About Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant

Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant, situated at 2402 Hillsborough St in Raleigh, North Carolina (NC 27607, USA), offers a diverse range of Chinese cuisine for local residents and visitors. Based on recent customer feedback, this establishment is gaining recognition for its flavorful dishes, generous portions, and the notable effort of making certain items, such as their dumplings, in-house. While specific details about the dine-in environment are limited as the reviews primarily focus on takeout and delivery experiences, the positive comments on the food quality and service suggest a promising option for those seeking satisfying Chinese fare.

One first-time customer who utilized DoorDash for delivery reported a highly positive experience. They noted that their order arrived promptly and securely, with no spills despite including liquid-based dishes. This speaks to the restaurant's care in packaging for delivery. The reviewer was particularly impressed with the taste and quality of several items, including the "big and plump" shrimp rolls, the Shrimp Hunan which contained a generous amount of medium-sized shrimp and the perfect level of spiciness for their preference (and was ample for two to share), and the House Lo Mein, which they described as being "FULL of meat and shrimp." The Sweet and Sour Chicken was also highlighted for its substantial quantity, enough to serve four people. The only minor critique was regarding the fried noodles, which were described as light in color and somewhat scarce in quantity, a small detail in an otherwise excellent order. This positive initial experience led the customer to declare that they had likely found their new favorite Chinese restaurant and would definitely order again.

Another customer specifically chose Golden Dragon based on a recommendation and the appealing prospect of homemade dumplings. This reviewer confirmed that the fried dumplings they ordered were indeed homemade, noting the juicy meat filling with a distinctly sweet rather than predominantly savory flavor. While the sweetness was unexpected, it was not entirely unpleasant. This appreciation for in-house preparation is a significant feature for diners who prioritize freshness and quality over mass-produced options.

In addition to the dumplings, this customer also ordered a special dinner combo featuring chicken with broccoli, opting for lo mein as a side instead of rice for an extra charge. The chicken with broccoli was deemed good, although the reviewer noted a preference for a darker, more savory brown sauce compared to the light brown sauce used. However, the chicken and broccoli were cooked to their liking, and the dish was served hot and tasty. The lo mein noodles were described as "delicious" and "fantastic," indicating another strong point in their menu. The combo also included an egg roll, which was described as "pretty bland," suggesting some variability in the quality of different menu items. Despite this minor disappointment, the reviewer felt that the overall price paid was worth the amount of food received and expressed satisfaction in supporting a local business.

The emphasis on making items like dumplings in-house is a significant feature of Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant. In a market often saturated with restaurants using pre-made frozen ingredients, this commitment to preparing certain dishes from scratch suggests a dedication to quality and a desire to offer a more authentic and flavorful experience. This could be a major draw for discerning customers who value homemade food.

The generous portion sizes mentioned in both reviews are another notable characteristic. Customers seem to receive substantial amounts of food, making it a potentially economical option, especially for families or those looking to have leftovers. This value for money, combined with the generally positive feedback on taste, makes Golden Dragon an attractive choice.

While specific promotional information was not mentioned in the provided reviews, the positive experiences shared by customers act as a form of organic promotion. The high recommendation from a first-time customer and the repeat business implied by the second reviewer's desire to support a local business speak volumes about the potential quality and satisfaction offered by Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant.

The positive feedback on dishes like the shrimp rolls, Shrimp Hunan, House Lo Mein, and the homemade fried dumplings, coupled with efficient delivery service and friendly staff (as implied by the positive takeout experience), suggests a restaurant that prioritizes customer satisfaction. While there was a minor critique regarding the fried noodles and the egg roll, the overall sentiment is positive, with customers expressing their intent to return. The commitment to making items like dumplings in-house is a significant feature that distinguishes Golden Dragon and is likely to appeal to those seeking a higher level of freshness and quality in their Chinese takeout experience. Local users looking for a new go-to Chinese spot in Raleigh should certainly consider giving Golden Dragon Chinese Restaurant a try.

Ordered for the first time and had it delivered by door dash. The food arrived on time and nothing was spilled. (We had a few liquids.) Everything was delicious. Shrimp rolls were big and plump. Shrimp Hunan had medium size shrimp and plenty for two to share and was the right amount of spicy we asked for. House lo mein was FULL of meat and shrimp. Sweet and sour chicken was enough for 4! The only thing that could have been better was the little bag of fried noodles. They are one of my favorite things. They were very light in color so could have been cooked a little longer and there was hardly any in the bag. I think we’ve found our new Chinese place! Definitely order again.

I came here and ordered takeout because I heard it was good, and it looked like they make their dumplings in-house which is very important to me. I'm getting tired of places using manufactured frozen dumplings. They all taste the same and it's not worth the money. So when I went in to order, I asked the person taking my order if the dumplings are made in-house. I was informed that a lot of their items are made in-house, which I was pleased with. I ordered an order of fried dumplings, and then I got a special dinner combo of chicken with broccoli, and I paid extra to have lo mein as the side instead of rice. The special dinner combo also comes with an egg roll. I realized that I ordered a lot of food, but I had been craving good Chinese takeout, and I could make the food stretch for multiple meals. The fried dumplings were definitely homemade. The meat inside was very juicy and had an interesting taste to it. It was more sweet than savory, which was interesting, but not completely a terrible thing. The chicken with broccoli was good, but had a light brown sauce instead of a dark brown sauce that I like. The dark brown sauces tend to be more flavorful and savory. The chicken and broccoli were cooked to my liking, though, and the food was hot and tasty. The lo mein noodles were delicious and tasted fantastic. The egg roll was pretty bland. Overall, the price I paid for the food and the amount of food I got was worth it. I'm always happy to support a local business, too.

Great service. Kind people. The food, not so good. Orange Chicken and General Tso's chicken were both super tough, like they were pre-cooked in bulk, then reheated for each order.

5/23 I had a good experience here but I'm actuallly surprised by the negative reviews. Food seemed like any other typical chinese fast food. My General Tso's was great. There was no complaints from my family. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. We were the only customers there so maybe that's why we had a great experience? I'm not sure if I would give them another try. Atmosphere was lacking so not very memorable.
