About Gim's Chinese Kitchen

Welcome to Gim's Chinese Kitchen, a Chinese restaurant located at 2322 Lincoln Ave, Alameda, CA 94501, USA. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Gim's Chinese Kitchen serves the local community in Alameda and the wider East Bay area, primarily focusing on takeout services. They can be contacted at (510) 523-2400 or +1 510-523-2400.

Based on the limited customer reviews available, Gim's Chinese Kitchen presents a stark contrast in dining experiences. One reviewer expressed a highly positive opinion, stating that Gim's is their "favorite to-go restaurant in the whole of Bay Area," a significant endorsement. This customer particularly recommended the sweet and sour pork over rice as their favorite dish. They also noted that the lunch menu offers more affordable prices, suggesting that ordering during lunchtime could provide better value. An interesting addition mentioned is that Gim's now has "knick-knacks on the side available to purchase," indicating a potential offering of small retail items alongside their food. This positive reviewer expressed a strong intention to continue patronizing Gim's, referring to it as a "hidden gem in Alameda."

However, another customer shared a very negative experience, describing it as "the worst Chinese I've had." This reviewer recalled a time when the food was good "years ago," implying a decline in quality over time. A specific complaint was regarding the honey walnut prawns being served with peanuts, which they found unusual and undesirable. Furthermore, they described all of the food as "bland" and tasting predominantly of "salt," leading to significant disappointment. This negative experience was so severe that the reviewer reported throwing out $65 worth of food after trying everything, vowing not to return.

The extreme divergence in these two reviews makes it challenging to provide a balanced overall assessment of Gim's Chinese Kitchen. The positive review highlights the sweet and sour pork, affordability during lunch, and the presence of additional retail items, suggesting that some aspects of the restaurant are well-received. The negative review, however, raises serious concerns about the current food quality, unusual ingredient substitutions (peanuts with honey walnut prawns), and issues with blandness and excessive saltiness. This stark contrast could indicate inconsistency in food preparation or a difference in individual preferences and expectations.

The limited information does not offer any insights into the environment of Gim's Chinese Kitchen. Since both reviews primarily focus on takeout experiences, there is no mention of the dine-in ambiance or the overall atmosphere of the restaurant itself. It remains unknown whether Gim's Chinese Kitchen has a significant dining area or mainly operates as a takeout establishment.

Regarding services, the reviews indicate that takeout is a primary offering, with one reviewer explicitly mentioning it as their "favorite to-go restaurant." The other reviewer also seems to have ordered for takeout, given the large amount of food discarded. There is no information about whether Gim's Chinese Kitchen offers delivery services. The mention of a lunch menu suggests specific pricing or combinations available during lunchtime hours, potentially catering to the local weekday crowd.

The features of Gim's Chinese Kitchen, based on these contrasting reviews, are somewhat ambiguous. A potential strength is their sweet and sour pork, which is highly recommended by one customer. The affordability of the lunch menu could also be considered a positive feature. The introduction of "knick-knacks" for purchase is a unique aspect that might appeal to some customers. However, significant concerns exist regarding the bland and salty taste of some dishes and the unexpected inclusion of peanuts with honey walnut prawns, which could be a major drawback for others.

Currently, there is no specific information available regarding any promotional offers or special deals at Gim's Chinese Kitchen, beyond the mention of a cheaper lunch menu. Restaurants often have daily specials or other promotions, but these are not mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in potential discounts should contact the restaurant directly to inquire.

In summary, based on the limited and conflicting customer feedback, Gim's Chinese Kitchen in Alameda is a Chinese restaurant primarily serving takeout. It receives high praise from one customer for its sweet and sour pork and affordable lunch menu, along with the unique addition of retail items. However, another customer reported a very negative experience with bland and overly salty food, as well as an unusual ingredient substitution in the honey walnut prawns. Potential customers should be aware of these divergent opinions when considering ordering from Gim's Chinese Kitchen. To learn more about their current menu, services, and any potential promotions, it is advisable to contact the restaurant directly at (510) 523-2400 or +1 510-523-2400, or visit their location at 2322 Lincoln Ave in Alameda.

I could definitely say Gim’s is my favorite to-go restaurant in the whole of Bay Area and that says a lot!! Everything is really good but my favorite is the sweet & sour pork over rice. Lunch menu is cheaper so it’s better to order around that time. Now they have knick-knacks on the side available to purchase. Definitely will keep coming back to this hidden gem in Alameda! 😋👍🏼

This was the worst Chinese I’ve had. Years ago this place had good food. Honey walnut prawns were served with peanuts! Really? All of the food was bland and just tasted like salt. Very disappointed! I threw out $65 of food after trying everything.

I had picked up food here some years ago and remember food being good. Not today..I ordered the shrimp egg rolls that were just ok. I ordered the Mongolian Beef from the picture on the wall. Beef looking to be the main ingredient of Mongolian Beef right? With green onions slightly cooked with a light sauce. What I received was primarily over cooked onions (not green onions) and very small amount of beef. It looked like onion spaghetti!! It was disgusting. I went back to show them what they cooked for me. She said onion was main ingredient since beef is very expensive right now. Well…I paid $36 for egg rolls, a bad Mongolian beef dish and chicken friend rice that was bad also. They used the smallest cheapest parts of the chicken. A refund for the Mongolian Beef would have been nice. I ate part of chicken fried rice because I was so hungry and picked out the chicken for my cat to eat. I’m not a chef but I have cooked Chinese much better than this. Overpriced bad food. She did apologize and offered to fix the dish but I wasn’t going to wait another 30 minutes. Wish I hadn’t given them the $5 tip either. So for $41. lesson learned and want to save someone else from this place. I hope they get it together.

No Stars for this place. I ordered dinner for two and didn't receive the main course. When I called to inquire about it, I was yelled at and told there was no bbq pork with this menu. I will never go there again. I suggest you think twice before ordering.
