About Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant

Located at 19438 7th Ave NE # E in Poulsbo, WA, Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant has been serving the local community as part of the Chinese Restaurant category. While past experiences may have been positive for some customers, recent reviews indicate a decline in food quality and consistency, raising concerns for potential local users. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview of the environment (as inferred from service), services, features (based on menu items mentioned), and significant customer feedback that serves as important information for those considering dining at Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant.

Environment: Likely a Standard Takeout and Dine-In Establishment

The provided reviews primarily focus on the food quality and service related to takeout orders. However, the mention of customers "ordered" and "got takeout" implies that Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant likely operates as a standard Chinese restaurant offering both takeout and dine-in services. The lack of specific details about the ambiance or décor suggests a functional environment typical of many local Chinese restaurants, where the primary focus is on the food and service. The location within a strip mall or similar commercial area is also a common setting for such establishments, prioritizing accessibility for local residents seeking Chinese cuisine.

Services: Takeout Service with Reported Issues in Food Quality

The reviews explicitly mention takeout service, with customers ordering items to take away. One reviewer noted a past positive experience with their orders of shrimp fried rice and almond fried chicken, suggesting that the restaurant was capable of providing satisfactory takeout meals. However, recent experiences indicate a decline in the quality of the food received through this service. Another customer who ordered takeout experienced significant disappointment with multiple dishes, including General Tso's chicken, pepper beef, Golden Special Chow Mein, and soup. The issues reported range from a high percentage of vegetables with minimal sauce to completely flavorless dishes and overcooked meat. These negative experiences with takeout service highlight a potential inconsistency in food preparation and quality control.

Features: Traditional American Chinese Menu with Recent Quality Concerns

Based on the items mentioned in the reviews, Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant appears to offer a menu of traditional American Chinese dishes. These include shrimp fried rice, almond fried chicken (with a specific gravy), General Tso's chicken, pepper beef, and Golden Special Chow Mein. The presence of hot and sour soup is also indicated. Historically, the food, such as the shrimp fried rice and almond fried chicken, was enjoyed by at least one customer. However, recent feedback points to significant concerns about the quality and preparation of these dishes. The shrimp fried rice was described as having minimal ingredients beyond shrimp and burnt egg. The almond fried chicken's gravy has reportedly changed to the dissatisfaction of a long-time customer. The General Tso's chicken was criticized for being mostly vegetables with little sauce, the pepper beef for being flavorless, and the meat in the Golden Special Chow Mein for being overcooked and flavorless. Even the soup was questionable in terms of its identity and quality. These recent issues suggest a potential decline in the consistency and quality of the food across various menu items.

Promotional Information: Past Positive Experiences Contrasted with Current Negative Feedback

Historically, Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant may have relied on positive word-of-mouth, as indicated by a customer who "used to really enjoy" their food. This past positive reputation could have served as a form of promotion. However, the recent, strongly negative reviews present a significant challenge to any current promotional efforts. The feedback detailing flavorless food, poor ingredient ratios (excessive vegetables, minimal meat), changes in beloved recipes, and overall disappointment is likely to deter potential local users. One customer explicitly stated their intention not to return after a $60 order resulted in food they wished they had replaced with frozen alternatives. The plea from a long-time customer for the restaurant to revert to its recipes from a couple of years ago suggests that awareness of a decline in quality might be spreading through word-of-mouth. In the absence of any positive recent feedback or specific promotions, the current narrative surrounding Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant, based on the available reviews, is predominantly negative, urging potential customers to exercise caution.

In conclusion, while Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant in Poulsbo may have had a positive reputation in the past, recent customer reviews paint a concerning picture of declining food quality and consistency. Issues such as minimal meat portions, flavorless dishes, changes in recipes, and overall disappointing experiences have been reported. Local users considering this restaurant should be aware of this recent feedback, which suggests a significant drop in the standards that may have previously attracted customers. The lack of positive recent reviews or promotional information makes it difficult to recommend Golden Lion Chinese Restaurant based on the currently available information.

I must say I used to really enjoy my food when I ordered, but the last couple times I’ve ordered and I usually order the same thing shrimp fried rice and almond fried chicken. The fried rice has shrimp in it, but it had a little bit of burnt egg and that’s about it. Nothing else. The chicken was OK. They have changed their gravy for almond chicken as well, which I really didn’t care for. I hope they change their menu back to what it was a couple years ago. It was much better. I hope that them, knowing that the food isn’t up to what it used to be, maybe they can change back. I can’t be the only one that thinks this, anyways best wishes to y’all I hope things improve. The way I see it people don’t know that there’s a problem unless people speak up….

I got takeout, the general tsos chicken was 90% vegetables and had almost no sauce to it, the pepper beef was completely flavorless. The meat in the golden special chow mein was overcooked and also flavorless. I don't even know if the soup i got was hot and sour soup or just broth with vegetables added. I'm extremely disappointed. I spent $60 just to wish I got frozen food instead. Not coming back here again

I got sick before getting halfway through my meal. I ordered the special for the day. Chicken was overcooked and stringy with no flavor, fried rice was dry, and the pork In it overcooked. I understand not being a busy place and trying to use food before it goes bad. But doing that makes people not ever come back. The cooks here don't seem to have any love for making food, and it's a shame.

I can't remember if the TV dinners from the 70's had a Chinese option but if they did this would be it. The carrot and pea mixture was straight out of the frozen food isle at a discount grocery store. I will say... it was edible, not much more. Not worth the time or money.
