About Golden China Restaurant

Welcome to Golden China Restaurant, a Chinese restaurant located at 139 City Smitty Dr in St. Marys, Georgia. As a local establishment within the Chinese Restaurant category, Golden China Restaurant offers a range of Chinese dishes for both dine-in and takeout customers. The available reviews online present a contrasting view of the restaurant, with one customer highlighting positive aspects while another details a significantly negative experience. This introduction aims to provide an objective overview based on the feedback from real customers to help local users make informed decisions.

Regarding the environment of Golden China Restaurant, one reviewer noted that there were "not a lot of people at the time that I went," which they personally found to be a positive aspect. This suggests that during certain times, the restaurant might offer a quieter dining atmosphere. The same reviewer also mentioned that "There’s a lot of parking," which is a significant convenience for customers planning to dine in with friends and family, indicating accessibility and ease of arrival.

However, a more detailed review paints a concerning picture of the restaurant's cleanliness. This customer, who placed an online order for pickup, arrived to find "dirty tables, dirty floors, and dairy products being left on the counter." These observations raise significant concerns about the hygiene and maintenance of the dining area, which could impact the overall customer experience and perception of the restaurant's standards.

The service at Golden China Restaurant also received mixed feedback. The customer who enjoyed the quieter atmosphere did not explicitly comment on the service provided during their visit. In contrast, the customer with the negative experience detailed a prolonged wait time for their prepaid online order. Despite arriving nine minutes after the stated pickup time and observing at least five other customers receive their orders and leave, they waited approximately 45 minutes for their food. The interaction upon receiving their order was described as being "plainly asked 'Who are you?' and being handed my food unceremoniously to leave." This account suggests a lack of attentiveness and professionalism in handling takeout orders, particularly when delays occur.

In terms of food quality, the reviews present starkly different opinions. One reviewer mentioned that the food, despite a "limited selection," had a "great taste." This suggests that while the variety of dishes might not be extensive, the quality of the available options can be satisfactory for some customers. However, the other detailed review paints a very negative picture of the food itself. The customer described their $60+ order as "TERRIBLE." Specific issues were raised with multiple dishes: the sesame chicken was "overcooked" with a "stringy, gristled, texture," the lo mein was "bland and undercooked," and the sweet and sour chicken was described as "close to burnt, dry, and cold." This extremely negative feedback indicates significant problems with the preparation and quality of the food on at least one occasion, leading the customer to vow never to return and to advise others to seek Chinese food elsewhere in St. Marys.

The feature of "limited selection" mentioned by one reviewer could be a point of consideration for potential customers. While the taste of the available dishes was reported as great by this individual, those looking for a wider variety of options might find the menu less appealing. The ample parking, on the other hand, is a definite advantage for those planning to visit the restaurant in person, especially during peak hours or when dining with a group.

In conclusion, Golden China Restaurant in St. Marys, GA, offers Chinese cuisine with dine-in and takeout options. Reviews indicate ample parking and, for some, a quieter dining atmosphere with food that can have a great taste despite a limited selection. However, a significant negative review raises serious concerns about cleanliness, prolonged wait times for online orders, and severely poor food quality across multiple dishes. Potential local users should carefully consider this contrasting feedback and perhaps inquire directly with the restaurant before making a decision. There is a limited selection on the food but has a great taste. Not a lot of people at the time that I went but that’s good for me! There’s a lot of parking so you know you can always go with your friends and family.

I placed my order online and was told my order would be available for pickup at 6:01 p.m. When I arrived at 6:10 p.m. to dirty tables, dirty floors, and dairy products being left on the counter, and paid $60+ for my four meals I was told it would be a short wait. I waited approximately 45 minutes for my food with no less than five people receiving their order and leaving before I was plainly asked "Who are you?" and being handed my food unceremoniously to leave. The food was TERRIBLE. The sesame chicken was overcooked and every piece was a stringy, gristled, texture. I gave up after trying half of every piece of "chicken" in my styrofoam container. The lo mein was bland and undercooked. The sweet and sour chicken was close to burnt, dry, and cold.(How?!?). This was the worst experience I've had at a food establishment in St.Marys EVER. While I eat Chinese 2-3 times a month, I will be sure to drive literally anywhere else.

The first red flag was being told to only sign my name on the receipt and to leave the tip and total sections blank because I placed the order online and I already factored in the tip. Note: when you place an order online, you cannot pay online. You only get the option to pay via cash or pay with card in store when you go to pick up the food. The second red flag was the receipt total I got in my email after placing my order did not match what they charged when I came to pick up my food. Their answer was basically "yeah, our online prices can be different." Granted, it was only about $2 more, but that's still not ok to do. The third red flag was the food quality. I'm pretty sure the dinner I received was just leftovers from the lunch buffet. The chicken was extremely dry, the lo mein had absolutely no flavor, and the wontons were very hard in some parts while chewy in others. Now don't get me wrong, I like eating at Chinese buffets every once in a while, but when my meal is double the cost of a buffet and it's the same exact food just aged an extra few hours, then we have a problem. Needless to say, I won't be returning to this establishment. Unfortunately they were the only Chinese restaurant opened on Monday. But, just like how we can't get Chick-fil-A on Sundays, we probably shouldn't get Chinese on Mondays.

Better than other places. The girl at the front, also seems to almost be the only employee, is a nice friendly face. The food itself is great, served hot and with a smile. I've visited here and other local restaurants but this is the spot for Chinese food. It's close to the movie theater so you can have a quick bite after a movie. I am most impressed by the customer service. Not only are they getting orders for delivery and pickup but they take care of everyone with the same manner. It is difficult to find a place with good customer service and good food. I did edit this review. I felt that I needed to try various menu items including appetizers. I'm am satisfied and would recommend Golden China to locals, visitors, and our military service members nearby. I will recommend sesame balls ... I think that what they are called. Try them you will not be disappointed. Enjoy!

Bare minimum on variety. Bathrooms are in poor sanitation. The soy sauce bottles on the table looks like they haven't been washed in 12 years. Food is adequate at best. Several empty pans on a Friday at 12:11pm. I won't be back here. Hope they get better.
