About Golden Wok

Golden Wok, situated at 5731 N Central Ave in Chicago, IL 60646, has been a part of the local dining scene for several years. According to customer reviews, this Chinese restaurant has undergone some recent changes, including a shift in management and an updated menu. For local users in Chicago seeking a Chinese dining experience, Golden Wok presents a mixed picture of familiar flavors and evolving practices.

One long-time patron, who had been visiting Golden Wok for three and a half years, expressed significant disappointment with recent alterations. This customer noted that while they had previously enjoyed the food and found the prices comparable to other establishments, the restaurant had "apparently" come under new management. The primary changes observed were a price increase of $2.00 to $4.00 per item, slightly smaller portion sizes, and updated dinnerware. Despite these changes, the customer acknowledged that the food quality remained good. However, they pointed out that the interior of the restaurant still had a "dive" aesthetic and that the same family appeared to be running it as before.

A significant point of contention for this reviewer was the new menu's pricing structure, which differentiates between lunch and dinner prices, a practice they found uncommon among other Chinese restaurants. Their experience of being charged dinner prices for a lunch order, resulting in a $9.00 overcharge for a party of three, raises concerns about transparency and billing accuracy under the new management. Additionally, this customer noted the absence of classic Chinese-American dishes like Chop Suey and Egg Foo Young from the new menu, leading them to decide not to patronize the restaurant in the future due to the availability of numerous other comparable options.

In contrast to this negative experience, another customer expressed great satisfaction with Golden Wok. This reviewer, who had recently moved to the area and been disappointed with other local Chinese options, was delighted to have found Golden Wok. They specifically praised several dishes they had tried, including the Singapore noodles, crab Rangoon, and chicken fried rice. Their enthusiastic feedback, stating "Love everything we've tried!", highlights the appeal of certain items on the menu. This customer also noted the "excellent fast delivery" service, indicating that Golden Wok caters to those who prefer to enjoy their meals at home.

The conflicting reviews suggest a potential inconsistency in the current customer experience at Golden Wok. While some dishes continue to be well-received and the delivery service is commended, the changes in pricing, portion sizes, and menu offerings under the apparent new management have alienated at least one long-term customer. The discrepancy in pricing between lunch and dinner menus is a notable feature that local users should be aware of when ordering.

The address of Golden Wok is conveniently located on North Central Avenue in Chicago, making it accessible to residents in the surrounding area. For those interested in placing an order or making inquiries, the restaurant can be contacted by phone at (773) 631-8884 or via their mobile number at +1 773-631-8884.

Based on the available reviews, Golden Wok offers a selection of Chinese dishes that are enjoyed by some, with particular praise for items like Singapore noodles and crab Rangoon. The restaurant also provides a fast delivery service, which is a significant convenience for many customers. However, potential patrons should be aware of recent changes in management that have led to price increases, slightly smaller portions, and a revised menu that no longer includes some traditional favorites. The differentiated lunch and dinner pricing is also a factor to consider when placing an order.

While one recent customer found Golden Wok to be a positive discovery after being disappointed with other local options, another long-term patron expressed dissatisfaction with the recent changes. This divergence in experiences suggests that the impact of the new management may vary depending on individual preferences and expectations. Local users may want to try Golden Wok to form their own opinion, keeping in mind the reported changes in pricing and menu. The positive feedback on specific dishes and the delivery service indicates that Golden Wok still has appealing aspects for some customers.

In conclusion, Golden Wok in Chicago presents a Chinese dining option with a mix of positive and negative recent feedback. While praised for certain dishes and its delivery service, the restaurant has also faced criticism regarding price increases, portion sizes, menu changes, and billing practices following an apparent change in management. Local users considering Golden Wok should weigh these factors based on the available customer reviews to determine if it aligns with their preferences and expectations for a Chinese restaurant.

Very disappointed, We've been eating at the Golden Wok since we moved here 3 1/2 years ago and had loved it, It was good food and comparably priced until recently when it "apparently" went under NEW management but the only thing new was the menu with a $2.00 - $4.00 per item increase in price, slightly smaller portions and updated dinnerware. Although the food is good it's still a dive on the inside with the same family running it as before. Their new menu is divided into either lunch or dinner prices which is more than any other Chinese restaurant. For 3 of us it cost $67.00 for lunch, My father paid the bill and I didn't find out until after how much the bill was, I looked it over and realized they charged us the dinner price which was about a $9.00 over charge ($3 per meal) and on a side note I don't know of any Chinese restaurant that doesn't have Chop Suey and Egg Foo Young on their menu but this one no longer does. I will no long patronize this restaurant there are just too many other places that are just as good

It's one of your typical Chinese restaurants It has a typical Chinese menu with the kung pow chicken and such On some fortunate notes, with the lack of business, I can usually eat there undisturbed, and my wait time for food is fairly quick They give out your food in a boat tray with a filling amount If you ever want to just grab a quick, cheap , filling lunch, this place is one of your options
