The limited customer reviews available online for Grand Wall Chinese Restaurant present significant concerns regarding the hygiene and food handling practices observed within the establishment. One detailed review paints a disturbing picture of unsanitary conditions and potentially unsafe food preparation. This review should be carefully considered by anyone contemplating dining at or ordering from Grand Wall.
According to one customer's account, the restaurant was crowded. The cashier was noted to be friendly and was wearing gloves while taking customer payments. However, the serious issue arose when this same cashier reportedly used the same gloves to handle and cook food. The reviewer claims to have witnessed the cashier touching the inside of the frying basket with the gloves used to take payments, then using those same gloves to place chicken into the fryer. This sequence of actions presents a clear risk of cross-contamination between money handling and food preparation.
The reviewer further alleges that the cashier returned to the front to take more customer orders, again handling payments with the same gloves, and then went back to the kitchen to handle the frying chicken. They reportedly saw the cashier use the same contaminated gloves to pull the chicken up in the frying basket, touch it, and then put it back into the grease. Adding to the concern, the reviewer states that another individual, identified as the cashier's mother, then began cooking in the back without wearing gloves and was never seen washing her hands. The reviewer also claims to have witnessed the cashier, approximately two minutes later, pulling up the chicken in the fry basket and touching it with her bare hands before returning it to the grease. The mother was still reportedly not wearing gloves. Based on these observations, the reviewer concluded that Grand Wall Chinese Restaurant is a "very unsanitary place to eat" and strongly advised against it.
Another review provided feedback on a specific dish, the pepper steak with shrimp lo mein. This reviewer gave a rating of three stars, with the primary point of feedback being that the noodles were red, which was unexpected. They also noted that the noodles were a bit thinner than what they were accustomed to. While this review does not raise the same level of alarm as the first one, it does indicate a potential difference in food preparation or presentation that might not align with all customers' expectations.
Considering the stark contrast between the two available reviews, there is a significant cause for concern regarding the hygiene practices at Grand Wall Chinese Restaurant, as detailed in the first account. The alleged cross-contamination between handling money with gloves and then using those same gloves to handle and cook food, as well as a cook not wearing gloves and not being seen washing hands, are serious violations of food safety standards. Such practices could lead to the spread of bacteria and potential foodborne illnesses. While the second review offers a more neutral comment on a specific dish, the gravity of the first review cannot be understated.
As a Chinese restaurant, Grand Wall likely offers a menu featuring a variety of popular Chinese-American dishes. These typically include appetizers, soups, fried rice and noodle dishes (such as the shrimp lo mein mentioned), and entrees featuring chicken, beef, pork, and seafood prepared with various sauces and vegetables. Pepper steak is a common dish in such establishments. However, the alarming allegations of unsanitary food handling practices overshadow any potential merits of their menu offerings. Food safety should be a paramount concern for any dining establishment.
There is no information available regarding any promotional offers or special deals at Grand Wall Chinese Restaurant based on the provided customer reviews. Local residents considering dining at or ordering from this restaurant should carefully weigh the serious allegations made in the first review regarding food safety and hygiene. It would be prudent to consider these concerns before making a decision.
In conclusion, the limited online feedback for Grand Wall Chinese Restaurant in Baton Rouge, LA, presents a significant cause for concern. One detailed review alleges multiple instances of unsanitary food handling practices, including cross-contamination through improper glove usage and a cook not wearing gloves or washing hands. These are serious violations that could pose a risk to public health. The other review offers a more neutral comment on a specific dish, noting a difference in noodle color and thickness. However, the severity of the unsanitary practices described in the first review warrants extreme caution for potential customers. Based on this information, it would be advisable for local residents to think very carefully before choosing to dine at or order from Grand Wall Chinese Restaurant and perhaps consider establishments with more reassuring and positive feedback regarding hygiene and food safety.

Crowded place. The cashier was friendly. She had gloves on when taking people payment. The problem came in when she would use the same gloves to cook peoples order and I seen her touch the inside of the frying back with the same gloves she used to take customers payments. Then proceeded to put the chicken in the fryer and dropped it in the grease. She come back to the front to take more customers orders then go back to the kitchen and with the same gloves pull up the chicken in the frying basket and touched it with the same gloves, then dropped it back in grease and her mom in the back walked up and started cooking. Never seen her wash her hands. Like two minutes later, she pulls up the chicken in the fry basket and touches it with her bare hands before putting it back in the grease. The mom still had no gloves on. This is a very unsanitary place to eat, and I would not recommend it.
