed picture of the dining experience. One customer, who visited on March 21, 2025, expressed significant dissatisfaction with their meal. They described the food as "so horrible you couldn't hardly eat it," citing issues with various dishes. According to this review, the meat was "cooked way too hard," and the vegetables were undercooked and hard. The rice was described as "very dry" and lacking flavor. Even a previously любимый (favorite) dish, the lo mein noodles, was reported to look "dried out." Other complaints included dry and tasteless egg rolls, broccoli that was too hard to bite, chicken that was overcooked and dry, shrimp that was overcooked and either hard or chewy, wings that were dried out, and fried dumplings that were burnt and tasteless. This reviewer also mentioned that a fresh batch of dumplings brought out was no better. Furthermore, they expressed frustration with the lack of a satisfactory response from the staff when these issues were raised, noting that they were told "oh I tell someone" without any further resolution or opportunity to speak with a manager. This negative experience led the customer to conclude that it was "not worth the money they charge for it at all" and advised others to avoid the restaurant, mentioning that many other diners were also sending back plates due to similar issues with dryness, lack of taste, and overcooking. This particular customer reported spending $75 and feeling it was a waste.
In contrast, another family, the Futrell family, who visited on an unspecified date, reported a "great experience." They found the staff to be attentive and the food to be "fresh and flavorful." They also noted that the Hibachi station was open and considered the overall experience to be "all for a great price." This positive review indicated their intention to return to try the dinner service.
Considering these two recent reviews, there appears to be a significant divergence in customer experiences at Great Chow China Buffet. One family reported a highly negative experience with multiple aspects of the food quality and the service response, while another family found the food fresh and flavorful, the staff attentive, and the price reasonable. This suggests that the quality and service may vary, or that different customers have different expectations and experiences.
Based on the available information, it is challenging to provide a definitive description of the environment or ambiance of Great Chow China Buffet. Neither of the reviews offered specific details about the restaurant's decor, cleanliness, or overall atmosphere. Similarly, detailed information about the services offered is limited. We know they provide a buffet service and have a Hibachi station (at least on the day the Futrell family visited). However, information about other potential services such as takeout, delivery, or catering is not included in the provided text.
In terms of features, the buffet style itself is a key feature, offering a wide variety of dishes for a fixed price. The presence of a Hibachi station, where food is cooked fresh in front of the customers, is another notable feature mentioned in one of the positive reviews. The "original brown rice" mentioned in the Little China review is not referenced here, suggesting it is a unique offering of that specific restaurant. The Great Chow China Buffet aims to provide a diverse selection of Chinese cuisine in a buffet format.
No promotional information, such as discounts, special offers, or themed nights, is mentioned in the provided reviews. To obtain information about any current promotions or specific offerings, it would be best to contact Great Chow China Buffet directly at (706) 737-7997.
In conclusion, Great Chow China Buffet in Augusta, GA, offers an all-you-can-eat Chinese dining experience with a Hibachi option. However, recent customer reviews present contrasting experiences regarding food quality and service. One review reported significant issues with overcooked, undercooked, dry, and tasteless food, as well as a lack of satisfactory service response. In contrast, another review described the food as fresh and flavorful, the staff as attentive, and the price as great. Potential customers should be aware of these differing opinions and may want to consider these factors when making their dining decisions. For the most up-to-date information on their menu, services, and any ongoing promotions, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended.

This will be our last time ever going to Great Chow. We was there around 5pm 3/21/25, had (or should I say tried to have) dinner with your kids. But the food was so horrible you couldn't hardly eat it. My husband couldn't eat because the meat was cooked way to hard, the veggies wasn't cooked enough (maybe 5 minutes) they was hard like you would go out and pick them out of your garden and eat right there. The rice was very dry to the point it had no flavor. My oldest son loved going there to eat but he even said he was done with it. He complained about the egg rolls being dry and tasteless, the broccoli to hard he couldn't bit it. The chicken being cooked to hard and being dry. He didn't even get the lo mien noodles like normal because his word they look dried out( which they was). The shrimp was way over cooked that it was either hard or chewy basically not eatable. The wings was cooked so long they was dried out. The fried dumplings was burnt and tasteless. I even tried a fresh batch that was brought out but they was the same. When you tell someone that the food was cooked to long all you get is "oh I tell someone". You want to go some place to eat something "good" but you pay for crap and all they offer is there is nothing we can do about it. You don't even get to talk with anyone in charge just an employee that is supposedly some sort of manager without the manager title. Not worth the money they charge for it at all. You will be very disappointed if you go there. Too many there while we was there was sending back plates barely with any food off it. They all said the same thing about the food. Too dry, tasteless, and over cooked. Its a shame that they can't get any better help that is willing to cook correctly. A waste of $75 that was spent there.
The Futrell family visited the Great Chow China Buffet today. We had a great experience. The staff was attentive. The food was fresh and flavorful, and the Hibachi was open. All for a great price. We will be back to try the dinner. See ya soon. 😊
Terrible food and service. Even staples of a buffet like orange chicken, lo mein and wontons were disgusting. Didn't take more than a few bites of my go to favorites and felt sick. Tried to explain to staff that the food was no good but they caught and attitude, were extremely rude and made me pay full price. $20+ for a single plate I took a combined total of 4 bites of. Wouldn't come here if it was the last place on earth. I can only hope the few bites I took won't cause any stomach trouble in a couple hours.
The food was wonderful and beautifully decorated. The sushi bar was my favorite place. I filled my plate thrice!! Everything was just Soooo beautiful. And for a buffet!! The prices were amazing!! Only 12$ an adult. 2 and under was only 1.99$ and 3-5 was only 5.99$ the drinks were over priced tho...so it definitely made up for the cheap prices in food. But still fed my family good food for only 40$
Great service & really good food. Perfect for the kids; has great variety!
