About Focus BBQ
Focus BBQ, located at 18558 Gale Ave #272 in the City of Industry, California, presents itself as a Chinese restaurant specializing in rooftop barbecue with a flavor profile reminiscent of northeast China. This establishment offers a variety of skewered meats and a rooftop outdoor seating area. However, based on recent customer reviews, the experience at Focus BBQ appears to be somewhat inconsistent, with opinions ranging from highly negative to positive.
One customer, who had been intrigued by the barbecue aroma while visiting the plaza for dessert, finally decided to try Focus BBQ but reported a significantly negative experience. This reviewer stated they were "absolutely horrified" by the food, especially in comparison to other skewer places they had visited recently. A major concern was the texture of the food, which was described as "slightly wet or sticky," a characteristic they considered a negative indicator. The lack of a wait time for entry, in contrast to other establishments in the area with hour-long waits, was also noted, perhaps hinting at a lack of popularity or potentially lower demand.
The quality and flavoring of the food were significant points of criticism for this reviewer. They found the flavoring to be "just strange," suggesting it did not meet their expectations for barbecue or skewer dishes. The "biggest disappointment" was the lean meat skewer, which they described as looking like "someone's leftovers," finding it "revolting." Even the lamb skewer, which was intended to be a highlight, was only deemed "palatable at best." Based on this experience, the reviewer strongly advised others to "skip this location," indicating a high level of dissatisfaction.
In contrast, another reviewer offered a more positive perspective, describing Focus BBQ as a "roof top BBQ, close to the northeast Chinese BBQ flavor profile." This suggests that the restaurant aims to provide a specific regional style of Chinese barbecue, which may appeal to those familiar with or seeking this particular taste. This reviewer also mentioned that the store brought them back to China due to the authenticity of the flavor, indicating a potential strength for those who appreciate genuine northeast Chinese cuisine.
This positive review highlighted the wide selection of meats available, including common options like beef, lamb, and chicken, as well as more adventurous choices such as intestines, livers, and gizzards for those inclined to try them. This variety in the menu could be a significant draw for customers looking for a diverse barbecue experience with different types of skewered meats.
Regarding the environment, the second reviewer noted the presence of a "nice roof top outdoor seating area," which could be an appealing feature, especially in pleasant weather. However, they also pointed out that the location is close to the freeway, resulting in a somewhat noisy atmosphere. This is an important consideration for customers who prefer a quieter dining experience. Despite the noise, the reviewer concluded that Focus BBQ is "a great place to have some BBQ, some beer and chitchat with friends," suggesting that the overall ambiance and the social aspect of the dining experience can outweigh the noise factor for some.
Considering these contrasting reviews, it appears that the experience at Focus BBQ can be quite subjective. One customer had a thoroughly negative encounter with the food quality and texture, while another praised the authentic northeast Chinese flavors and the variety of meats offered. The rooftop seating is a noted feature, though the proximity to the freeway introduces noise as an environmental factor.
For local users in the City of Industry and surrounding areas, Focus BBQ presents an interesting option if they are specifically seeking northeast Chinese-style barbecue skewers and are open to a rooftop dining experience. The potential for authentic flavors and a wide selection of meats could be a significant draw. However, it is also important to be aware of the negative feedback regarding food quality and texture from at least one reviewer. The noisy environment due to freeway proximity is another factor to consider when choosing to dine here.
Without further information on promotional offers or additional aspects of service, the introduction must rely solely on the provided customer reviews. These reviews suggest that while Focus BBQ aims to provide a specific regional barbecue experience with a variety of options and a unique rooftop setting, the execution and quality of the food may not be consistently satisfactory for all customers. Potential diners might want to weigh the positive aspects of flavor authenticity and meat selection against the reported issues with food texture and overall quality, as well as the environmental factor of freeway noise.

Given the mixed feedback, it might be beneficial to have personal preferences for northeast Chinese BBQ and a tolerance for a potentially noisy environment when considering a visit.

Had always wanted to try this but never did since I usually came to this plaza for dessert and ended up smelling the bbq aroma. Finally did and was absolutely horrified by what I got. After coming from eating different skewer places in the past month, this place by far earns the place of never again. Everything was slightly wet or sticky which is already a big tell. There was virtually no wait to enter, given that all other places have about an hour or so wait, and the food that came out was just horrid. The flavoring was just strange and the biggest disappointment was the lean meat skewer. When my food comes out looking like it's someone's leftovers, it kinda is revolting. The *best" skewer we ordered was the lamb, which was palatable at best. Highly would advise people to skip this location.
Focus BBQ is a roof top BBQ, close to the northeast Chinese BBQ flavor profile. The store just brings me back to China, the flavor is on the spot. You have a wide selection of meats, like beef, lamp, chicken, along with some internals like intestines, livers, gizzards etc, if you are down to try. There is a nice roof top outdoor seating area, but it is close to freeway, so it is a bit noisy. Overall, it is a great place to have some BBQ, some beer and chitchat with friends.
There’s not many establishments that are open till 2AM, but when I found Focus BBQ here in the City of Industry, I’ve been coming here almost 3 times a week. Do you have a great selection of food with a decent selection of greens as well. Customer service is impeccable and very attentive. Grateful for what they offer and hope anyone nearby to check them out to experience what I have. You will not be disappointed. And I dare you to try the fried milk! It is something you would definitely need to experience…
Love the environment. We can eat in the outside, on the roof. The lamb skewers and pork belly with needle mushroom are excellent. The leek and Mala Tang are oily. Overall it's a good experience.
It took awhile for all the skewers to be delivered. It came one by one. The lean beef skewers barely had any meat on it. I’d say it’s less than a bite size. Overall flavor is pretty good.
