About Golden Duck Restaurant

Welcome to Golden Duck Restaurant, a Chinese Restaurant situated at 1221 S King St in Honolulu, HI. Within the platform category of Chinese Restaurants, Golden Duck Restaurant distinguishes itself by offering what one reviewer describes as "old school Cantonese comfort food of the islands." This introduction aims to provide local users with a comprehensive understanding of what to expect from this establishment, based on the experiences shared by actual customers online.

Environment:

The environment of Golden Duck Restaurant appears to be a point of mixed feedback. One reviewer noted that the restaurant was "cramped," suggesting that the dining space might be somewhat limited or feel crowded, especially during busy periods. This is an important consideration for potential dine-in customers who prefer more spacious surroundings. However, despite the limited space, the restaurant seems to attract a "decent crowd of dine in and take out customers," indicating that the quality of food and service might outweigh the spatial constraints for many patrons.

Another significant environmental factor mentioned in the reviews is the parking situation. One customer explicitly stated, "there is little parking," referring to it as "junk parking." This suggests that finding a convenient parking spot near the restaurant could be challenging. Local users planning to drive to Golden Duck Restaurant should be prepared for potential difficulties in securing parking and might need to consider alternative parking options in the vicinity or plan their visit during less congested times.

Services:

Golden Duck Restaurant caters to its customers through multiple service options, as indicated by the customer reviews:

  • Dine-in: The presence of a "decent crowd of dine in" customers confirms that the restaurant offers on-site dining. Despite the mentioned cramped environment, many customers choose to eat their meals at the restaurant.
  • Takeout: The observation of "take out customers" indicates that Golden Duck Restaurant provides the option to order food for consumption off-premises. This is a convenient service for those who prefer to enjoy their Cantonese comfort food at home or elsewhere.

While not explicitly mentioned, it is reasonable to assume that standard restaurant service is provided for dine-in customers, including ordering at the table and assistance from waitstaff. One reviewer specifically mentioned that "the waiter was kind and fast," highlighting a positive aspect of their service experience.

Features (Menu and Food):

The primary feature of Golden Duck Restaurant is its "old school Cantonese comfort food." Based on the customer reviews, several dishes stand out:

  • Crispy Oyster Chicken Noodle: This dish received high praise, with one reviewer stating, "it was great!" and noting the "huge" serving size for the price of $11.95, suggesting it could easily feed two people. This highlights both the quality and the generous portions offered.
  • Shrimp Chips: These were described as "fabulous crunchy tasty and big," indicating a well-prepared and satisfying appetizer or side.
  • Lunch and Dinner Plates (Mixed Plate): One reviewer mentioned that the "Lunch and Dinner plates priced right for the quantity and selection for a mixed plate." This suggests that the restaurant offers value-for-money combination meals with a variety of options, appealing to those who want to sample different dishes.

The positive feedback, with one reviewer stating that the food was "the best Chinese food I’ve had since COVID," underscores the quality and authenticity of the Cantonese cuisine offered at Golden Duck Restaurant. Found the old school Cantonese comfort food of the islands. Food and service were surprisingly good. We will be back to have a larger party here. Lunch and Dinner plates priced right for the quantity and selection for a mixed plate. Decent crowd of dine in and take out customers.

I ordered the crispy oyster chicken noodle and it was great! The serving was huge. I paid $11.95 and the container could feed 2 people easy. I also purchased shrimp chips those were fabulous crunchy tasty and big. The waiter was kind and fast. I gave the 3 stars because the restaurant was cramped and there is little parking. That aside the food was the best Chinese food I’ve had since COVID. I will definitely be returning. The prices and the food definitely outweigh the cramped restaurant and junk parking!

The food here is amazing but the area is a little sketchy, the owner is very unwelcoming and almost seems like he doesn’t want you there won’t greet or take order even though he will continually walk by you , however their food is very delicious the duck is very succulent and tender and the rice is warm and sticky. Food prices very decent.

I can’t believe that a restaurant would serve something this awful. Tasteless. Spring rolls are unrecognizable as any I’ve ever had from HK to Vietnam to Indonesia. Garbage. The Gon Lo Mein is listed as a “local favorite”. Bland. A bunch of overcooked noodles, none longer than a couple inches. Such a disappointment.

I had the Golden Duck Plate $14.95. This was my first time here and it was pretty good. I've always seen this place and wanted to give it a try and I'm glad I did. Pictures of the menu follow.
