About Good Neighbor Restaurant

Welcome to Good Neighbor Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant situated at 35122 Newark Blvd in Newark, California. Operating within the Chinese Restaurant category, Good Neighbor Restaurant has garnered positive attention from local users as an excellent spot for family dinners and satisfying Cantonese-style cuisine. Located in Newark, within the vibrant Bay Area, it offers a diverse menu and a welcoming environment for both dine-in and take-out customers.

According to initial customer feedback, Good Neighbor Restaurant provides an "amazing spot for family dinner." The style is described as "Cantonese Cafe," suggesting a comfortable and perhaps slightly informal setting that is conducive to family gatherings. The reviewer also noted "good service" and expressed a definite intention to return, indicating a positive overall experience.

Another patron who visited for dinner mentioned hearing good things about the restaurant prior to their visit. Their experience aligned with these positive reports, as they found the "food quality and portions were very good." They also described the service as "efficient" and the atmosphere as "fine," leading them to conclude that they "would certainly come back." This reinforces the restaurant's reputation for providing quality food and satisfactory service in a pleasant setting.

Convenience is also a noted aspect of Good Neighbor Restaurant. Being located in a stand-alone building within a shopping center, it offers "plenty of parking," a significant advantage for diners. Inside, the restaurant is described as having "plenty of tables for big and small groups," making it suitable for various dining needs, from intimate meals to larger family or group gatherings. The service was again highlighted as "efficient," suggesting a consistent standard of attentiveness from the staff.

A particularly distinctive feature of Good Neighbor Restaurant is its "homestyle restaurant" approach. In addition to ordering a la carte from the regular menu, diners have the option to choose from a "separate list" offering a set price meal. At the time of one review, this set price was $35.99 for three dishes, which also includes soup for dine-in customers only. Any additional dishes beyond the initial three are priced at $11.99 each. This set-up provides excellent value and allows customers to sample a variety of dishes. The choices available within this set price menu are described as "numerous," including popular Cantonese fare such as fried flounder, various claypot dishes, stir-fried vegetables, a selection of meat dishes, and noodle dishes. It's worth noting that white rice is available as a separate order at $2 per serving.

One detailed review provided specific insights into the set price menu experience. For a party of three, they selected the spicy green beans with ground pork, the seafood tofu claypot, and the taro root chicken claypot. The meal began with a complimentary soup, which on that particular day was a "nice and light" corn and egg flower soup, described as a good way to stimulate the appetite. The spicy green beans arrived next, noted for being fresh from a "very hot wok" and having "great flavor." The reviewer found them highly enjoyable and a good accompaniment to white rice. The claypot dishes took a bit longer to arrive but were deemed "worth the little bit of wait." Both claypots featured flavorful vegetables like cabbage and carrots at the bottom. The seafood tofu claypot contained "big chunks of cod, shrimp, fish paste, and fried tofu," while the taro chicken pot included "big slices of chicken, taro, shitaki mushrooms." Both were praised for having "deep flavor without being too salty."

The generous portion sizes at Good Neighbor Restaurant were also highlighted, as the group of three had "enough leftovers for another meal." This further emphasizes the value offered, especially with the set price menu. The atmosphere is described as "casual," aligning with the "Cantonese Cafe style" mentioned in an earlier review. The reviewer also observed that the restaurant does a significant take-out business and has many repeat customers, suggesting a loyal local following built on consistent quality and service.

Based on the collective feedback, the environment of Good Neighbor Restaurant is casual and comfortable, suitable for family dinners and gatherings of various sizes. The presence of ample parking in the shopping center enhances its accessibility. While the decor is not explicitly detailed, the focus appears to be on providing a functional and welcoming space for diners to enjoy their meals.

The services offered by Good Neighbor Restaurant include both dine-in and take-out options. The efficient service is consistently mentioned in positive reviews, indicating a well-run establishment. We came for dinner to check this place that we've heard good things about. The food quality and portions were very good. The service was efficient and the atmosphere was fine. We would certainly come back. Being at a stand alone building in a shopping certer, there was plenty of parking. The restaurant had plenty of tablrs for big and small groups. The service was efficient. I would consider this a homestyle restaurant, where besides ordering a la carte you can get 3 dishes (from a separate list) for a set price ($35.99 at this review) with soup (dine-in only). Additional dishes after the 3 are $11.99 each. For this set-up your choices are numerous including such choices as fried flounder, various claypot dises, stir fried vegetables, meat dishes, and noodle dishes. White rice is $2 per order. For 3 people we had the spicy green beans with ground pork, the seafood tofu claypot, and the taro root chicken claypot. The first that arrives after ordering is the soup. On this day, it is corn and egg flower soup. A nice and light soup to stimulate the appetite. The green beans came out next. Fresh from a very hot wok it had great flavor. It was hard to stop eating it once you start and it's especially good accompaniment with white rice. The claypots took a little bit longer, but worth the little bit of wait. Both had flavorful vegetables (cabbage, carrots, etc) on the bottom. The seafood one had big chunks of cod, shrimp, fish paste, and fried tofu. The taro chicken pot had big slices of chicken, taro, shitaki mushrooms. Both had deep flavor without being too salty. We had enough leftovers for another meal. The atmosphere is casual and clearly they do a good take out business and many diners are repeat customers.

Food is tasty and not greasy which we appreciate. Portions are HUGE which is awesome. They still serve free soup as an appetizer which is a nice touch. Will be back - often.

Good Neighbor Seafood Restaurant holds a special place in our hearts as our go-to spot for family dinners. Our love affair with their delicious cuisine dates back to their days next door to the big building in the same parking lot, formerly Lucky's. Their food is unrivaled in the area, boasting the finest Chinese flavors that keep us coming back time and time again. What sets them apart is their personalized service; they greet us like old friends and already know our favorite orders. It warms our hearts when they ask about other family members who couldn't join us. Even during busy times, the wait is never unbearable, a testament to their efficient service and commitment to customer satisfaction. Good Neighbor Seafood Restaurant is more than just a place to eat; it's a cherished part of our family traditions.
