About Golden China Restaurant

Golden China Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant located at 2478 S Walnut St, Bloomington, IN 47401, USA. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Golden China Restaurant offers a variety of Chinese dishes, primarily focusing on takeout services based on recent reviews. They can be contacted at (812) 335-9688 or via their mobile number, +1 812-335-9688.

Based on recent customer feedback, Golden China Restaurant presents a somewhat varied experience, with some dishes receiving positive reviews while others have areas for improvement. The restaurant is noted for its affordability and generous portions, particularly for takeout orders. Local users considering Golden China should take into account the specific dishes mentioned and the overall sentiments expressed by recent diners.

One reviewer highlighted the affordability of Golden China, mentioning it as "cheap with lots of leftovers for later," suggesting good value for the price. Among the dishes sampled, the beef with broccoli was praised for having tender beef and being generally good. The seaweed salad was also noted as "excellent after thawing," but the reviewer expressed disappointment that it was served as a "huge block of ice," indicating a potential issue with preparation or storage for this particular item. For children, the French fries were considered a great deal, with a "huge bag" available for a low price of $2.50.

However, the same reviewer had mixed feedback on other dishes. The orange chicken was described as having "great flavor" but seemed "overcooked at the ends," suggesting inconsistency in cooking. The Szechuan chicken was rated as "average," and despite ordering the "highest spicy level," the reviewer found it to have "no heat." They also expressed a preference for white rice instead of the fried rice that came with the dish. On a more positive note, the wonton soup was said to have "great flavor," while the egg roll was described as "crispy but way too greasy." This detailed review provides a nuanced perspective on various items on the menu, indicating that some dishes are hits while others may not meet all expectations.

Another reviewer with experience of Golden China mentioned that it offers "very good Chinese take-out!" This positive statement suggests that their takeout service is generally reliable and satisfying. They also brought up the buffet that Golden China used to have, noting that it was also good. However, they were uncertain if the buffet had reopened following a closure due to Covid-19, which had persisted for years and was still the case the last time they checked. This indicates that while Golden China may have been known for its buffet in the past, it is currently primarily operating as a takeout restaurant, and the status of the buffet remains uncertain.

Based on the available reviews, information about the environment of Golden China Restaurant is limited. One reviewer mentioned dining in the past when the buffet was operational, but there are no specific details about the current dine-in atmosphere or the setup for takeout customers. The focus of the feedback is primarily on the quality and value of the food for takeout.

The services offered by Golden China Restaurant clearly include takeout, which has been positively reviewed. The mention of a former buffet suggests that dine-in service was also available at one point, but its current status is unconfirmed. The efficiency and friendliness of the service are not explicitly commented upon in these reviews, but the focus on takeout implies a system geared towards quick and convenient order fulfillment.

Features of Golden China Restaurant include its affordability ("cheap") and generous portion sizes ("lots of leftovers," "huge bag of French fries"). Some dishes, like the beef with broccoli and seaweed salad (after thawing), are noted for their good quality and taste. The wonton soup also received positive feedback for its flavor. However, there are inconsistencies, with the orange chicken being potentially overcooked and the Szechuan chicken being average and lacking spiciness. The egg rolls, while crispy, were considered too greasy. The uncertainty surrounding the reopening of the buffet is also a notable point for customers who may have enjoyed that option in the past.

Promotional information is not explicitly mentioned in the provided customer reviews. Local users interested in any special offers, discounts, or family meal deals at Golden China Restaurant would need to contact the restaurant directly or check any online platforms they might use for advertising. The former buffet itself could have been considered a promotional aspect, offering a wide variety of dishes at a set price, but its current unavailability means it cannot be considered a current promotion.

In conclusion, Golden China Restaurant in Bloomington offers affordable Chinese takeout with generous portions, making it a potentially budget-friendly option for local users. While some dishes, such as the beef with broccoli and wonton soup, receive positive feedback for taste and quality, others like the orange chicken and Szechuan chicken have received mixed reviews. The seaweed salad preparation (being frozen) and the greasiness of the egg rolls are also points to consider. The restaurant previously had a buffet that was well-regarded, but its current status is unknown. For local users looking for a cost-effective Chinese takeout option in Bloomington, Golden China Restaurant may be worth considering, keeping in mind the varied experiences reported by recent customers.

Cheap with lots of leftovers for later. The beef with broccoli was good with tender beef. The seaweed salad was excellent after thawing. I was disappointed it came as a huge block of ice. I ordered my kids the French fries which came in a huge bag for only $2.50. The orange chicken had great flavor but seemed overcooked at the ends. The Szechuan chicken was average. I ordered the highest spicy level and there was no heat to it. I also wish it came with white rice as opposed to fried. The wonton soup had great flavor. The egg roll was crispy but way too greasy.

Very good Chinese take-out! The buffet used to be as well but I don’t know if it’s reopened yet or not (it was closed as a result of Covid and remained so for years afterward - and still was, the last time I checked anyway).

I am actually blown away by how good all of their food is. I've had their General Tso's. I've also had their moo goo gai pan and it's absolutely delicious! You can't beat their prices either for the amount of food you get. Thank you for having such a great Chinese restaurant!

I ordered beef and broccoli. The beef still had marks from where the jockey was hitting it. Boneless spareribs, be easier gnawing on the bone. My first and last time.
