About Forbidden City Chinese Restaurant

Welcome to Forbidden City Chinese Restaurant, a local establishment nestled at 4024 Bay Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603, USA. As a distinguished Chinese Restaurant in the Saginaw area, Forbidden City offers a diverse culinary experience, bringing the rich and authentic flavors of China to your table. Whether you're a long-time enthusiast of Chinese cuisine or looking to explore new tastes, Forbidden City provides a welcoming atmosphere and a menu brimming with delectable options.

For those seeking a traditional dine-in experience, Forbidden City offers a comfortable and relaxed setting. Recent feedback indicates a spacious dining area with ample seating, making it a suitable choice for individuals, couples, and small groups. While one review noted that the restaurant was not particularly busy on a Sunday afternoon, this could translate to a more tranquil and personalized dining experience for patrons. The availability of dine-in service allows you to savor your meal fresh from the kitchen, enjoying the ambiance of the restaurant.

The service at Forbidden City has garnered positive remarks, with one customer specifically highlighting "excellent service" and a friendly server. Attentive service can significantly enhance your dining experience, ensuring your needs are met and your meal is enjoyable. While another review mentioned that food service was "a little slow," this could vary depending on the time of day and the complexity of the dishes ordered. It's always recommended to factor in potential wait times, especially during peak hours.

The menu at Forbidden City Chinese Restaurant appears to offer a range of classic and popular Chinese dishes. Based on customer feedback, the Egg Drop Soup stands out as a highly recommended item. One reviewer described it as "some of the best I’ve had in years," praising its real broth, fresh vegetables, and tender egg, distinguishing it from thicker, artificially colored versions. This positive feedback suggests a commitment to quality ingredients and authentic preparation for this beloved soup.

Other menu items mentioned in the reviews provide a glimpse into the variety available. The Sizzling Rice Soup was described as "good," indicating a satisfying starter option. Egg Rolls and Crab Cheese also received positive feedback, suggesting they are well-prepared and flavorful appetizers. However, it's important to note some mixed reviews as well. The Fried Wontons were criticized for a potentially off-flavor in the meat and a taste of old frying oil. Similarly, the Spring Rolls were described as "too greasy." These comments highlight the importance of consistency in food preparation.

Moving on to the main courses, the General Tso Chicken was noted as "pretty good," although the portion size was described as "small." General Tso's Chicken is a popular dish, and a positive review suggests it might be a worthwhile order, keeping in mind the portion size. The Moo Shui Chicken received an "ok" rating and was also noted to have a "small portion." Moo Shui dishes offer a customizable experience with pancakes and various fillings, and while it was deemed acceptable, the portion size might be a consideration for some diners.

Condiments play a role in the overall Chinese dining experience, and the Hot Mustard at Forbidden City was described as "super potent," which could be a plus for those who enjoy a strong kick. The Hoisin sauce, often used as a dip or in dishes like Moo Shui, was rated as "pretty good."

While the online reviews offer valuable insights, it's important to remember that individual experiences can vary. The positive feedback regarding the Egg Drop Soup and the friendly service suggests areas of strength for Forbidden City. The mixed reviews on certain fried items and portion sizes provide areas where potential customers might have varied expectations.

Excellent service and food. I love egg drop soup, and it was some of the best I’ve had in years. Not that thick paste that has food coloring but real broth with fresh vegetables and tender egg. Very excited to come back in the future.

It’s nice to be able to dine in at a Chinese restaurant. We were a partyof three on a Sunday afternoon. The restaurant was not at all busy - lots of available tables. Our server was friendly. Food service was a little slow. Here is our commentary by menu selection: Sizzling Rice Soup - good Egg Rolls - ok Crab Cheese - good Fried Wontons - the meat had a bad flavor and the wontons tasted like they were fried in old oil. Spring Rolls - too greasy General Tso Chicken - pretty good, small portion Moo Shui Chicken - ok, small portion Hot Mustard - super potent Hoisin - pretty good

Very relaxing and a nice fine dining Chinese food experience! Our waitress had eagle ears and never missed a single question or request we had. Very accommodating for special requests, large portions for a reasonable price, and everything was perfectly prepared. Also, they have an amazing wall of live plants on a divider in the dining room, and they were so cool, we had to wonder if they were real! And they were real! Just another sign of the care they put into everything there. 😊

Been coming here for my whole life. My favorite Chinese restaurant in the whole state. Get the Mongolian beef and sizzling rice soup and you will be very happy! Ginger beef is also very good. Not a bad thing on the menu!

VERY SAD. Been going here 27 years with family. After some longtime suspicion, we we’re able to finally confirm they have been cheating customers. SPECIFICALLY all breaded and deep fried items have a microscopic amount of meat. As 98% that each piece is breading. This is dishonest and wrong. If you cannot afford to give us the food that we’re paying for, then you need to shut down. We all see you now. As compared to The Panda House, of which we have gone to for 27 years. PANDA HOUSE has 75% meat and 25% max breading on all deep fried food. Be honest with your food, remodel your very tired restaurant, and you’ll be surprised how much the community WILL respond in a positive way.
