About Good Alley
Welcome to Good Alley, a distinguished Chinese restaurant located at 8450 E Valley Blvd #108 in Rosemead, California. Situated in the same plaza as 888 Seafood Restaurant but on the Shin-Sen-Gumi Ramen side, near Cha Tra Mue (Thai tea) and Golden Delight #2, Good Alley offers local users a delightful experience in Northern Chinese cuisine. This a la carte and family-style restaurant has quickly garnered attention for its flavorful dishes, efficient service, and a welcoming atmosphere that some have even compared to the renowned Din Tai Fung.
Good Alley distinguishes itself by offering a range of authentic Northern Chinese dishes, with several items receiving high praise from early diners. The cucumber salad is consistently highlighted as a "must-try," lauded for its freshness, a subtle spicy kick, and a satisfying crunch. This appetizer sets a promising tone for the meal to come.
Another standout dish is the beef wrap, which one reviewer enthusiastically rated a perfect 10/10. It is described as not being overly flaky, packed with flavorful fillings, and reminiscent of char siu, suggesting a savory and satisfying handheld option.
For noodle lovers, the Sichuan zhajiang noodles are noted for their great balance of flavors and a pleasant numbing aftertaste characteristic of Sichuan peppercorns. While one reviewer wished for a bit more spice, the overall impression was positive, indicating a well-executed noodle dish.
While some dishes receive exceptional praise, others have garnered more moderate feedback. The braised beef soup, for instance, was described as "just okay," with tender and well-cooked meat but a broth that could benefit from more salt to enhance its flavors. This suggests that while some items are definite winners, others might be less remarkable.
A significant feature of Good Alley is the provision of condiments such as soy sauce, chili oil, and black vinegar directly on the table. This thoughtful touch allows diners to customize their sauces, particularly for enjoying the dumplings and soup dumplings according to their personal preferences.
Good Alley operates as an a la carte restaurant with a family-style approach, making it ideal for dining with a group. This format encourages sharing and allows diners to sample a wider variety of dishes. As one reviewer noted, "The more people you have in your party you can try more dishes," enhancing the overall culinary experience.
The menu at Good Alley showcases a diverse selection. Appetizers include the highly recommended Xi'an cold noodles (which reminded one diner of dan dan noodles) and Sliced Beef and Ox in chili oil. Vegetable options feature the Cauliflower dry pot, although one reviewer noted that the sliced pork belly in this dish had skin that wasn't cooked down enough, making it hard.
The handmade dumplings are a highlight, with the Kurobuta pork with shrimp and chives receiving positive feedback for a "nice mouthful bite" and fresh ingredients. The soup dumplings, featuring Kurobuta pork with crab meat, were a clear winner, described as "juicy" with "real crabs."
For those looking for something unique, Good Alley offers Chinese burgers, including the Cumin Lamb Chinese Burger and the A5 Wagyu Beef Chinese Burger. These Roujiamo (buns) are praised for being crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, holding the meat nicely. However, the Sliced Beef and Oxtail was a less favored dish, described as "bland" with the chili oil being the predominant flavor, requiring adjustment with added sugar and soy sauce by one diner.
The dessert options appear limited, with only a steamed red bean bun mentioned, which the reviewer did not try. However, Good Alley does offer a variety of teas and boba-type drinks, providing beverage choices beyond standard soft drinks and water.
The service at Good Alley is consistently praised as "very efficient." Reviewers note that the food arrives piping hot, and the staff are attentive, constantly checking in on diners, clearing empty plates, and refilling drinks. The organized and efficient service contributes significantly to the positive dining experience.
In terms of the environment, Good Alley offers indoor seating only. It is located in a busy plaza with shared parking, which can be challenging, especially on weekends. The restaurant accepts credit cards and provides restroom facilities for customers.

In conclusion, Good Alley in Rosemead offers a promising experience in Northern Chinese cuisine, with standout dishes like the cucumber salad, beef wrap, and their exceptional handmade and soup dumplings. The efficient and attentive service further enhances the dining experience. While some dishes have received mixed reviews, the overall positive feedback, particularly for their signature items, makes Good Alley a compelling option for local users seeking authentic and flavorful Northern Chinese fare in a family-style setting. Despite potential parking challenges due to its location in a busy plaza, the culinary delights and service at Good Alley appear to make it a worthwhile visit.

The cucumber salad is a must-try—fresh, with a little spicy kick and the perfect crunch. The beef wrap was a solid 10/10: not too flaky, packed with flavorful fillings, and reminiscent of char siu. The Sichuan zhajiang noodles had a great balance of flavors, and I loved the numbing aftertaste—though I wish it had a bit more spice. As for the braised beef soup, it was just okay. The meat was definitely tender and well-cooked, but the broth could use a little more salt to really bring out the flavors.
Good Alley has been on my list to try for quite awhile. A friend of mine came here last week and said you have to try it because it's like Din Tai Fung. My friends and I finally took the leap to try out Good Alley. So glad they just opened so people don't know about this place yet. But I am not going to keep this place because I want them to succeed. I love the fact that the condiments such as soy sauce, chili oil and black vinegar are on the table so you can make your sauce for the dumplings/xlb. They are a la carte restaurant/ family style which was perfect for us. The more people you have in your party you can try more dishes. For our items: Appetizer: Xi'an cold noodles (reminded me of dan dan noodles), Sliced Beef and Ox in chili oil Vegetables: Cauliflower dry pot Handmade Dumpling: Kurobuta pork with shrimp and chives Soup Dumpling: Kurobuta pork with crab meat Burgers: Cumin Lamb Chinese Burger and the A5 Wagyu Beef Chinese Burger Drinks: Saving space for dessert elsewhere so we just had ice water Dessert: Not much choices just a steam red beans bun (But we did not try it) The Highlights: The winner of all the dishes were both the dumplings (the soup dumpling had real crabs and was juicy and the handmade dumpling had a nice mouthful bite to them with fresh ingredients). We definitely enjoyed the Xian cold noodles (refreshing and memorable). Both Chinese burgers were excellent choices to try Roujiamo (buns for the burger-It's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and holds the meat nicely). Our least favorite dishes were the Sliced Beef and Oxtail (bland and the only thing you can taste was the chili oil). My friend had to fix this dish by asking for sugar and adding more soy sauce. The dry cauliflower clay pot had sliced pork belly in there but the skin wasn't cooked down enough so it was hard. Service was very efficient and the food came out piping hot. The staff are constantly checking in on you and checking if you need anything. They are constantly clearing the empty plates and refilling our drinks. The staff at this restaurant are always checking so thank you for being organized and so efficient! Definitely recommend and would definitely come back. Tips: *Accepts Credit Cards *Restroom for customers. *Indoor seating only *They sell a variety of teas and boba type drinks *Same plaza as 888 but on the Shin-Sen-Gumi Ramen side with Cha Tra Mue (thai tea spot)/ Golden Delight #2 *Parking lot shared with other businesses Can be challenging on the weekend
Clean restaurant with great service and pretty good food. Xiao long bao was very delicious and had a lot of soup. We also tried the wagyu beef burger. The pancake was not very flavorful and the beef itself was ground up with onions and other garnishes, which made the flavor pretty delicious but it was difficult to eat like a burger cuz the filling would fall out quite easily. We also tried the hand smashed lime jasmine tea, which has a unique lime flavor that paired well with the jasmine tea. Definitely a very refreshing drink which helped provide some variety when sipped in between bites of the other heartier dishes.
The pork dumplings are decent and reminds me of DTF as the skins were very thin and has lots of soup. However, I didn't like how you only get 8 when most restaurants give you 10. The Wagyu beef burger was the star of the show. The meat was tender and super flavorful. I don't normally like onions but they were caramelized to perfection and went well with the beef. The braised beef noodle soup is quite different from other places as the broth is not as strong, but somehow it works with the noodles and the pickled cabbage that is given. Not sure if I'd ever crave it, but still pretty good. The stir fry chicken noodles were nothing to write home about. Very average. For the amount of wait, I'm not sure I would really come back unless it's for that beef burger. They should really get rid of all those bench seating in the middle of the restaurant and just have round tables so they can fit more tables and make the wait shorter.
Okayyy, this place is good. If you are looking for Noodles and Dumplings, this is a great place. The only thing is, is that there is a long wait. There isnt much room to wait inside, so a lot of people are waiting outside towards the parking lot. This plaza seems to be a popular spot as the parking lot was packed! The Xi-an Cold noodles is a MUST. It was so good. We ordered Beef Roll, Beef Noodle Soup, and I can say the Shao Long Bao was really good! I like the thin skin with soup inside. The staff were dressed nice, and quite attentive. If I am in the area I would definitely come back again. Can’t wait to try some of the other dishes on the menu!
