About Formosa Restaurant

Welcome to Formosa Restaurant, your local Chinese restaurant situated at 5425 TN-153 in Hixson, Tennessee (37343, USA). As a Chinese restaurant within the platform category, Formosa Restaurant aims to serve Chinese cuisine to the local community. You can reach them at (423) 875-6953 or their mobile number +1 423-875-6953 for inquiries or to place an order.

Based on recent online customer reviews, experiences at Formosa Restaurant appear to be varied, particularly regarding the authenticity of the food and the handling of order issues. It's important for local users to consider these perspectives when deciding whether to dine at or order from Formosa Restaurant.

One reviewer, identifying as a "very traditional" Chinese individual, expressed that they would not categorize the food at Formosa Restaurant as truly "Chinese." While they did not find the food to be bad, they described it as being more in the style of "American style Chinese food," drawing a comparison to the often sweeter flavors found at Panda Express, which they personally do not prefer. This suggests that Formosa Restaurant might cater to a palate accustomed to a more Westernized interpretation of Chinese cuisine, which might differ significantly from authentic, traditional Chinese flavors.

Another reviewer commented positively on the service, describing it as "good." However, this reviewer also speculated that the perceived lack of truly authentic Chinese food might be due to a limited presence of Chinese immigrants or second-generation individuals in Tennessee to operate such a restaurant. This comment reinforces the idea that Formosa Restaurant's cuisine might be adapted to local tastes rather than strictly adhering to traditional Chinese recipes and flavor profiles.

A more concerning review detailed an instance of receiving an incorrect order. The customer reported ordering "Wonderful Beef" (item 605 on their receipt) but receiving a dish containing broccoli, carrots, baby corn, and cabbage. Upon contacting the restaurant to inform them of the error, the customer was told that they were incorrect and that the restaurant's menu stated that their order should include "all mixed vegetables." The customer even provided a screenshot of the menu description from the restaurant's website and a picture of the dish they received as evidence. Unfortunately, the customer stated that the person they spoke with at the restaurant insisted they were looking at the wrong item and offered no assistance in resolving the issue. Notably, this reviewer mentioned that their order of Mongolian beef was correct. This incident raises concerns about order accuracy and the restaurant's approach to customer service when order discrepancies occur.

Considering these reviews, it appears that Formosa Restaurant offers "American style Chinese food," which might be sweeter and less traditional in flavor compared to authentic Chinese cuisine. While the service was described as good by one reviewer, another experienced significant issues with an incorrect order and a lack of resolution from the restaurant staff. The consistency and accuracy of orders, as well as the restaurant's handling of mistakes, seem to be areas where experiences can vary.

Information regarding the environment of Formosa Restaurant is not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews. Typically, Chinese restaurants aim to create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere for their diners. This can range from simple and functional to more elaborately decorated spaces with Chinese cultural motifs. Without specific descriptions from the reviews, local users might need to visit the location to form their own impression of the restaurant's ambiance and decor.

In terms of services, Formosa Restaurant likely offers both dine-in and takeout options, given that customers placed and received orders. The negative review involved a takeout order. To confirm if they offer delivery services, catering, or have specific hours for dine-in and takeout, it would be best to contact the restaurant directly at the provided phone numbers. Understanding their full service offerings will help local users plan their orders or visits according to their needs.

Features of Formosa Restaurant, based on the available feedback, include a menu that leans towards "American style Chinese food," which may be characterized by sweeter flavors. They offer dishes like "Wonderful Beef" and "Mongolian beef," as mentioned in the incorrect order review. To gain a comprehensive understanding of their menu, local users should inquire about the full range of dishes they offer, including appetizers, soups, various meat, poultry, and seafood entrees, as well as rice and noodle dishes. Knowing the variety and specific preparations will help customers decide if their culinary style aligns with their preferences for Chinese cuisine.

Currently, there is no information about any specific promotions offered by Formosa Restaurant in the provided reviews. Chinese restaurants frequently have lunch specials, combination meals, or discounts for certain order sizes or types. Local users interested in potential deals or special offers should contact the restaurant directly or check local online platforms or social media pages where Formosa Restaurant might advertise any promotions. Asking about current specials when placing an order or visiting the restaurant is always a good way to potentially save money on their meal.

In conclusion, Formosa Restaurant in Hixson, TN, serves "American style Chinese food," which may be sweeter and less traditional than authentic Chinese cuisine. While one reviewer found the service to be good, another experienced issues with an incorrect order and unsatisfactory customer service in resolving the problem. Local users who prefer a Westernized version of Chinese food might find Formosa Restaurant appealing. However, those seeking a more traditional Chinese culinary experience might be less satisfied. It is recommended that potential customers consider these points and perhaps inquire about specific dishes or the restaurant's approach to food preparation when contacting them at (423) 875-6953 or +1 423-875-6953. Inquiring about their menu and any current promotions is also advisable.

As a very "traditional" Chinese, I really cannot call this "Chinese food". The foods are not bad but just not "Chinese". They are more like this "American style Chinese foods" as what you will expect from panda express which I don't really like since they are too sweet. Service was good, but I guess TN just don't have enough Chinese immigrants or second gens to run a real Chinese food restaurant.

Received the incorrect order. Called to let the restaurant know. They told me I was incorrect and their menu states I should have all mixed vegetables in my order. Here is a screenshot of the menu description from their website, here is a screenshot of my receipt showing my order of 605. Wonderful Beef and a picture of my dish containing broccoli, carrots, baby corn and cabbage. Unfortunately the gentleman I spoke to at the restaurant let me know I was looking at the wrong item and he could not assist. The Mongolian beef was correct.

I have been eating at this restaurant for many years, but I haven’t eaten it in a couple of years until yesterday. The wonton soup was like mushy cornbread, and was a weird mustard yellow color. We assumed the odd consistency, color, and taste We’re due to the maid on Wednesday or get rid of by Wednesday sticker on my container. Mind you, this is a Saturday evening when I had the order delivered. The lo mein tasted just like burnt oil, nothing else… Just burnt oil. Everything else was just fried completely out of flavor.

The garlic sauce bean curd was scrumptious. Hot mustard made me tear up but was very appreciated.

Went there for lunch yesterday and except for the very cold temperature, which made me uncomfortable, I liked it. Ordered #31 Mandarin Combination, which came with fried rice and a soup, I chose Wonton. I also ordered an egg roll, which was quite big. They give you chips and a salsa to begin. Nice place to take your girlfriend for dinner. With a soda, which they refill, it was only ?15.84 including tax. That's a reasonable price. The fried rice is a little plain but overall the food was very good and I will return.
