About Fortune Buffet
Welcome to Fortune Buffet, your local Chinese restaurant situated at 6000 NE Antioch Rd, Gladstone, MO 64119, USA. As a part of the Chinese Restaurant category, Fortune Buffet offers an all-you-can-eat buffet experience for the Gladstone community and surrounding areas. This format allows diners to sample a wide variety of Chinese cuisine, potentially making it an attractive option for families or groups with diverse preferences. While the primary service model is a buffet, it's worth noting that some buffet-style restaurants may also offer takeout options for individual dishes or family meals. To confirm if takeout is available at Fortune Buffet, local users can contact them directly at (816) 832-8168 or +1 816-832-8168.
The environment at Fortune Buffet is implied to be that of a typical buffet restaurant, likely featuring a spacious dining area with various stations housing different food selections. One reviewer mentioned that the restaurant was clean, which is a positive aspect regarding the dining environment. However, there are no further descriptions of the décor, ambiance, or seating arrangements provided in the available reviews. Customers can generally expect a functional and family-friendly setting conducive to the buffet dining experience.
Fortune Buffet's primary service is the buffet itself, allowing customers to serve themselves from a wide array of dishes. One review mentions a "crab leg buffet" offered between 3 pm and 9 pm, suggesting that seafood, particularly crab legs, may be a featured item during certain hours. However, the reviewer who tried the crab legs found them to be "disappointing." Another aspect of service mentioned is the handling of coupons. One customer received a coupon in the mail but was not allowed to use it as it had expired by a couple of weeks, indicating a strict adherence to coupon expiration dates. This is a point for local users to be aware of when considering any promotional offers.
A key feature of Fortune Buffet is the variety of dishes available in their buffet spread. However, the customer reviews present a concerning picture regarding the quality and freshness of the food. One reviewer described the food as "simply awful," stating that multiple dishes, including shrimp and various chicken preparations, tasted dry and chewy, as if they were several days old. The white rice was described as "so old that it was crunchy," and the advertised "crab meat" was identified as cheap and inedible imitation. This overwhelmingly negative experience suggests significant issues with food quality and freshness during the time of this particular visit (around 5:22 pm). The reviewer did note that the rangoon and fried items were "decent" but still considered the overall meal the worst they had ever had at a restaurant. Interestingly, this reviewer also mentioned that new, steaming food was being brought out as they were leaving, suggesting that the food quality might improve later in the evening (around 6 pm or after).
The second review also had a mixed experience. While they found the food to be "overall ok" and noted that the hot and sour soup was "not bad," the disappointment with the crab legs was a significant negative. This suggests that while some standard buffet fare might be acceptable, certain featured items may not meet expectations. The fact that the restaurant was not very busy ("only a few other couples were seated") during this visit (time not specified) does not seem to have positively impacted the food quality, particularly the crab legs. The reviewer also mentioned the cleanliness of the restaurant as a positive aspect but stated they would not be returning due to their overall experience.
Regarding promotional information, one reviewer mentioned receiving a coupon in the mail (via Valpak) for $2 off the crab leg buffet. This indicates that Fortune Buffet does engage in promotional activities, likely through local mailers or similar channels. However, the negative experience with the expired coupon suggests that customers should pay close attention to the validity dates of any offers they receive and be aware that the restaurant may not honor expired coupons. To stay informed about current promotions, local users should look out for mailers, check local coupon websites or publications, or inquire directly with the restaurant at (816) 832-8168 or +1 816-832-8168.
In conclusion, Fortune Buffet in Gladstone, MO, offers a Chinese buffet experience with a wide variety of dishes. However, the available customer reviews raise significant concerns about the food quality and freshness, particularly during at least one early evening visit. While one reviewer found the rangoon and fried items decent and noted that fresher food appeared to be coming out later, another found the crab legs disappointing and the overall food just "ok." The restaurant is noted to be clean, and they do engage in promotional activities like sending out coupons. However, their adherence to coupon expiration dates seems strict. For local users considering Fortune Buffet, it's advisable to be aware of the reported inconsistencies in food quality and perhaps consider visiting later in the evening based on one customer's observation. To get the most accurate information about their current menu, hours, and any ongoing promotions, contacting the restaurant directly is recommended. Given the strongly negative feedback regarding food quality during one visit, potential customers may want to proceed with caution or seek more recent reviews before deciding to dine here.

Customer Reviews
The food was simply awful. I tried a little of a lot thinking something might be ok. We came at 522pm so I'm hoping thats why the food was dry and chewy!! I dont know how you ruin shrimp but it tasted like 4 day old left out to dry and honestly so did all the variety of chicken dishes!! I wanted so badly to enjoy something!! My daughter loves white rice and it was so old that it was crunchy. The crab meat as advertised was actually cheap imitation and inedible. I gave back every plate... Rangoon decent and fried decent but honestly the worst food I've ever had at a restaurant. Redeeming part is that as we were leaving they were bringing steaming food out so maybe don't go there until around 6pm!
I have not been here since this was MaMa's buffet. Received a coupon in the mail (valpak) for $2 off ($17.99) the $19.99 crab leg buffet (3pm-9pm). It had expired by a couple of weeks, and they would not budge on us using it. The crab legs were disappointing, and the food was overall ok - hot n sour soup was not bad. Overall, it was clean, and only a few other couples were seated. Did not use the restrooms. Will not be returning.
Tried this newly opened buffet today! Food is amazing. Our family love the crab and crawfish so much! The seasoning is delicious. I love the hibachi as well. Very clean and food is very fresh. Will definitely be back again.
Went on a week day at 6pm thinking it would be better for the time. Food was just ok and very low on lots of things that they never refilled. There was a lot of seafood options put just didn't care for the food. Prob would not come back. Over all just ok would try somewhere buffets in town.
If you're reading this review and you remember the good old days of when this location was called "Mama's buffet" then you are in for extreme disappointment if you come here. This location has been rebranded and changed owners a few times since then and every time it gets worse. I gave it one last chance recently and was actually appalled at how bad it was. The chicken was tough and hard to eat with no flavor, service was sluggish and it was a pain to even get our ticket to leave, the buffet has a ton of confusing options on it... It's almost as if this place has an identity crisis. I'd highly recommend you avoid it at all costs, and I don't say that often.
