About Golden Garden Chinese Restaurant

Welcome to Golden Garden Chinese Restaurant, located at 5737 Western Ave, Knoxville, TN 37921, USA. You can place your orders or make inquiries by calling them at (865) 588-5517 or their mobile number +1 865-588-5517. Golden Garden Chinese Restaurant has been serving the Knoxville community for many years, specializing in takeout and American-style Chinese cuisine with a focus on fresh, handmade preparations and homemade-style recipes.

According to long-term customer feedback, Golden Garden Chinese Restaurant stands out for its commitment to quality and freshness. One reviewer, who has been ordering from them for over 16 years, describes their food as the best takeout/American-style Chinese food they have ever had. They emphasize that while the dishes are familiar, they are prepared fresh, by hand, and with homemade-style recipes and cooking techniques. This suggests a dedication to a higher standard of preparation compared to typical takeout fare.

This long-time patron specifically praises several items on the menu. They consider the Hot and Sour Soup and Egg Drop Soup to be the best around, noting that unlike the overly thick and artificially yellow versions found at many other restaurants, Golden Garden's soups have a nice, normal consistency and natural color, without tasting processed or generic. This attention to detail in the preparation of even standard items suggests a commitment to quality ingredients and traditional methods.

Furthermore, the reviewer highlights the Sweet and Sour Sauce, describing it as thin and not gelatinous, with a taste that suggests it is genuinely made with pineapple juice rather than a premade base. This detail further supports the idea of homemade-style cooking and a focus on fresh, natural flavors. The Pad Thai is also singled out as exceptional, with the reviewer claiming it is the best in Knoxville, even surpassing the quality of the now-closed Taste of Thai and other places they have tried. This strong endorsement suggests that Golden Garden's Pad Thai is a standout dish worth trying.

The reviewer explicitly addresses potential customers who might have expectations based on standard, heavily thickened sauces and processed takeout, such as that found at Panda Express. They suggest that these individuals might be initially disappointed by Golden Garden's approach, but that this is because the food here is of a higher quality and represents a well-made take on familiar dishes. This sets a clear expectation for the style of cuisine offered – fresh, homemade, and perhaps less reliant on the thick, often artificial sauces common in some American-Chinese takeout.

In addition to the food quality, the service at Golden Garden Chinese Restaurant is consistently praised. The reviewer notes that the service is always great and that the owners are friendly and personable, reinforcing the image of a true "mom and pop" establishment. This personal touch and commitment to customer service likely contribute to the restaurant's long history of fans and positive reviews.

However, a more recent review offers a contrasting perspective. This customer ordered the General Tso's Chicken and Sesame Chicken and found the texture of the chicken to be "weird" – spongy and flavorless. They also described the fried rice as having a strange texture and not meeting their expectations based on other reviews. This negative feedback raises concerns about the consistency of food quality and suggests that not all dishes may live up to the high standards described by the long-time patron. It is possible that preparation methods or ingredient quality may vary, or that different dishes are perceived differently by individual customers.

Considering both reviews, Golden Garden Chinese Restaurant appears to be a long-established, family-run takeout restaurant in Knoxville that has garnered a loyal following for its fresh, homemade-style American-Chinese cuisine. Their Hot and Sour Soup, Egg Drop Soup, Sweet and Sour Sauce, and Pad Thai are particularly praised for their quality and unique preparation. The friendly service and personable owners also contribute to a positive customer experience for many.

However, the recent negative review regarding the texture and flavor of the General Tso's Chicken and Sesame Chicken, as well as the fried rice, indicates a potential inconsistency in food quality or at least a divergence in customer expectations. Local users considering Golden Garden for takeout should be aware of both the long-standing positive reputation and the more recent negative feedback. It might be beneficial to try some of the dishes that have consistently received high praise, such as the soups and the Pad Thai, to experience the quality that the long-term reviewer describes.

For those in the Knoxville area seeking a Chinese takeout experience that emphasizes fresh, homemade-style cooking over the typically heavily sauced and processed options, Golden Garden Chinese Restaurant may be worth a try. The positive comments about the quality of their soups and sauces, as well as their exceptional Pad Thai, suggest a kitchen that pays attention to detail and uses fresh ingredients. While the recent negative review is a point of caution, the overall history and positive feedback from long-term customers indicate a restaurant with a strong foundation and a commitment to providing quality American-Chinese food. Local residents looking to support a "mom and pop" establishment with a reputation for friendly service and unique, fresh preparations might find Golden Garden to be a worthwhile option.

I have been ordering food from here for over 16+ years. The food is the best take out/american style Chinese food I've ever had. As I have described it to family and friends who have also become fans, is it is like standard Chinese take out, but done fresh, by hand, and with homemade style recipes/cooking. For instance the best hot and sour soup and egg drop soup around, where most restaurants are usually overly thick and artificially yellow, Golden Garden's has a nice and normal soup consistency, natural color, and doesn't tasted processed/generic. The sweet and sour sauce is thin, not gelatinous, and tastes like it is actually made with pineapple juice instead of premade. The best pad thai Knoxville TN, better than taste of Thai when they we're open or other places I've tried. If you're expectations are your standard overly thicken/gelatinous sauces, premade/processed panda express style take out than yeah you may be disappointed, but that because the food here is a high quality and well made take on familiar dishes. The service is always great. The owners are friendly and personable. This is a true mom and pop place that has a long history of fans and good reviews for a good reason.

Got the general tso and sesame chicken. Chicken was the weirdest texture- spongy and flavorless. Fried rice was also weirdly textured and not at all what we were hoping for based on other reviews

I walk in and order sesame chicken w shrimp fried rice... And the lady tells me it will cost me another entree price to add shrimp to my meal... This place is ridiculously priced for the food you get.. five stars my ass...13 dollars for some regular fried rice and a little bit of chicken... Will not return here...... Go if you feel you need too ..

This is only carry out which is fine. Very nice people work here. The food is subpar. We tried chicken fried rice, chicken chop suey, chicken lo mein and sweet and sour chicken. This was the weirdest, driest fried rice I’ve ever had. The other dishes were not great except the chicken chop suey was actually good. The sweet and sour chicken had a good taste but all the chicken was overcooked, except the chicken chop suey. We won’t be back but wish them good luck.
