Based on recent customer reviews, experiences at Golden Gate Chinese Fast Food have been largely negative, particularly concerning food quality, pricing, and consistency. One reviewer, prompted by a viral TikTok trend featuring Egg Foo Young, decided to revisit the restaurant after a significant time. They ordered Shrimp Egg Foo Young with Shrimp Fried Rice, requesting garlic sauce as a substitute for the traditional gravy. This order highlighted several issues that potential customers should be aware of.
Firstly, there was a discrepancy in pricing. The initial quote provided over the phone was "around $20," but the final charge upon arrival was $26.53. The reviewer considered this price to be "quite steep for a Chinese takeout order," especially given the subsequent issues with the food itself. This suggests that the pricing at Golden Gate might be higher than expected for a fast food establishment, and there may be inconsistencies between quoted and actual prices.
The packaging and portion sizes also drew criticism. The meal was provided in two separate containers, one with three large Egg Foo Young patties and the other with shrimp fried rice. However, the rice container was "not filled," leading to an imbalanced ratio of Egg Foo Young to rice. After consuming one patty with the limited rice, the reviewer was left with two more patties and nothing to pair them with. This indicates potential issues with portion control and ensuring a balanced meal for takeout orders.
The quality of the garlic sauce, a key component of the substituted order, was described as "particularly disappointing." The reviewer found it to be "thin, watery, and lacking flavor." Furthermore, the sauce container was not even filled completely, leaving an insufficient amount to accompany the remaining Egg Foo Young patties. The reviewer felt that at a total cost nearing $30 (including the price discrepancy), a full and flavorful portion of sauce should be a basic expectation. This suggests a decline in the quality of their sauces compared to past experiences.
The reviewer also noted a significant difference in overall quality compared to previous visits, attributing this potential decline to a "recent change in ownership," a sentiment echoed in other unspecified reviews. The reviewer recalled regularly ordering garlic wings with fried rice in the past and remembered the garlic sauce being "much more flavorful." This inconsistency over time is a significant concern for returning customers who might have had positive experiences in the past.
Adding to the perception of being overpriced, the order did not include standard accompaniments such as an egg roll or a drink. This lack of additional items for the cost further reinforced the reviewer's feeling that the meal was not worth the price paid. Ultimately, the reviewer found the food so "unappetizing" that they chose to give the leftovers to a homeless individual rather than waste the money spent, concluding that they could not recommend Golden Gate Chinese Fast Food and would not be returning due to the high prices, poor food quality, and lack of consistency.
Another customer review focused on a different dish, the Singapore Rice Noodle, and their experience was equally negative. This reviewer expressed disbelief that such a dish could be "ruined," describing the noodles as tasting "watery" and having "barely any flavor." The disappointment was so significant that, despite living on the other side of town, the reviewer regretted not returning the dish for a refund. This separate negative experience across a different menu item suggests that the issues with food quality are not isolated to the Egg Foo Young and fried rice.
Information regarding the environment of Golden Gate Chinese Fast Food is not provided in these reviews. As a "fast food" establishment, it is likely geared towards quick service and takeout, with potentially limited seating or ambiance for dine-in customers. The focus of the feedback is squarely on the food quality and pricing aspects of their service.
The services offered by Golden Gate primarily seem to be takeout, given the nature of "fast food" and the experiences described in the reviews. While dine-in might be an option, the reviews do not focus on the in-restaurant experience. The mention of phone ordering indicates that they facilitate takeout orders placed in advance. However, the discrepancy in pricing quoted over the phone versus the final charge at pickup suggests a potential issue with their order processing or communication.
Features of Golden Gate Chinese Fast Food, based on these reviews, are difficult to ascertain positively. While they offer standard Chinese takeout fare such as Egg Foo Young, fried rice, and Singapore Rice Noodle, the recent experiences indicate significant problems with the preparation and quality of these dishes. The past positive experiences with garlic wings mentioned by one reviewer suggest that they may have had well-received items previously, but current quality seems to have declined. The viral trend of their Egg Foo Young on TikTok, which prompted one reviewer's visit, could be considered a past feature that drew attention, but the actual experience did not live up to the hype.
No promotional information is mentioned in either of the provided reviews. Local users interested in any special offers or discounts at Golden Gate Chinese Fast Food would need to contact the restaurant directly at (704) 536-7748 or +1 704-536-7748. Checking online platforms or social media might also provide information if they have any active promotions.
In conclusion, recent customer reviews for Golden Gate Chinese Fast Food at 5708 N Sharon Amity Rd in Charlotte, NC, paint a concerning picture regarding food quality, pricing, and consistency. Issues with watery and flavorless dishes, unexpected price increases, and poor portion balance have led to significant disappointment. The potential decline in quality due to a possible change in ownership is also a worrying trend. While the restaurant aims to provide fast food Chinese cuisine, the recent experiences suggest that the quality does not justify the price. Potential local users should carefully consider these recent negative reviews before deciding to order from Golden Gate Chinese Fast Food. It might be prudent to seek more recent feedback or consider alternative Chinese fast food options in the area.

Customer Reviews
I recently visited this restaurant after seeing the viral Egg Foo Young trending on TikTok. It had been a long time since my last visit, so I decided to give it a try and called in an order for Shrimp Egg Foo Young with Shrimp Fried Rice, substituting garlic sauce for the traditional gravy. When I called, I was told the total would be around $20, although I didn’t catch the exact amount. However, upon arrival, the total came to $26.53, which I found quite steep for a Chinese takeout order. The food was packaged in two separate containers one with three large Egg Foo Young patties and another with shrimp fried rice. Unfortunately, the rice container was not filled, resulting in an uneven ratio of Egg Foo Young to rice. After eating one patty with the rice, I was left with two more and nothing to pair them with. The garlic sauce was particularly disappointing thin, watery, and lacking flavor. To make matters worse, the container wasn’t even filled completely, so there wasn’t enough sauce to accompany the remaining patties. At nearly $30, a full portion of sauce should be a basic expectation. I also noticed a significant difference in quality compared to previous visits, which might be due to a recent change in ownership, as mentioned in other reviews. I used to regularly order their garlic wings with fried rice and remember the sauce being much more flavorful in the past. This order did not include an egg roll or a drink, which further added to the feeling that the meal was overpriced. Ultimately, I gave the leftovers to a homeless individual rather than throw them away, as I couldn't justify wasting the $30, I had spent — but unfortunately, the food was so unappetizing that I cannot recommend it. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience. Between the high prices, poor quality food, and lack of consistency, I won’t be returning.
I never knew you could ruin a Singapore Rice Noodle dish!! The noodles tasted watery and it barely had any flavor! I was disappointed and live on the other side of town, otherwise I would have brought this dish back and requested a refund!
The food is beyond terrible. Was very surprised on my first bite of rice that it was so bland. Ok, we can sauce it up a little and help it out. I ordered a combo that came with chicken as the meat. After the first bite of that I really, honestly don't know if I want to call it chicken. Don't know how they made this conglomeration of meat, but it's not right. Taste of the sauce is ok, still maybe a little bland, but ok. I can't eat anymore of this meat though. I will now happily finish my bland rice and call it a loss. Lesson learned. Chicken shouldn't turn to mush upon first bite.
As I read the other reviews from people, it amazes me how ignorant people really are. The old owners and food they served was amazing, but people move on. The new owners are polite and nice and give a good sized serving for the price. The new recipes are really good and ofc not going to be like the old one hints a new owner. The negative comments don’t really make sense. If you do like them because they’re Hispanic, it shows what century you’re living in.
The fact that it was empty should of been the first sign. The portions were extremely small and the food was very bad (I had tothrowitaway). They painted the dining area but that doesn't make-up for the diminished food quality. On a good not, the cashier was very friendly and professional.
