About Golden Dragon
Golden Dragon, situated at 300 Main St in Nashua, New Hampshire, operates within the category of Chinese Restaurants but has received customer feedback indicating a strong emphasis on its bar service. According to some reviews from local users, Golden Dragon may function more akin to a "Chinese dive bar," where the drinks are notably strong, and the food service might be secondary to its primary identity as a bar. This characterization suggests that the ambiance and overall experience at Golden Dragon could differ significantly from that of a traditional Chinese restaurant.
One reviewer explicitly stated, "This isn't a Chinese restaurant. Its a Chinese dive bar. you know...the one where all the alcoholics go because the drinks are super strong." This candid assessment paints a picture of an establishment where the bar aspect is dominant and perhaps attracts a clientele primarily interested in alcoholic beverages. The reviewer further suggests that food might be served out of necessity for the bar's operation rather than being the primary focus of the business. This is a crucial point for local users specifically seeking a traditional Chinese dining experience, as Golden Dragon might not align with those expectations.
The same reviewer expressed a highly negative opinion of the food, specifically mentioning the General Tso's chicken. They described it as "chicken fingers dripping in generals sauce," implying a lack of quality and authenticity in the preparation of a common Chinese-American dish. The reviewer's disappointment was significant, stating they "cringe every time I drive by it" and even comparing the food unfavorably to fast-food chain Panda Express, which they themselves do not consider to be exceptional. This strong negative feedback on a signature dish should be a serious consideration for local users contemplating ordering food from Golden Dragon.
Another customer shared an experience involving slow service upon arrival. They reported waiting for approximately 10 minutes before being acknowledged by the staff. This delay occurred despite there being only two women working both the dining room and the full bar, suggesting that the staff may be understaffed or overworked, particularly during busy periods. While this reviewer noted that the two staff members were "extremely nice," the initial wait could be a deterrent for local users who value prompt service.
Regarding the food quality, this second reviewer described it as "not bad, but extremely greasy." This indicates that while the food might be palatable, the level of greasiness could be a concern for health-conscious individuals or those who prefer less oily dishes. The fact that two separate reviewers had negative comments about the food quality suggests a potential consistency issue in the kitchen.
On a more positive note, the second reviewer mentioned that the "portions were good." This could be an appealing factor for local users who prioritize getting a substantial amount of food for their money. However, the positive aspect of portion size might be overshadowed by concerns about the quality and preparation of the food itself.
A significant negative aspect highlighted by the second reviewer was the state of the restroom, which they described as "nasty." The cleanliness of restrooms is often considered an indicator of overall hygiene standards within a food establishment. A poorly maintained bathroom could raise concerns for local users about the general cleanliness of the restaurant.
Considering the two available reviews, Golden Dragon appears to present a mixed and somewhat concerning picture for those seeking a traditional Chinese restaurant experience. The primary identity seems to lean towards a bar with strong drinks, potentially at the expense of the food quality and service efficiency in the dining area. While the staff is noted to be nice, the slow initial service and the description of the food as low-quality and greasy are significant drawbacks. The positive aspect of good portion sizes is countered by the negative feedback on taste and preparation, as well as the concerning report about the cleanliness of the bathroom.
It is important for local users to weigh these factors carefully. If the primary interest is in a bar with strong drinks and a Chinese theme, Golden Dragon might be worth considering. However, for those specifically seeking a high-quality Chinese dining experience with attentive service and a clean environment, the available reviews suggest that Golden Dragon may not meet those expectations. The comparison to a "dive bar" and the negative remarks about the General Tso's chicken and the overall greasiness of the food are particularly noteworthy.
Given the limited and largely negative feedback regarding the food and environment, it is difficult to ascertain any positive features beyond the potential for strong drinks and possibly large portions. There is no mention of any specific promotional offers, popular dishes (other than the poorly reviewed General Tso's chicken), or unique aspects that might attract local users looking for a good Chinese meal.
Local users who are still considering visiting Golden Dragon might want to do so with tempered expectations, particularly regarding the food quality and the overall ambiance, which seems to be more bar-oriented. It might be prudent to inquire about specific dishes or perhaps visit during less busy hours to potentially receive more attentive service. However, the strong negative opinions expressed in the reviews should be taken seriously.
As there is no positive feedback regarding specific food items (other than the portion size being good in one instance) or any mention of a pleasant dining environment, it is challenging to recommend Golden Dragon as a go-to Chinese restaurant based solely on the provided information. The description as a "Chinese dive bar" and the criticisms of the food quality and cleanliness are significant red flags for those seeking a standard or high-quality Chinese dining experience.
In conclusion, Golden Dragon at 300 Main St in Nashua, NH, appears to be an establishment that functions more as a bar with a Chinese theme than a traditional Chinese restaurant focused on its cuisine. Reviews highlight strong drinks but criticize the food for being low quality and greasy. Service can be slow due to potential understaffing, although the staff is described as nice. The cleanliness of the bathroom is also a concern. While portions are reported to be good, this positive aspect may not outweigh the negative feedback on other critical aspects of a dining experience. Local users seeking an authentic and enjoyable Chinese meal may want to consider other options in the area.

This isn't a Chinese restaurant. Its a Chinese dive bar. you know...the one where all the alcoholics go because the drinks are super strong. I think they only serve food because they have too as a bar. I cant understand how this place ever gets above a two. I had the Generals and it was chicken fingers dripping in generals sauce. that's all. I ate what i could stand because i was hungry and didn't want the hassle of bringing it back since i took it to go. I cringe every time i drive by it. Panda express (fast food) is worlds better and cheaper with no attitude and PE isn't even all that great either.
We waited for about 10 mins before anyone noticed we were there. Only 2 women working dining room and full bar. They were both extremely nice, despite being overworked. Food was not bad, but extremely greasy. Portions were good. Bathroom was nasty.
The lady serving us was nice but the food was absolutely terrible. Rice taste like Clorox and the general tsauo chicken was just chicken fingers tossed in sauce. Disgusting. I threw all that stuff away. Food was not fresh. I only paid because I didn’t even want to deal with the hassle. But first and last time. If you see this review this is a FAIR wringing to not come !
Imagine ordering dinner for you and your 4 year old whose favorite food is Chinese Food. We get a Pu Pu Platter (for 2) as we do often when it’s just us two. And when you call back to complain about your order and ask for the owner the “manager” insist that the owner is busy but she’s the manager. She was rude, refused to give me the owner to speak to and threaten to call the cops if I came with my order which was cold and covered in some suspicious substance and told the delivery service driver it was the sauce from my bag when the only sauce she even gave me was duck sauce and fully intact because it was placed on top of my food in the bag. I don’t know since when places hires bartenders as managers but I remember when this place was family oriented. I wasted $36 on something my child couldn’t even eat. Oh my favorite part of the whole conversation was it’s just grease. Thank you Ashleigh for the “amazing” dining experience
I recently had the opportunity to dine at Golden Dragon, a Chinese food restaurant located in the heart of Nashua. While I have sampled some of the finest Chinese cuisine around the world, I was eager to see what this establishment had to offer. First impressions were a bit underwhelming as the atmosphere resembled that of a 1950s diner. However, the food quickly took center stage. The menu offered a wide variety of classic Chinese dishes, but unfortunately, they were only average in taste. While the flavors were not bad, they lacked the depth and complexity that I have come to expect from high-end Chinese restaurants. The service was also perfectly subpar, which actually enhanced the experience. I felt great assurance with their abundant police certificates hanging on the wall. The staff was friendly, but they lacked the attentiveness and precision of a top-notch establishment. Nonetheless, they were efficient and got the job done. Overall, Golden Dragon is a decent option for those looking for a quick and casual Chinese meal. However, if you are seeking an elevated dining experience, this may not be the best option. While the food was acceptable, it did not exceed my expectations. That being said, the restaurant's unpretentious vibe and decent food make it a solid option for a quick and satisfying meal. Their chicken fingers are fantastic though. Cheers! Y&J
