Gourmet House

Food was not great, I probably would have put this place at 2/5 stars, but the service they gave us was horrible, because they started to talking down at us. The price is economical here, but the food is so/so. There wasn’t really a dish that was a wow, but I definitely remember dishes which I will avoid if I were to return. The reason this place got a 1 star is because the service. The waitress talked down on us, saying that the room we sat in usually requires a $800 minimum, but they upgraded us as a good will because they didn’t want to give us 2 tables and separate us in the main room We asked if we could use the TV in the room, and she started telling us that we didn’t hit the minimum on the room and that we “only order $300” of food. Pretty rude thing to say. They also started to clean our table and put things away before we were done eating. Even though we were not the last ones in the restaurant and there was more than one hour left before closing. One of our dishes came with vegetables that we cook in the pot ourselves. But they took away the pot, when there was still food left and veggies left without asking. That dish was only half finished while most other dishes were dishes were finished. Basically, talking down to us and rushing us out early is why I’m giving 1 star instead of 2 stars.

This is a cozy Chinese restaurant where you can enjoy most of the popular stir fry, deep fry dishes. Their soup is a must try item. Weekends are always busy, it is better to make a reservation before going.

Atmosphere: simple setup, considerably clean Food: very good, consider I ain't too fond of lobster, this lobster cooked just right, noodle not soggy. The sticky rice stuffed chicken and taro duck dish are also very well made. Service: Not consider fast and efficient. However, the servers are friendly and I wouldn't mind a bit of waiting. It's a new restaurant, hope it's will keep the food quality. I will be back for other signature dishes.

This restaurant offers comfort Chinese food, nothing fancy or high-end but comfy and homey, it feels like home, which I appreciate. 老地方 offers one of the BEST sweet & sour pork dishes in Toronto, it's a MUST ORDER. Crispy texture outside, yet juicy inside. No funny pork smell like some other restaurants. Good amount of sweet & sour sauce but not overly pour, sauce not super sweet nor super sour, which is perfect. At $15.99 CDN it's a great deal. Other food items here are good portion, fair and reasonable pricing. They also offer lunch specials here offering stir fry noodles or rice. In terms of dinner combo options, they don't offer many options. There are 2 options for 4 people, then 6 people and 8 people but the price gap between the 2 options for each group is far apart. For example, one option for 4 people is $108 CDN and the other option for 4 people is $168 CDN and when I see the dishes within the combo, I don't see how it's worth $168 CDN. Otherwise, we prefer to order a la carte here, we enjoy the sizzling free range chicken clay pot or the boiled free range chicken, the assorted tofu with seafood and meat was nice as well. Hardworking and friendly staff here. They offer complimentary Old Fire Chinese soup for anyone who orders dinner combo or a la carte dinner options. They also offered a complimentary small snack bites consist of pickled radish & carrots and peanuts. That's a nice touch! We highly recommend 老地方 for comfort family lunch and dinner.

Savoury food and reasonable price. We will for sure come back.
