About Golden Chen

Golden Chen is a Chinese restaurant located at 4530 Eastgate Blvd in Cincinnati, Ohio. Operating under the platform category of "Chinese Restaurant," it appears to offer services including takeout and delivery (as indicated by an Uber Eats order), and the initial positive impression of a clean establishment suggests potential dine-in options as well. However, recent customer reviews paint a concerning and inconsistent picture of the dining experience at Golden Chen, indicating significant issues with food quality, order accuracy, and customer service that potential local users should be aware of.

Several reviews express extreme dissatisfaction. One reviewer stated they "Would give zero stars if possible. Very disappointed," without elaborating further, this strong negative sentiment serves as an immediate red flag. Another customer, new to Cincinnati and having tried multiple Chinese restaurants with no success, had high hopes for Golden Chen based on research and recommendations, only to be severely let down. This individual ordered for pickup and, despite finding the staff nice and the place clean, discovered a "giant black hair" in their food upon arriving home, leading to immediate disgust and disposal of the meal. This is a serious hygiene concern that potential customers should consider.

Adding to this negative experience, the same customer reported an order error, having specifically requested no mushrooms but finding "a lot of large mushroom pieces" in their dish. Their boyfriend's experience with the fried rice being "alright" and a "not good" spring roll further contributed to their disappointment. The subsequent complaint call regarding the hair in the mixed vegetables was met with a dismissive "sorry for the mix up," which the customer understandably found inadequate given the severity of the issue. The resolution offered was a refund only for the mixed vegetables, with a $12 charge incurred after the credit card refund. This customer's overall experience was so negative that it led them to declare they would no longer eat Chinese food in Ohio.

Another review echoes concerns about food quality and order accuracy. This customer mentioned that while "normally the flavor is very nice," their order on a specific date had "close to no flavor," the combination lo mein was "VERY LOW on the meats," and the egg rolls were missing. The reviewer also noted the unusual absence of a typical "Chinese" food smell emanating from the kitchen during a visit by their sister. While acknowledging that their past experiences had been "on point," they speculated about a possible new chef or oversight, indicating inconsistency in the restaurant's standards.

Further highlighting the inconsistency, another customer reported "Good size portions" but found that the food "tastes like water down seasoning when it arrived." They had to add their own flavor to make it palatable, indicating a significant deficiency in the seasoning provided by the restaurant. Despite being hungry, they found it "not an easy fix," suggesting a substantial lack of flavor upon arrival.

Conversely, one positive aspect mentioned in the reviews is the delivery service via Uber Eats. One customer reported their order arriving "hot and delivered with care," suggesting that the restaurant, or at least its delivery partners, handle the transportation of food reasonably well. This positive note, however, is overshadowed by the more significant concerns regarding food quality and hygiene.

The fact that one customer received a credit from Uber for a missing egg roll indicates that order inaccuracies are not isolated incidents. This reinforces the concern about the reliability of order fulfillment, whether for pickup or delivery.

In summary, the recent customer reviews for Golden Chen Chinese Restaurant in Cincinnati present a concerning picture of inconsistency and potential issues. While one positive mention exists regarding careful delivery via Uber Eats, the overwhelming feedback highlights significant problems with food quality (lack of flavor, wrong ingredients), hygiene (hair found in food), and customer service (dismissive response to serious complaints, questionable refund policy, missing items). The stark contrast between a past "normally on point" experience and recent negative ones suggests a potential decline or inconsistency in the restaurant's standards.

Potential local users considering Golden Chen should carefully weigh these recent experiences. While the establishment may have had positive aspects in the past, the current feedback raises serious concerns about the reliability and quality of their food and service. The reported hygiene issue is particularly alarming and should not be taken lightly. Given the prevalence of negative reviews citing significant problems, it would be prudent for potential customers to exercise caution and perhaps consider other Chinese restaurants in the Cincinnati area with more consistently positive recent feedback. There is no information available in these reviews regarding any promotional offers from Golden Chen.

Would give zero stars if possible. Very disappointed. Have yet to have a decent Chinese experience in Cincinnati. (Moved here 6 months ago) I’ve now given up hope. I did a bunch of research reading reviews and trying to find a decent Chinese place. Golden Chen was highly recommended. Was very excited to try it today. Called in and placed order for pickup. Got there, people were nice and place looked clean. I was optimistic. Got home and went to put my food on a plate and found a giant black hair. I was disgusted and threw it away. Also, I asked for no mushrooms and there were a lot of large mushroom pieces. My boyfriend ate the fried rice and one of the spring rolls. Fried rice was alright and spring roll was not good. When he called to complain about the hair in the mixed veggies, he was told “sorry for the mix up” THE MIX UP?!?! We asked for a refund and were told only the mixed veggies can be refunded. They refunded cc and charged $12. Will not be eating any more Chinese in Ohio. This was the last straw.

Normally the flavor is very nice but the order I received on 11/15/23 had close to no flavor, combination lo mein also VERY LOW on the meats, and missed the egg rolls. The kitchen did not even smell “like Chinese” when my sister came by! Again, normally it is on point, maybe there is a new chef or they “forgot” . Good size portions but we had to flavor it up. It tastes like water down seasoning when it arrived. It was not an easy fix but we were hungry as we are heading out and wanted to eat! Ordered via Uber Eats. It was hot and delivered with care. I did get a credit from Uber for the egg roll.

Great friendly service, less expensive Chinese food that tastes amazing. Very clean and organized restaurant. Plenty of options to choose from and the only Chinese restaurant I go to!
