About 醉月軒 Ginger And Onion Cuisine

醉月軒 Ginger And Onion Cuisine, located at 240 Alton Towers Cir A7 in Scarborough, is a Chinese restaurant specializing in authentic Cantonese cuisine, particularly their dim sum offerings. According to customer reviews, the food is delicious, and the dim sum portions are considered larger than usual.

The restaurant is known for its attentive service. Waiters and waitresses are proactive in checking on tables, clearing empty dim sum boxes, and refilling hot water and tea. They are also transparent about the restaurant's policies, such as the automatic 12% tip surcharge that is added to the bill.

醉月軒 offers Early Bird Specials for cash-paying customers during specific times: Mondays to Fridays before 11:30 AM, Mondays to Fridays from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, and Saturdays and Sundays before 11:00 AM. Additionally, there is a charge of $2.50 per person for tea, and takeout containers incur a fee of $0.30 each.

The staff at 醉月軒 are able to converse in both Chinese and English, catering to a diverse clientele. The restaurant itself is described as not too large, which can lead to waiting times for a table during busy periods. It is situated in a plaza near a supermarket and a medical building, which may make parking challenging during peak hours, although disabled parking spots are located closer to the supermarket.

One potential accessibility issue noted by a customer is the absence of a push or wave button to open the double doors at the entrance, which could pose a challenge for individuals with mobility issues. Another point of feedback is the suggestion for greater transparency regarding the takeout container surcharge, recommending it be clearly stated on the menu rather than only appearing on the bill.

Despite these minor points, 醉月軒 Ginger And Onion Cuisine is praised for its friendly servers, intimate atmosphere (not feeling like a large banquet hall), and overall enjoyable dining experience, especially for those seeking authentic Cantonese dim sum with generous portions.

Ginger and Onion cuisine specializes in Cantonese Chinese Cuisine. We came here during dim sum. Early Bird Specials - CASH only. Mondays to Fridays before 11:30AM. Mondays to Fridays from 1:30 to 3:30PM. Saturdays and Sundays before 11:00AM. Tea per person is $2.50 each. Takeout container is $0.30 each. 12% tip surcharge automatically added to your bill. The waiter and waitress are attentive. They checked on our table constantly. They take our empty dim sum boxes away, fill up our hot water and tea pot at least once during our time there. We were taken care of. The waitress even mentioned about the 12% tip surcharge on our bill which we acknowledged. They can converse in Chinese and in English. Food was delicious. The dim sum portions were considered larger in size. The restaurant in overall is not too huge, so if they do get busy, one would have to wait for a table. It’s located in a plaza close to a supermarket and a medical building. So finding a parking spot could be challenging during peak hours. The disabled parking spots are located closer to the supermarket. There’s no push button or wave button to open the double doors upon entering the establishment. So people with mobility issues would find it a challenge to open those doors. The only thing they can improve is letting their customers know about their takeout container surcharge ahead of time. Especially when it is not a common practice amongst their competitors. Have something written or printed on their Menu would be best. Don’t try to hide it on your bill. Translate it properly in English. Your English speaking customers would appreciate the transparency.

Had been seeing this place on my instagram feed a few times lately and since it’s so close to my home, thought let’s try it out! Server was very friendly. Honestly much more engaging than others at competing establishments in the area. I forgot to take more/better pictures but here is pictured one of my favourite menu items when I eat dim sum. The cute little detail to make it look like a pear was amusing in the greatest way. The more intimate size of the restaurant was nice, didn’t feel like I was lost as a tiny speck in a banquet hall. Yes tip was added automatically, but the server was sure to point it out immediately when she dropped off the bill and before payment was made. Absolutely fair.

We came here for a family dinner on a heavy snow night. We were welcomed by the manager and servers. They are nice and friendly. The portion of the Chinese cuisine is large and the price is reasonable.

Came here for late afternoon dim sum at 2:30PM on New Year's Day and was able to get seated for 4 people immediately. This place has happy hours, except for on holidays. Every dish we ordered was delicious and the portions were quite good. One thing to note was that the beef tripe was still frozen when they served it, but we informed the server and they reheated it for us. My favorites were the har gow and siu mai, they just did it so well and they were big. Also would recommend their chili oil which had black bean and was not spicy at all. Would highly recommend and come back. Would be interested in trying their dinner menu.
