About Fortune Cookie Chinese Food
Fortune Cookie Chinese Food, located at 38509 Fremont Blvd in Fremont, California, is a Chinese Restaurant that has received contrasting feedback from its customers. While some reviewers have lauded its fresh and delicious food, particularly highlighting specific dishes and generous portions, others have reported significant negative experiences concerning food quality and customer service. This mixed reception suggests a degree of inconsistency in the overall dining experience at this establishment.
One reviewer, who was a first-time customer relying on Yelp reviews that praised the walnut shrimp and house fried rice special, had a profoundly negative encounter. Upon calling to place a pickup order and asking a couple of questions about the meals, the reviewer was met with abrupt and rude customer service. The person on the phone allegedly told them, "it should not take you 5 minutes to place an order" before hanging up. Despite this off-putting interaction, the customer proceeded to pick up their order, which they described as "the most foul Chinese food I’ve had in recent years." The shrimp in the walnut shrimp and the house fried rice was deemed far from fresh, tasting and smelling fishy. The reviewer noted that the beef in the rice was decent but ultimately advised others to "save your money," as they had to discard over $30 worth of food and would have preferred a meal from a chain like Panda Express. This review raises serious concerns about the freshness of seafood and the professionalism of the phone service.
In stark contrast, another reviewer who recently relocated to Fremont and discovered Fortune Cookie Chinese Food about three months prior to their review had a completely different experience. This customer described the restaurant as a "whole in the wall" and expressed immense satisfaction, stating that they "loved it." Having tried another Chinese restaurant in Fremont that did not impress them, they were highly pleased with Fortune Cookie. They found the food to be "fresh, VERY DELICIOUS and affordable," and also emphasized that "the portions are big!!!" This overwhelmingly positive feedback highlights the potential for a very satisfying meal, with fresh ingredients, great taste, reasonable prices, and generous servings.
Interestingly, the first negative reviewer made a point to mention that the boba shop connected to Fortune Cookie Chinese Food is "so cute and the drinks are so good," highly recommending it. They even gave the overall establishment two stars solely for the tea shop, indicating a positive aspect associated with the location, albeit separate from the Chinese food itself. This suggests that the location might house two distinct businesses or that the ownership has diversified its offerings.
The significant divergence in the food experiences reported by these two reviewers makes it difficult to provide a definitive assessment of Fortune Cookie Chinese Food. It is possible that the quality of food preparation varies, or that there are inconsistencies in the freshness of ingredients depending on the day or the dish ordered. The positive review specifically praises the freshness, deliciousness, and portion sizes, while the negative review strongly contradicts these points, particularly concerning the seafood.
Information regarding the environment of Fortune Cookie Chinese Food as a Chinese Restaurant is limited to the fact that it is described as a "whole in the wall" by one reviewer, which typically implies a small, unassuming, and perhaps less outwardly impressive establishment that often surprises with the quality of its food. The connection to a "cute" boba shop might suggest a casual and perhaps somewhat unique setting.
Details about the services offered are primarily gleaned from the reviews. It is evident that they offer takeout, as one reviewer called to place an order for pickup. The mention of a negative phone interaction suggests that customer service during the ordering process may be inconsistent. The positive reviewer who "happened to come across" the restaurant likely experienced dine-in or takeout service as well, though this is not explicitly stated. There is no mention of delivery services.
Features of Fortune Cookie Chinese Food seem to include its potential for fresh and delicious food (according to one reviewer), particularly the walnut shrimp and house fried rice (based on Yelp reviews that influenced one customer), as well as large portion sizes and affordability. However, the feature of potentially poor food quality, especially concerning seafood, and unprofessional phone service are also indicated by another reviewer.
No promotional information, such as discounts or specials, is mentioned in the provided reviews. Local users interested in such details would need to contact the restaurant directly at (510) 818-9098 or +1 510-818-9098 or check if they have any online presence (website, social media) where promotions might be advertised.
In conclusion, Fortune Cookie Chinese Food in Fremont presents a complex picture. While one customer found it to be a hidden gem with fresh, delicious, and affordable food with large portions, another had a severely negative experience with stale-tasting seafood and rude phone service. The positive association with a well-regarded boba shop at the same location is an interesting point. Local users considering Fortune Cookie Chinese Food should be aware of these contrasting experiences. If the positive aspects of fresh food and generous portions appeal to you, it might be worth trying, perhaps focusing on the dishes that have received positive mentions. However, the negative review regarding food quality and service should also be taken into consideration. As with any restaurant with mixed reviews, individual experiences can vary.

Customer Reviews
It wasn’t first time ordering here and Yelp showed good reviews especially for their walnut shrimp and house fried rice special. They are located walking distance from me so I decided to give them a try. I called to place the order before picking up and had a couple of questions about the meals and how they come etc. again I have never been here I’m going off the information I can find on Yelp. I’m not sure who I spoke to but they said “ it should not take you 5 minutes to place an order” then -click- they hung up on my face. That should have been my sign not to pick up my order but I walked several blocks to pick up the most foul Chinese food I’ve had in recent years. The shrimp was far from fresh, it tasted and smelled fishy. The house rice also had the shrimp in it so it made it hard to eat because that also smelled and tasted fishy. The beef in the rice was decent but please save your money. I had to throw away $30+ worth of food. I would rather find a Panda Express. On a lighter note the boba shop this is connected to is so cute and the drinks are so good. I’d highly recommend them. I gave them two stars for the tea shop, I discovered it because of their food.
We recently relocated last May to Fremont and happened to come across this whole in the wall Chinese restaurant about 3 months ago and we loved it. We tried another Chinese restaurant in Fremont awhile back and we were not impressed. Today my husband suggested we get Chinese food and we headed on over. OMG this little hidden gem is worth every penny because their food is fresh, VERY DELICIOUS and affordable. I also want to add that the portions are big!!! Love love love this yummyness 🤤😋
I ordered Mongolian chicken from here and other dishes often. Recently they cook their meat half rare. Today I ordered Mongolian chicken and yes, the chicken was half cooked. I took it back and requested them to cook more. The gentleman looked very angry. He took it for cooking and brought it back in few minutes. I checked and it was same as before. I tasted and had to throw away my entire lunch. Chicken was still raw. Not going back to this place anymore.
I ordered Mongolian tofu with chowmein and it was soooo good! The service was also good! Would definitely recommend to others and this place will be the place I order chinese food from now on!
Ordered 3 items. One rice plate with chow mein replacing rice. Got home and NO chowmein. Not worth 20 minute drive to go back. CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE LEAVING. However we still love this place as food is plentiful and favorable.
