About Golden Dragon Restaurant

Nestled in the bustling heart of San Francisco's Chinatown at 822 Washington St, Golden Dragon Restaurant offers a quintessential Chinese dining experience. As a long-standing member of the Chinese Restaurant category in this vibrant neighborhood, Golden Dragon appears to be a local favorite, providing a familiar array of classic Chinese dishes in a distinctive setting. For those seeking a traditional Chinese meal in an atmosphere that transports them to "somewhere in Asia," Golden Dragon Restaurant is worth considering.

As a typical Chinese restaurant, Golden Dragon likely features a broad menu encompassing various regional Chinese cuisines, though the available reviews highlight specific dishes that customers have experienced. This suggests a diverse offering catering to different tastes and preferences. While the reviews provide insights into certain dishes, the overall impression is that Golden Dragon serves familiar and well-loved Chinese fare, making it a go-to spot for both locals and visitors seeking authentic flavors.

The environment of Golden Dragon Restaurant is described as having a "very golden decor," which contributes to an ambiance that "takes you a world away to somewhere in Asia." This suggests a traditional and perhaps ornate interior design, aiming to create an immersive cultural experience for diners. The unique décor likely adds to the restaurant's charm and makes it a memorable place to dine. The fact that it evokes a sense of being in Asia indicates an effort to create an authentic and visually distinct setting.

In terms of service, the feedback is generally positive. One reviewer noted being "seated immediately" and that the "food was brought out without much waiting," indicating efficient and prompt service. Another reviewer described the service as "good," suggesting a generally satisfactory experience with the staff. These comments point to a restaurant that values efficiency and ensures that diners are attended to in a timely manner.

A notable feature of Golden Dragon Restaurant, based on customer reviews, is the quality of specific dishes. The "Peking duck was excellent," according to one reviewer, highlighting it as a standout item on the menu. Peking duck is a classic and often signature dish in Chinese cuisine, known for its crispy skin and flavorful meat, and positive feedback suggests it is a must-try at Golden Dragon. Other dishes mentioned include the "sweet and sour pork," which was described as "just okay," and the "yang chow fried rice," which was rated as "good." These varied opinions indicate that while some dishes excel, others might be more standard.

Conversely, the "egg drop soup" was noted to be lacking in spices by one reviewer, suggesting that some dishes might not meet everyone's expectations in terms of flavor profile. This highlights the importance of individual preferences and the potential for variability in the preparation of different menu items. However, the overall sentiment regarding the food appears to be positive, with at least some dishes receiving high praise.

A point of contention raised by one reviewer is the practice of charging for tea "per person," noting that "most places offer it while you look through menu." This is a specific detail about the restaurant's service policy that some diners might find disappointing. It's worth noting for local users who are accustomed to complimentary tea at Chinese restaurants. The reviewer expressed hope that this policy might change in the future.

Currently, there is no explicit promotional information available in the provided reviews. However, the fact that Golden Dragon Restaurant "appears to be a local favorite" suggests a consistent quality and appeal that keeps customers returning. For local users in San Francisco, particularly those in or visiting Chinatown, the restaurant's established presence and positive feedback on dishes like the Peking duck serve as a strong recommendation. To inquire about any potential promotions or special offers, it would be advisable to contact the restaurant directly, although a phone number is not provided in the given information.

The location of Golden Dragon Restaurant in Chinatown is itself a significant feature. Chinatown in San Francisco is a vibrant and historic neighborhood known for its authentic Chinese restaurants and cultural significance. Dining at Golden Dragon offers not just a meal but also an opportunity to immerse oneself in this unique cultural enclave of the city. The easy accessibility within Chinatown makes it a convenient choice for both residents and tourists exploring the area.

In conclusion, Golden Dragon Restaurant offers a traditional Chinese dining experience in the heart of San Francisco's Chinatown. With a distinctive "golden decor" that creates an Asian ambiance and generally good service, it appears to be a well-regarded local establishment. While opinions on some dishes vary, the "excellent" Peking duck stands out as a highlight. Local users seeking a classic Chinese meal in an authentic setting should consider giving Golden Dragon Restaurant a try, keeping in mind the potential charge for tea.

It’s a typical Chinese restaurant. Food was good. The Peking duck was excellent. The sweet and sour pork was just okay. The yang chow fried rice was good. The egg drop soup lacks spices. We were seated immediately and the food was brought out without much waiting.

It appears to be a local favorite. When you walk in, it takes you a world away to somewhere in Asia. Decent food, good service, and very golden decor. A little disappointing that they charge tea per person when most places offer it while you look through menu. Give this place a try if you're in China town🥳. (Hope they will stop charging tea for its patrons soon🤞🏼)

Not fancy environment but great taste of food! Small group dinner, ordered 4 dishes. Roasted duck and fry rice are highly recommended! Mapo tofu and garlic stir fry vegetables were so so. A bit disappointed they serve tea bag instead of loose leaf tea. Generous portion and reasonably priced.

THE WORST SERVICE! Worst restaurant I have ever been to. The waiters DO NOT LISTEN TO YOU, they were taking our order without listening to us. I was in some kind of shock and just shut up. Then the waiter started to offer us food pointing to other tables and showing their food. Eventually we got our food which was ok, just ok. Lastly, they were trying to charge us extra $80 for some food that we dis not orhter and did not eat. Last straw was when they practically made us to leave a tip. I mean, I've never even heard of something like this. Besides, terribly noisy, we couldn't hear each other. The bathrooms.....ew! Spare you some nerves, don't go there, especially if you don't speak Chinese.
