About Golden Palace

Welcome to Golden Palace, a Chinese Restaurant located at 3607 Forbes Ave in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While they offer a weekday lunch buffet, customer reviews strongly recommend experiencing their consistently superb Cantonese dinner service by ordering from their a la carte menu.

Environment: The focus of the reviews is primarily on the food and service quality, with less emphasis on the specific ambiance. However, the high ratings for dinner service suggest a pleasant dining environment.

Services: Golden Palace is noted for its excellent Cantonese dinner service. It's also a BYOB establishment, allowing you to bring your own wine to enjoy with your meal.

Features: Golden Palace is highly praised for its authentic Cantonese cuisine, with flavors that evoke memories of Hong Kong's diverse food scene. Their roast duck is particularly highlighted as the best in Pittsburgh, described as juicy with perfectly rendered fat and almost paper-thin skin. The Char Siu pork is also recommended for its unique Chinese BBQ flavor and lean texture. Another recommended dish is the sautéed Bokchoy with garlic. While not primarily a Dim Sum eatery, they offer a small selection, with the Shu Mai and Shrimp Leek Dumplings being noted as exceptionally Cantonese and reminiscent of traditional Dim Sum. One customer also enjoyed the pork congee with fried bread stick and found the roasted duck noodle to be good even after reheating.

Promotional Information: Foodies in Pittsburgh looking for authentic Cantonese flavors are encouraged to skip the weekday lunch buffet and instead visit Golden Palace for their consistently superb Cantonese dinner service. Ordering from their short and navigable a la carte menu is highly recommended to experience dishes like their exceptional roast duck, unique Char Siu pork, and traditional-style dumplings. Remember to bring your favorite wine to complement your dinner at this BYOB establishment.

the buffet is not available on the weekends so i did not get a chance to try that. however pork congee and fried bread stick were my favorite. this brought back my childhood memory :) dim sum was good too. i ordered roasted duck noodle to go and it was still good even when i reheated it the next day.

Update Nov 2024, more than 2 years after last post UPGRADE rating to 5⭐️ FOR CONSISTENTLY SUPERB CANTONESE DINNER SERVICE. *** This is a conclusion from several independent visits between myself and foodie friends. (Photos uploaded separately at the time of update). The lunch buffets on weekdays is NOT the measure of this place. ITS GEM IS THE UNDERSTATED CANTONESE A LA CARTE, best enjoyed at supper time😎. It’s truly superb, the flavors brings back fond memories of Hongkong, a culinary center known for myriad Cantonese foods, from the street stalls to takeaways to casual and fine dining. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩 THIS IS PITTSBURGH’S BEST PLACE FOR ROAST DUCK. In addition, the dumplings are reminiscent of traditional Cantonese DimSum. Indeed, while this not a DimSum eatery (unfortunately Pittsburgh DOES NOT YET have a true DimSum Restaurant), the dumplings are exceptionally Cantonese! It’s a BYOB, so bring your favorite wine for dinner. Service is excellent. ***** SURPRISING AUTHENTIC CANTONESE, against the cheap Chinese-style greasy salty lunch buffet (corruption of Chinese cuisine). Please please forget that buffet. ORDER FROM THE MENU, and awaken your palate to the subtle flavors of the Cantonese. The menu is short and very navigable. My recommendations: 1. Cantonese duck - juicy, fat rendered very much to the almost paper thin skin 2. Char Siu pork - unique Chinese BBQ pork, very lean 3. Sautéed Bokchoy with garlic They also have a small dim sum selection - the best is the Shu Mai and Shrimp Leek Dumplings. It’s a find for Foodies.

I think this place is actually quite underrated! They specialize in Cantonese food, and some of the menu items are truly unique. I have tried a few of their dinners, and everything has been pretty satisfactory. A few days ago, I went and just got a little snack from them. I tried the flowing egg sugar buns. They were actually very tasty as well. Not incredibly sweet, but still very flavorful. Filled with a ton of the sweet paste on the inside. I’ve had this from a few places, and this has been one of my favorite versions. Tons of filling too! Solid portions, okay prices. All in all, I think this place is often overlooked, but it’s quite good! Very solid deal for the portions and unique items. I would recommend it!

Surprisingly authentic and fresh Cantonese dishes. We tried the roasted duck, crab congee, and sticky rice chicken. I lived in Hong Kong for years and the roasted duck I had today was above average, the skin was very crispy. I didn’t expect to have this authentic Cantonese food here in Pittsburgh. Also, the dishes we ordered were all made with fresh ingredients. It is very difficult to cover the rotten tastes of ducks and crabs.

This place is my new top choice for a buffet. Super friendly service, very comfortable atmosphere, and probably the best tasting general tsos I've ever had.
