About Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant

Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant, located at 2334 S King St, Honolulu, HI 96826, USA, is a Chinese restaurant that offers a range of traditional Chinese dishes to the local community. For inquiries or orders, you can reach them by phone at (808) 955-5080 or via mobile at +1 808-955-5080.

Environment and Atmosphere

The environment of Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant is described as being "dated," which often implies a classic, perhaps even nostalgic, ambiance rather than a modern or contemporary one. This kind of setting can appeal to those who appreciate a more traditional and unpretentious dining experience, reminiscent of long-established neighborhood eateries. The mention of "people were preparing the food at the table next to us" suggests a very open kitchen concept or an area where preparation might occur in close proximity to diners, which could be seen as either a unique, interactive element or a deviation from expected dining protocols, depending on individual preference. Despite being "dated," the overall sentiment from one reviewer regarding the food still being "great" suggests that the focus here is primarily on the culinary offerings rather than elaborate decor. This type of restaurant often has a loyal local following who value the food's quality and familiarity over aesthetics.

Services and Offerings

Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant provides services typical of a casual Chinese dining establishment. The "service was quick," indicating an efficient operation, particularly beneficial for those looking for a speedy meal. While specific menu details are not extensively provided, the mention of "scallops" and "mushroom" suggests a range of classic Chinese dishes. The reference to "plate lunches" which are common in local Hawaiian Chinese restaurants is very likely available. Customers would typically be able to dine in, and given the nature of Chinese restaurants in Honolulu, takeout services are almost certainly available, catering to both on-site diners and those who prefer to enjoy their food at home. The establishment aims to offer a "different" option for those looking to try something beyond their usual choices, providing variety within the local culinary landscape.

Features of the Cuisine

The cuisine at Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant appears to feature traditional Chinese flavors, with a focus on specific dishes like scallops and mushrooms. However, there are varying experiences with specific items. One customer noted that the "scallops were the bay scallop 'small' size, very little mushroom," and felt the "portion size seemed a bit small compared to the price." This indicates that while the dishes offered are classic, the execution and portioning can be a point of contention for some. Conversely, another reviewer enthusiastically stated, "The food and service were great... all in all it was great food." This disparity in feedback suggests that certain dishes might be more consistently well-received than others, or that individual preferences and expectations play a significant role. The restaurant aims to provide "great food," and despite some critiques on specific components, it generally delivers a satisfying Chinese meal experience, focusing on authentic flavors that resonate with those seeking traditional Chinese fare.

Promotional Information and Customer Experience

Given the provided reviews, the primary promotional aspects of Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant would revolve around its "quick service" and the perceived "great food" by some patrons. The fact that it was a "last minute selection to get something different" for a first-time visitor suggests it is a viable option for those exploring local dining choices. The contrasting feedback on portion sizes and specific ingredients (like the small bay scallops) provides an objective view, indicating that while some aspects might not meet all expectations, the overall dining experience, particularly the flavor of the food, can still be very positive. The restaurant's longevity and presence on South King Street likely mean it has a steady base of local customers who appreciate its offerings. For local users, Golden Eagle Chinese Restaurant can be positioned as a no-frills, traditional Chinese eatery offering quick service and generally good food, making it a convenient choice for a casual meal, especially if one is looking for a taste of classic Chinese cuisine in Honolulu. Customers should be prepared for a potentially dated interior and varying experiences with portion sizes for certain dishes, but can anticipate flavorful meals.

First time. Last minute selection to get something different. Service was quick. Unfortunately, the scallops were the bay scallop “small” size, very little mushroom, and the portion size seemed a bit small compared to the price.

The food and service were great, but the place was dated and the people were preparing the food at the table next to us. But all in all it was great food.

By the taste of it, Golden Eagle has a new owner or a new chef or both! I've been going to Golden Eagle off and on for well over 30 years and maybe even since they opened. Being Chinese, I judged Chinese restaurant pretty much solely by the quality of their food, and Golden Eagle has gone up and down as its changed ownership over the years. It started out good, then after some time when down, then up again a few years ago, and now, in 2025, it's up up 📈. Last week, I stopped by for traditional vegetarian e-mein to celebrate my mom on her 101st birthday, and it was the BEST e-mein I've had in Honolulu for a long time. The noodles were al dente, not broken, and cooked dry style with a delicate seasoning that brought out the flavors of the dish. Many local Cantonese restaurant drown their dishes in thick oyster sauce. Not Golden Eagle. Given the surprisingly deliciousness of the e-main, I went back last night to test my theory. That theory is looking less like conjecture and more like fact. I bought fried rice with salted fish and diced chicken (咸鱼鸡粒炒饭 haam4 jyu4-2 gai1 lap1 caau2 faan6) - again for my mom because it's her favorite, and it was perfect. Not too oily, tinged rice grains that easily separated, and they didn't skip on the salted fish. I also picked up their Hong Kong style chow mein, and I imagine it's exactly what you'd get in Hong Kong alongside your dim sum. So bit thumbs up! I definitely will go back to try other dishes like their scallion noodles, hot shoyu ginger chicken and dry style beef chow fun (so hard to get a good one!). And maybe I'll pick up a combination plate: Beef Broccoli, Sweet Sour Sparerib Ginger Chicken, Crispy Gau Gee Fried Rice. Can't go wrong with these! (I only do take-out at Golden Eagle, which is always fast. Definitely don't go there for the atmosphere.)

Hidden gem near Waikiki in my opinion. Came here with a group of 7 an hour before they close and we had the best service and really good food. Their menu is huge and filled with goodies that are super affordable compared to other places. On this night, we tried their wonton noodle soup (6.50$), and their Golden Eagle Special (39.99$) that comes with 4 entries and rice. The food was excellent and the Golden Eagle Special is a hit and highly recommended if you come with a large group. The portion size is spot on and flavor of each dish is just quality. I can't stop commenting on how great their service was. Our waitress or shall I say multiple waitresses were attentive and hands down provided the best service I've had in Hawaii. People needs to come here and try their food. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.
