About Gourmet Kitchen
Gourmet Kitchen is a Chinese restaurant strategically located at 1051 Stockton St in the bustling heart of San Francisco's Chinatown. Situated just a few doors north of the renowned Good Mong Kok Bakery, Gourmet Kitchen positions itself as an excellent "bang-for-your-buck" lunch destination, particularly appealing to those working downtown or in the vicinity. As a valued member of the Chinese Restaurant category, Gourmet Kitchen offers a variety of traditional Cantonese-style dim sum alongside its highly praised affordable lunch specials and other tasty items.
A standout offering at Gourmet Kitchen, frequently highlighted by patrons seeking value, is its signature $8 three-item lunch special. This bargain provides a substantial and satisfying meal, allowing customers to choose three items to be served over either plain rice, fried rice, or noodles. The selection of items available for this special is quite diverse, catering to a range of preferences. Protein options include flavorful fried shrimp, delicately steamed-fried fish (often Tilapia), classic sweet and sour pork, savory pork ribs, and tender pork stomach. Complementing these are a variety of fresh vegetables such as cauliflower, crisp green beans, bok choy, tender eggplants, earthy mushrooms, and vibrant broccoli, ensuring a balanced and nutritious meal at an exceptional price point.
In addition to the popular lunch special, Gourmet Kitchen also receives high praise for its steamed pork veggie buns (菜肉包子). These are described as "really tasty" and are offered at an attractive price of only $5 for a serving of three or four, making them an excellent snack or light meal option. The positive feedback suggests that these buns are well-made and flavorful, likely featuring a soft, fluffy exterior and a savory pork and vegetable filling that appeals to many.
However, one reviewer offered a word of caution regarding the Congee of Thousand-Year-Old eggs with shredded pork (皮蛋瘦肉粥). This dish was described as "plain" and lacking in a sufficient amount of ingredients. Therefore, while the reviewer generally recommends Gourmet Kitchen for its value and other offerings, they suggest that this particular congee dish might not be the best choice.
A significant advantage of Gourmet Kitchen, especially when compared to its popular neighbor Good Mong Kok Bakery, is that it provides a few tables for customers who wish to sit down and enjoy a quick bite on-site. This dine-in option adds to its convenience, particularly for those who prefer to eat their meal immediately rather than taking it away. This feature, combined with its affordable prices, makes Gourmet Kitchen an ideal location for a takeout lunch box in Chinatown with the added benefit of limited seating.
Accessibility is another strong point for Gourmet Kitchen. Its location on Stockton Street provides easy access to several Muni lines, including the 1, 8, 30, 45, and the T line. This makes it a convenient dining option for both those working in the area and visitors exploring Chinatown via public transportation.
One insightful reviewer highlighted the importance of finding affordable lunch options with "real food" in the current economic climate. They emphasized that Gourmet Kitchen offers such an alternative to potentially overhyped and overpriced establishments, suggesting that it is a smart choice for those looking to manage their finances and maintain a healthy diet without compromising on taste or quality (at least for the recommended dishes). This perspective underscores the value that Gourmet Kitchen provides to the local community.
Further bolstering the positive image of Gourmet Kitchen is another reviewer who shared an "Amazing Dining Experience." This customer lauded the restaurant's atmosphere as "cozy and welcoming," complemented by a "beautiful interior that sets the perfect mood." This description contrasts with the more functional image conveyed by the lunch special review, suggesting that Gourmet Kitchen offers a pleasant ambiance for a more extended dining experience as well.
The food experienced by this reviewer was described as "absolutely delicious," with each dish being a "delightful burst of flavor" made with "fresh and high-quality ingredients." A personal favorite mentioned was the "," a classic dim sum item, which the reviewer highly recommended. This positive feedback across different dishes and dining experiences indicates a consistent commitment to quality at Gourmet Kitchen.
The service at Gourmet Kitchen also received high marks from this reviewer, who described the staff as "attentive, friendly, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal." This suggests a customer-focused approach where the team takes pride in providing a great overall experience for their guests. The positive comments on both the ambiance and the service indicate that Gourmet Kitchen strives to be more than just an affordable lunch spot.
Based on this overwhelmingly positive experience, the reviewer concluded that Gourmet Kitchen is "the spot" for those seeking excellent food, great ambiance, and exceptional service, expressing a definite intention to return. This strong endorsement further solidifies Gourmet Kitchen's reputation as a worthwhile dining destination in Chinatown.
Currently, there is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. There are no details about ongoing discounts, special offers, or featured menus. Local users interested in learning about any current promotions at Gourmet Kitchen are advised to contact the restaurant directly or check for any online presence they may have.
In conclusion, Gourmet Kitchen on Stockton Street in San Francisco's Chinatown offers a compelling combination of affordability and quality, particularly for its Cantonese-style dim sum and its signature $8 three-item lunch special. While it serves as a convenient and budget-friendly option for takeout lunches, it also provides a cozy and welcoming atmosphere for those wishing to dine in. The tasty steamed pork veggie buns are another highlight. With generally positive feedback on both the food and the service, Gourmet Kitchen stands out as a smart choice for local users seeking a satisfying and affordable Chinese dining experience in the heart of Chinatown. The easy access via multiple Muni lines further enhances its appeal.

Gourmet Kitchen just several doors up north to socially popular Good Mong Kok Bakery on the bustling Stockton street in Chinatown is the bang-for-your-buck lunch place while working downtown or nearby. In addition to a variety of traditional Cantonese-style dim sum the best bargain in my view is its signature $8 three items lunch over plain or fried rice (or noodles) including fried shrimp, steam-fried fish (Tilapia), sweet sour pork, pork ribs, pork stomach, as well as a variety of vegetables including cauliflower, green beans, bok choy, eggplants, mushroom, broccoli, etc. Also, it’s steamed pork veggie buns (菜肉包子)are really tasty, only $5 for a total of 3 or 4. However, imhv avoid its Congee of Thousand-Year-Old eggs with shredded pork(皮蛋瘦肉粥) because its plain and not enough ingredients inside. The location also has a few tables for customers to sit down for a quick bite, which Good Mong Kok Bakery does not have. It's an affordable ideal location for a takeout lunch box in Chinatown with easy access to Muni lines 1, 8, 30, 45 and T line. Under the current economic circumstances finding an affordable lunch place with real food (of course not every day) not a mere popular yet inflated name is imperative yet smart to survive financially and healthily.
** Amazing Dining Experience!** I recently had the pleasure of dining here and it was an unforgettable experience! The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with a beautiful interior that sets the perfect mood. The food was absolutely delicious--every dish was a delightful burst of flavor, made with fresh and high-quality ingredients. The [chicken feet] was a personal favorite, and I highly recommend it! The service was top-notch; the staff were attentive, friendly, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the meal. It's clear that the team takes great pride in providing a great experience for their guests. If you're looking for a place with excellent food, great ambiance, and exceptional service, this place is the spot. I'll definitely be coming back!
Parking: only limited street parking space. Very tiny place serves fast togo style foods. Limited seats inside. A lot of choices to choose from. All these foods are fresh made and tastes not bad at all. I got 3 entrees with rice for $8. Personally I think it's a lot of food and I can't finish.
Where the $8 三餸飯(3 entree + rice) lives, along with a variety of bakery goods and dim sum. Honest and generous, has a few tables inside.
I ate the $8 bento today and sat behind the door: kailan, pork chop, sweet and sour chicken. Pork chop overcooked and tough. Kailan very crunchy and fresh. But I wish to say thank you very much to the boss and friendly staff who provide these budget friendly meals to me. 🫡
