About Golden chef express
For local residents in Norman, Oklahoma, seeking a reliable and delicious option for Chinese takeout, Golden Chef Express, located at 621 12th Ave NE #140, Norman, OK 73071, USA, is quickly establishing itself as a top choice. Based on recent customer reviews, this Chinese restaurant offers a convenient ordering process, generous portion sizes, and a variety of well-prepared dishes that are earning high praise from the community.
Golden Chef Express appears to excel in providing a quintessential Chinese takeout experience. Customers have specifically highlighted the ease of ordering from their menu, suggesting a straightforward and user-friendly system. This is a crucial aspect for takeout service, where convenience is paramount. Coupled with the mention of "generous portions," Golden Chef Express seems to offer good value for money, ensuring that customers receive a satisfying amount of food with their orders.
The quality of the individual dishes has also been a significant point of positive feedback. The beef and broccoli, a classic Chinese-American dish, was described as "tender and juicy, not slimy," indicating a focus on proper cooking techniques and ingredient quality. This addresses a common concern with this dish, where the beef can sometimes suffer from an undesirable texture. The positive review suggests that Golden Chef Express prepares their beef and broccoli to a high standard.
Another standout dish, the sweet and sour chicken, received accolades for using "real bites of chicken" rather than being predominantly "puffy doughballs," a common pitfall in many versions of this popular item. This emphasis on substantial chicken pieces suggests a commitment to providing a more satisfying and less processed take on sweet and sour chicken.
The crispy chicken, which comes with an included sauce, was also noted as "very tasty and snackable." This suggests a well-executed crispy texture and a flavorful sauce that complements the chicken, making it an enjoyable option for a quick bite or as part of a larger meal.
Overall, one satisfied customer expressed being "pleased" to have found their "new favorite Chinese food place" after trying Golden Chef Express. This strong endorsement speaks volumes about the positive impression the restaurant has made on its early patrons.
Another reviewer echoed the sentiment of Golden Chef Express being a "great" find, especially noting the limited options for good Chinese food in the area. Their excitement about the opening of this restaurant underscores the potential demand for quality Chinese cuisine in Norman. They particularly appreciated the customizable meal options, where customers can choose their side and one to two entrees depending on whether they opt for a bowl or a plate. This flexibility allows diners to tailor their meals to their preferences and appetite.
The orange chicken was highlighted as a personal favorite by this reviewer, indicating that Golden Chef Express also excels in this popular dish. Additionally, the cream cheese wontons and sweet and sour sauce were praised as being "really great," suggesting that their appetizer and sauce offerings are also of high quality.
The reviewer also mentioned the inclusion of fried noodles with the hot and sour soup, expressing surprise as they felt that many places no longer include this traditional accompaniment. This attention to detail and the inclusion of familiar elements can enhance the overall dining experience for those who appreciate these traditional touches.
While this customer was too full to try the hot and sour soup and the dumplings, their positive experience with other dishes led them to express confidence that these items would also be great. This speaks to a general trust in the quality of Golden Chef Express's entire menu.
A significant promotional offer was also mentioned: customers who spend $25 or more receive free fried chicken bites, which are described as "pretty awesome" and come with a Yum Yum sauce for dipping. This added incentive provides extra value for customers and encourages larger orders. The positive description of the free item suggests that it is not just a throwaway offering but a worthwhile bonus.
The staff at Golden Chef Express are described as "very friendly," which is a crucial component of a positive customer experience, even for takeout. Friendly service can make the ordering and pickup process more pleasant and contribute to customer satisfaction and repeat business.
The enthusiastic reviewer concluded by strongly recommending that others try Golden Chef Express, expressing "no doubts" about its quality and predicting that it will become many customers' "new favorite Chinese Restaurant!!!"

This is the perfect Chinese take out restaurant. Easy to order menu + generous portions. The beef & broccoli was tender and juicy, not slimy. I was so happy that the sweet & sour chicken had real bites of chicken and were not puffy doughballs. The crispy chicken w/ included sauce is very tasty and snackable. Overall, I am pleased to have found my new favorite Chinese food place. Thank you to the owners who made my food.
This place is great! It’s hard to find good Chinese and definitely slim pickings on restaurants in this area. I’m very excited that this place has opened. I love that you can pick your side and 1-2 entrees pending if you get a bowl or plate. My fav was the orange chicken. Cream cheese wontons and sweet and sour sauce were really great. I got too full to try the hot and sour soup(which came with the fried noodles🤗feel like places never have them anymore) and the dumplings but I’m sure they will be great. If you spend $25 you get free fried chicken bites, which are pretty awesome, comes with Yum Yum sauce to dip in. I highly recommend to try this place. I have no doubts. The staff was very friendly. This will be your new favorite Chinese Restaurant!!!
I want to leave a thorough, honest, UNincentivized review because I decided to try this place on a whim and was completely surprised with how good it was. The short version: TRY IT! Especially if you've ever asked yourself what Panda Express would taste like if it was made by/intended to be authentic Chinese. The one key difference is (unlike Panda) this place prepares everything fresh when ordered. That alone was worth it for me. And for the frugal diners, they offer buy one entree get one 50% off all day on Sundays! The long version: The menu is VERY similar to Panda, with many of the same entrees, sides, and appetizers. The pricing and plating structure is also a virtual carbon copy. This also means the menu is limited just like Panda. That said, in my opinion the taste of the food is NOT like Panda, it's better (I personally prefer more authentic Chinese cuisine, which typically almost every other restaurant in OK can't seem to do correctly due to subpar preparation/ingredients/food quality). Here, the quality of the food and presentation was great. The orange chicken actually has noticeable real orange flavor. My wife and I each ordered a Super Plate and strategically ordered all unique items to maximize the sampling of the food. NOTHING was bad. Our least favorite item was the fried rice, but that said I'd order it again if I was craving it. It really wasn't bad. Our favorite items were the lo mein, along with the black pepper chicken, orange chicken, and the pepper steak. The "Cheese Wonton" appetizer had 6 large wontons and DID have crab in them. Not the best I've had, but definitely above average, well worth it's price, and I will be ordering it again. And for those questioning portion size, I'm a 34 year old mechanic who can definitely eat a lot if I'm hungry. A Super Plate filled me up with enough left to easily make another full meal, and the same applied for my wife. So for the $25 we paid including the wontons (Sunday BOGO 50% deal), we'll get four full meals out of it. Not a bad deal at all! All in all, I definitely recommend this place. I do caution that if you want a not-so-common authentic dish, this isn't your place. But for the mainstream staples, Panda fans (to be clear, I like Panda's general concept, but I am not a Panda fan), and those who want a more authentic (and guaranteed freshly prepared) spin on Panda, definitely give this place a try. I attached the single page front/back menu photos since nobody else posted that yet.
Ordered the family meal tonight with cheese wontons and an egg roll. This will be our new Chinese place!!!! Finally a good one on the east side!!! Super nice, great service. Food is just amazing. This will be our weekly go to now!!!
I don’t ever leave reviews, but this place deserved one. I placed a call in order, and it was ready in 15 minutes. The inside of the restaurant was clean. The food was delicious and the portions were huge. 3 plates fed 4 adults, and a kid with leftovers. This place is the best takeout Chinese food in Norman. It seems they’re mimicking Panda Express with their menu. Prices are very similar to Panda but you get twice the food and it’s honestly better.
