Based on customer reviews, Fu Jian Chinese Restaurant provides a standard takeout experience with generally well-received food. One customer noted a good portion size for the boneless spare ribs dinner combination, which included fried rice, and the lo mein chicken. They found the food to be decent and typical for takeout, specifically mentioning the tasty fried rice, although the spare ribs were described as quite dry.
However, another customer shared a less positive experience related to customer service during a delivery order. This customer, who was feeling unwell, mistakenly provided an incorrect address. While acknowledging their error and apologizing, they reported that the delivery driver was rude and berated them over the phone and upon arrival. This negative interaction significantly impacted their overall experience, leading them to express a reluctance to order from Fu Jian again and advising future customers to double-check their order details.
Regarding the practical aspects of visiting Fu Jian Chinese Restaurant for order pickup, it is important to note that street parking is the only option available at their West Main Street location. This might be a consideration for customers driving to collect their orders.
In summary, Fu Jian Chinese Restaurant offers a straightforward takeout service with a menu of familiar Chinese dishes. The food quality appears to be generally acceptable, with some dishes receiving positive feedback regarding taste and portion size. However, potential customers should be aware of the exclusive takeout service and the street parking situation. Additionally, the reported negative customer service experience highlights the importance of order accuracy and clear communication when interacting with the restaurant, particularly for delivery services.

Take out only. No dine in available. Placing the order through the phone. I ordered the boneless spare ribs dinner combination (came with fried rice) and lo mein chicken. Good portion size. The food was decent and pretty typical for takeouts. The spare ribs were quite dry but the fried rice was tasty. Street parking only.
Food was delicious, but I made an error when ordering and the driver was extremely rude & berated me over the phone. I ordered delivery because I was dangerously sick & couldn't really stay in the kitchen to cook due to an extreme fever, but when I placed my order Google accidentally filled in an address about a 4 minute drive from mine. The driver called me and asked if he had the right address. When I checked and then apologized at length for the issue, he began yelling- repeating "You gave me the wrong address! It's so far!" He also continued doing this when the order was dropped off. Quality of the meal was fine, but not worth the customer service. This was definitely also my fault to some extent and I feel terrible, but when you're ill and can barely walk without nearly blacking out you really don't want to deal with that kind of behavior. I don't plan on ordering from here again. If you do- double check everything, or you may have to deal with some attitude.
I was a loyal customer until today when they wanted to go back hours after I scheduled and paid for a delivery. Apparently they neglected to mention on the ordering page that there was an upcharge. I went back to double check and nope.... No mention of it. So in essence they charged my credit card again (which is illegal) for what was their mistake. when I called them on it they cancelled the entire order. Thieves. I will never order from them again.
Didn’t even get to order. Left because service from young girl was bad. She wasn’t rude. I asked for any 2 thing off the menu. I’m new to the area and wanted to try anything. Maybe that’s annoying request but she was too overwhelmed by that and left then when she came back just kept asking me what I wanted and I said whatever your popular dish is. After some back and forth I just left. They seemed to be working very hard and are stressed. I’d like to see them do better but maybe they’re just burnt out.
Let me start by saying if i could give a zero star rating, I would. Yesterday night I ordered a general tso chicken combo with plain lo mein like I always do from this location. However yesterday, I guess they were in a silly goofy mood because when I got home, I started eating my food and the third bite i took had a little crunchy texture to it . If 1+1=2 , why is my lo mein and chicken crunchy ? I spit out my food and I see that there’s a whole entire finger nail in my food. I called the store and explained to them the situation and they denied all claims of a finger nail being in my food ; how can they tell me what i did or did not have in my food as if they ate it ? They told me I could bring it back and they would make me a new one . Why would I want another bowl of food after I just found a nail in my first combo ? So I told them that I could bring the food back but I wanted a refund. The receptionist continuously told me to hold on while she spoke to the cooks (which were yelling in the background) and she returns back to the call and tells me to come to the store with the food and I’ll get a refund. When I get there , there are about 5 cooks in the back and the receptionist and they all look at me because obviously I was the young lady that called and I had a bag in my hand. The receptionist opens up the container and examines the food and an older lady and man come from the back and they’re looking at the food and they pause and say : “Where’s the nail?” . If i took a bite of my food and spat it out because there was something in it , why would I place the object back into the food ? Good thing i took a picture though so I showed it to them. I swear to god the moment I showed them they started screaming in my face and throwing their arms in my face as well. The receptionist then says “No that’s not true that’s not us. We thought it was a piece of a finger nail not the whole thing. That’s not possible.” So then I proceed to tell them that I don’t care if it was a quarter , an eighth or a half of a nail. There was a nail in my food and since I was told i’d get a refund if i brought it back , that’s what i’m expecting and i don’t care to argue. From that moment on the older man screamed and said “NO YOURE NOT GETTING A REFUND” and they both proceeded to yell at me for about 5-7 minutes but I couldn’t really react because they weren’t speaking in a language that I understood. Obviously by their mannerisms, volume, and tone which they were speaking at … it was apparent that they were saying some not so nice things. At the end of the day I’m a college student in Richmond by myself so I’m not going to argue with randoms at a restaurant so i told them I’m going to call the cops and the man got in my face and said “CALL THE COPS” so that’s what I proceeded to do until the receptionist came and asked me what I ordered and mentioned that she would void the transaction. Overall their food is good but because of the way I was treated and the attitude they gave me despite them being a business, i would NEVER go there again. Their behavior was disgusting and you’d never think something like this would happen to you until it does ! And for that , you guys get zero stars in my books. I was a returning customer that has been there multiple times and at that, the container was full when i brought it back. You guys should be ASHAMED of yourselves.
